Thanks for that. I've never heard of Manes. They certainly "owned" the
song which I thought was cool.

See my king all dressed in red ...
I betcha five dollars he'll kill you dead
I don't remember anyone mentioning this before, and a search in the
archive came up empty: I just listened to a cover of Cinder Alley by the
Manes.

If the cover had been more metal and less electro, I probably would have
liked it. As it is, I *much* prefer the original.

has anyone ordered puur from ultima vez? they have the sort of system where you fill out a form online with your info and then it gets emailed to them and they reply to you with further directions. i tried ordering it but still haven't heard back from them and i really want to hear this recording. i tried finding it on soul seek to tied me over until i was able to get the actual cd but have had no luck finding it yet.
Hi there,
I just doublechecked the Glitterhouse webstore, and it seems that they finally
made it available there. Try under www.glitterhouse.com and then just type
"puur" into their search engine and you will find it.
All the best

Oh...The radio station works only from Sunday to Thursday, 20:00 till the middle of the night Israel time, so the direct listen will work only on those hours...The radio site itself (a pretty outdated, bad site, I must admit) does work: http://radio.huji.ac.il/ . Lets hope that on Thursday it'll work fine :)

Will there be an archive of this show somewhere, so that people who
missed it the first time will have an opportunity to listen to it

Will be aired this Thursday on Mount Scopus radio, 23:00 Israel time, 22:00 Central European time and 13:00 California time. There'll be plenty of music (by Woven Hand, 16 Horsepower and a few related others) and of course, the interview I conducted with Mr. Edwards. The interview is in English, but the (little) talking I'll do will be in Hebrew. For a direct listen: http://132.64.204.91:8000/listen.pls (requires winamp). The radio site is at radio.huji.ac.il Thanks

i didn't like the evangelicals. i don't think much of anyone did at the
portland show because i saw people streaming into the bar and back
outside. i didn;t care much for the explanation of that last song
either. it actually made me profoundly uncomfortable (even moreso then
their incredibly, PAINFULLY high volume did...). i don't object to
words for body parts.
i might have found it jr. highschool funny in any other situation, but
it was such bad jusgment to do that just before woven hand. maybe they
hadn't even HEARD woven hand, since that was the first show on the
tour.
my friend and i did catch DEE in a donut shop in portland where they
sell donuts shaped like penises. some of the other band members were
trying to get him to buy one and he laughed and said "i ain't eatin' no
cock and balls". and he left when someone actually ordered one.
HAHAHHAHAA.
i can't figure out why wove hand is on tour with these other bands.
what i saw of serena maneesh (i was one of the many people who pretty
much split after DEE. it would have ruined the mood to stay) wasn't a
horrible strech to pair woven and with, but in combination with the
evengelicals, it's just plain bizzare. the sun the sea was the first
opener in portland and they were quite good actually. just not.... fitting.
The "Puur"-CD is really amazing - here's the tracklist:
01. To Make A Ring (4:28) Adaptation with performance text excerpts. 02. Breathing Bull (6:40) Performance text excerpt. 03. Shun (4:36) Perfomance text excerpt with additional sounds. 04. Horse Head (3:47) Acoustic adaptation. 05. Lulah Harp (2:45) Instrumental. 06. Low Estate (4:01) Acoustic adaptation. 07. Twig (3:54) Performance text excerpt. 08. Dirty Blue (3:50) Instrumental version with performance text intro. 09. Lena's Song (3:21) Composed by Josh Martin and Hardi Barnewold. 10. Silver Saddle (3:32) Performance text excerpt.
PUUR bonus material: -PUUR promotional trailer of the performance 3:17 -Unreleased Low Estate video from PUUR film 4:25 -Unreleased Horse Head video from PUUR film 3:34
The bonus-videos are amazing too! You see on "Horse Head" David playing solo sitting by a barn, and on "Low Estate" he's playing his accordion and singing on a beach.
It's not listed on the Glitterhouse page yet, but you can order it directly
from Ultima Vez. www.ultimavez.com

Though DEE didn't make the trip north I caught Serena Maneesh and The
Evangelicals when they were in Toronto last week. Serena was amazing, The
Evangelicals were entirely a one trick pony that wore thin very, very
quickly. Lead guy can't play his instrument, has that one vocal hitch he
falls into constantly, everything's at the same tempo and in the same key,
and he's nowhere close to half as clever as he'd like to be. So, no, not a
fan of The Evangelicals at all.
There are some indirect ties between Serena Maneesh and Woven Hand, mostly
thanks to Daniel Smith who played on the Serena record and produced an
earlier band (Royal) that Serena's front man used to have. Emil (Serena's
front man) has some sort of tie to Dan's wife. And Dan, of course, put out
the Woven Hand album. Serena's a pretty big buzz band right now so while
the musical styles don't immediately gel it's a good chance to put David in
some packed rooms that wouldn't otherwise hear his music ...

i was really excited to see woven hand and wondered why he isn't on a tour of
his own. it
seemed like quite a few people were there just to see him because i noticed a
flood of us
left after david played. also, it didn't seem like he really fit with the other
bands. it was
strange seeing such intense, dark music at a show with pop bands. i'm wondering
about
people's opinion of the evangelicals. i thought that there music was pretty
cheesey and
there use of the smoke machine was a bit over the top. i always try to be
respectful
though and give people a chance. however, i felt that the explanation that the
singer gave
of the last song was quite offensive and actually put a damper on the whole show
for me.
i thought his remarks were quite transphobic and it seemed to make quite a few
people
uncomfortable. you know it's band when even the security at the back of the
room are
making comments.

the last time i saw woven hand was last year 2005 august in philadelphia.
it was just david and a someone on drums (sorry i'm bad with names).
it was the most intense show i have ever seen. last night was just
david (for some reason i thought he was going to have 2 people play
with him) and it was great but as i figured being an opening slot,
just when i started to get wrapped into the mood it was over. in fact
it felt like it ended short but i'm not sure about that.
i highly recommend checking out the shows. also if you are interested
in knowing there are (2) woven hand shirts for sale at $15 each,
buttons, cds (mosaic & consider the birds) and a poster for consider the birds.
i'm looking forward to the l.a. show but i didn't stick around for the
main band either.
