who was it that recommended this guy?  i have downloaded every song on his site and have been enjoying them thoroughly for a month or two, thanks!!!!

http://www.jeffreyfoucault.com/music.html

also mini-touring

http://www.jeffreyfoucault.com/tour.html

this song from 2001, miles from the lightning, i am finding it particularly awesome:

secretariat

I need a woman with a heart like Secretariat
To outrun my lonesome ways
I'm going to take this extra rib I've got
I'm going to bury it down in the dust
She does not raise

I need a woman with eyes like Rodin
To see the body caught within the stone
I'm going to take this bronze star heart
I've got I'm going to melt it down
Wait for love to cast the metal into bone

Because I'm the blue eyed son of a hurricane
I'll twirl you so sweetly around
But be careful you know, Atlanta
Never looked the same
After she burned to the ground
After she burned down

I need a woman with a heel like Achilles
So I know there's always one way I can win
Love is patient, love is kind, but let's be honest
Love is a catalogue of deadly sins

I need a woman
I need a woman

I need a woman with a chin like ol' Joe Frazier
To stand inside when I am swinging at the wind
Let's you and me take the gloves off darlin
I'll tell you exactly where I've been

Because I'm the blue eyed son of hurricane
I'll twirl you so sweetly around
But be careful you know, Atlanta
Never looked the same
After she burned to the ground
After she burned down

I need a woman with hands like John Henry
Hard enough to break the rocks down into sand
And when we died we'd lay down side by side
With our hammers in our hands

I need a woman with a heart like Secretariat
To outrun my lonesome ways
I'm going to take this extra rib I've got
I'm going to bury it down in the dust
She does not raise
in the dust
She does not raise

I need a woman
I need a woman
I need a woman
I need a woman

I need a woman like I need a hole in my head....

For those that are interested, Searching for the Wrong Eyed Jesus was
recommended by the Library Journal in it's May 15th issue. If you have
a patron friendly library near you, put in your request. The more that
request it the more likely the library will purchase it. In my
opinion, what library's collection would be complete without it? Just
some food for thought.

hello
have you checked out the 16 horsepower forum at
16horsepower.com? Search for tabs, there are a bunch
on there

I've been meaning to at least give you the chords, but
haven't had the time. Hopefully soon

Praying Arm Lane (from memory)
The chords are Eb Cm and Bb. The bridge is Eb and Dm
(i think)

That being said DEE rarely plays in standard tuning,
and when he does play in standard it sounds to my ears
that he is tuned a whole step lower.
(if you are tuned a whole step down try F Dm and C,
this way you can make the fills between the chords
sound right) The bridge is F and Em

Also try hutterite mile a whole step down.
Am Dm and G
or in standard tuning
Gm Cm and F

Cheers
Ryan

I don't know who you'd talk to.. but I'd love to hear
what you find out!
I know he uses the church modes, and is inspired by
the music that they were commonly used in (IE: middle
ages and the renaissance).
He is pretty unconventional, but it'd be interesting
what a scholar might pick out.
"Liquid phrasing" i like that!

Did you guys find any of the tabs?
I'm not very good at converting music to tab by ear. And since its
incredibly hard to find tabs for 16 hp out on the net ( apart from
neck on the new blade, blessed persistence and black bush).

Any tabs would be appreciated...

I'm glad you pointed that out, that is a very good point.  I'm also wanting VERITAS (Truth) on my right arm  DIVINUS (Divine) on my left both on the inside of my lower arms just below the "bend".  I've kicked around the idea of SOLI DEO GLORIA (to GOD alone the glory)  I haven't decided on what I will get next.  I would really like to get a tattoo with some religious significance, I became a Christian a couple years ago.  I only have seven tattoos right now, but that's seven too many for my husband, so I'm not sure that I'll convince him to let me get another.....we'll see.

I didn't realize which artwork we were talking about, I'm an idiot.  I have the skull bandoneon tattoo, not the olden cover.  I  was going to get the olden cover as well but decided not to after a lenghty conversation with my artist.  The reason that it won't make a good tatto in my opinion is because even if it is tattooed perfect by the artist it will probably still look like a bad tatoo because of the sketchy look of the original work.  Uneven and wavy lines look great on as artwork on a CD, but as a tattoo it will probably look like a home done project.  To make it right you would have to "fix" it by rounding out the horseshoe and making it all symetrical which kind of takes away the whole appeal for me.

The other tattoo I was considering was the original artwork from 16HP homemade cassette that was available for viewing on the sixteenhorsepower.net website before the band adopted it as the official site, but abandonded it for the same reason.

The shows at small venues in the Milwaukee area are usually pretty
civilized, some requesting no smoking and or silence while the
artist performs and the audience seems to respect these requests.
(Shank Hall). However in the large venues this does not seem to be
the case (The Rave). At a performance last week by Les Claypool with
Rasputina as the first act the club owner had a metal band
performing in the bar area while Rasputina performed causing noise
carry over into the performance. I thought this was very crude on
the owners part and unacceptable. I remember reading a story about
how the Stranglers used to handle hecklers back in the 80's. After
being doused by a cup of beer from someone in the audience the band
invited the culprit on to the stage. After a man climbed onto the
stage the band overpowered him and proceeded to remove his pants
shoving a stalk of celery up his anus, he proceeded to stumble about
the stage in shock. The story went on to say that this poor soul was
not the perpetrator but a drunken fan who did not understand the
reason for the stage invite. I wonder if the publicity from this
incident mellowed out fans at future concerts by this band. I miss
the Stranglers.

Actually, I think I misunderstood. I was thinking of getting only
the 16hp-writing beneath the horseshoe (seen best on the shametown-
single (www.16horsepower.com/discoshametown.html). That should
probably be an easier task for a tattooist...The accordian with the
scull is also very cool, but I don`t think that is too easy to
make...

I couldn't agree more.  Alcohol can and does bring out the worst in some people.  One can't really generalize to such a grand extent that crowds are going to be more appropriately appreciative by virtue of what country or continent they happen to be located in.  While the idiots have been very much in the minority at every show I've ever attended, the unfortunate part is that it only takes one or two idiots to ruin, or at the very least, compromise the experience for alot of the other concertgoers; in a smaller venue especially.  (I'm still trying to figure out what makes larger crowds allegedly boring.  Every large-crowd show I've ever been to was never lacking in appreciative energy!  I'm there to be entertained by the performer anyhow, not amused by the crowd!)

Several years ago at the Magic Stick in Detroit, 16HP played to an enthusiastic, respectful, and appreciative crowd -- save for one big, drunken jackass who just wouldn't stop bellowing through nearly every song.  Various other people in the crowd had to keep telling the guy to shut up and get back.  Then the same jackass -- or at the very least, a jackass who looked and acted just like him -- showed up at a SCAC show in Cleveland a couple years later, and this time, he was trying to slam with people and putting his hands all over people, including myself; and I told him in no uncertain terms to get his hands off me, as did several other people as well.  People kept moving away from wherever he was at because he just wouldn't let up.  He made a nuisance of himself to pretty much everyone in the place, including the band, who went way above and beyond in their patience with this clown.

With reference also to the Mazzy Star show that was discussed on here -- there comes a point where venues need to get more involved when someone's behavior clearly crosses the line.  While it's to be expected that people are going to yell and dance and carry on and have a good time at shows (and this is going to include such things as taking photos or calling their friends to say, hey, this is great), venues need to have people who will get involved when someone's behavior becomes too disruptive, dangerous, or confrontational toward either the band or others in the crowd.  At a 16HP show in Chicago in 1999, a guy in the crowd was not merely yelling through every song, but he was jumping up and down and trying to slam everyone around him.  The venue bouncers came and told him at first to settle down, and when he didn't stay settled down, they removed him outright and made him stand in the back like a little kid in time-out.  This should have been done by the venue where Mazzy Star was playing, and it also should have been done at the SCAC show in Cleveland.  IMO, concertgoers should not have to just grin and bear anything and everything from other concertgoers in the name of everyone having a good time their own way, nor should it be pretty much up to the crowd to police itself (if an inconsiderate person is drunk or hostile enough, that could prove to be hazardous for the person trying to ask them to move, stop bellowing, hang up, take pictures elsewhere, quit shoving in front of everyone else, whatever, no matter how politely the request is phrased).  And if the performer asks the crowd to be quiet, stop taking pictures, turn off their phones, whatever, the venue should deal with flagrant violators.  (Phones can be set to vibrate rather than ring!)

As for other performers who excel at putting out-of-control audience members in their place: Jeff Tweedy of Wilco takes no prisoners, either.

i have the tattoo you are considering.  I rushed into it and got it from a terrible artist.  I am in the process of getting it covered and getting the bandoneon on the other side of my leg.  If you do deside to go with it make sure you talk in lenght with whoever is doing the art because the problem I ran into was that the "artist" did not understand the design as far as what lines were important in creating the skull illusion so i now have a giant black blob that I am always trying to explain what it is.  I will see if I can get a pic to show you what I mean--

Sneak preview the all-new Yahoo.com. It's not radically different. Just radically better.

Not to speak for the said asses, but I generally assume that they are
there for another band on the bill that night or are just there for the
bar and the bands are just noise interfering with their riveting
conversation. Then again, I've been to plenty of shows when I abhor a band
or two on the bill and seem to restrain myself from boisterous talking or
heckling, go figure. I do like the tomato approach but DEE's tactic of
humiliating them works. too. Funny thing is, he's probably actually
sincere when he's making the refund offer!
