The Woven Hand page on My Space has posted Spring tour dates, Denver and a
handful of West Coast shows. The "official" WovenHand.net page has nothing
posted since the last shows.

Is there anybody "in the know" who can shed some light on the live lineup?
Will I get to see the band this time or DEE solo? No complaints either way
from me, 2 shows in LA!

The way Slim himself describes this on his new website:

From Slim Cessna,
I have decided to make some very rare and old recordings available on a CD. This is a 6 song 20 minute CD, and sound quality is not very good. I am charging $15 because I believe there is value in the history of a few of these songs. I am selling these songs to help pay my bills and make ends meet. I will thank you for your purchase by including some other odds and ends with the package - stickers, photos, odds and ends. This is a homemade product. The packaging will not be very fancy.

Outside the USA, the price is $20.  It goes through PayPal.

I think that all the US shows were all solo. I know that here in LA it was
solo. Having not seen DEE since 16HP was last here maybe 5-6 years ago, I
was quite content with the solo show. He had lots of samples of droning
instruments that he switched on between songs, as intros and sometimes
filling out a song in the background. I wanted to get right up front and
at this particular club, you have to decide if you want to get a close up
view or do you want good sound because the PA speakers are up above and
just past the edge of the stage so the sound goes right over your head. We
basically got a lot of guitar and David's vocals off in the background,
which was very dissapointing. But the view was great! I've never seen a
singer expel that much saliva before!
Maybe next tour we'll get the full band, or we can travel to Denver I
guess.

Greetings from MN (USA)!

Say what?  It's cold up and over here! But not as cold as the Woven Hand link you sent! I got the shivers listening to it... I love the lyrics... Eugene sings my Gospel... Indeed, there is power, power, wonder working power in the precious blood of the lamb.  By the way thank you for the link. I listened through it during my devotional time this morning.

Hi Lutz, thanks for the reply.
I'd love to see Jean-Yves drumming live and make up my own mind :)
The interview I did with DEE a few months ago has been transcribed and is on
an online music magazine, that is mostly in Hebrew, but the interview itself
remained in English:

Plus, there is a steady link where you can download the radio show itself,
in so-so sound quality:

I saw them the two other concerts in Norway, Oslo and Bergen. They played close to two hours both times, and it was great. David is just uniqe.

The highlights for me was the start of Winter Shaker - that was just an absurd moment on both days, have no words for it.

I miss the melodies a bit when I hear Woven Hand live. The power and everything else is perfect, but I think some of the brilliant melodies from the albums drown in drums and "speed" (cant find the words). Outlaw song and Black Soul Choir were played, but I would also LOVE to hear some of the 16 HP or WH debut stuff.

Anyway, monumental as always.

I saw Woven Hand the other day in Norway. The gig was of course great,
but having seen WH a good number of times now, I truly miss having a
piano or synth or something. I also still would like to have som 16HP-
stuff on the setlist. On this gig, they only played songs from "Mosaic"
and "Consider The Birds". Not one from the debutalbum. The gig was also
a bit shortended because of the two support acts playing too long.

But hey, of course it was truly golden anyway, and I can`t wait to
have`em back.

cheers

Well, the concert ended with massive versions of My Russia and Your
Russia, maybe those versions were closer to the ones on Blush Music, I
don't know, but that's songs from the debut album ... :) They did play
1 hour and 55 minutes or so, so I wouldn't call it very shortened. And
also there was at least a one 16 HP songs: DEE solo on a long version
of Black Soul Choir, and I thought there also was another one, but I
don't recall which one ... A couple of less massive songs with some
piano would be nice, but all in all a very good concert. (I was also
actually positively suprised by the support act, The Violent Years. I
liked their songs ... I wasn't aware of _two_ support acts ....)

seriously. jean-yves is one of my favorite drummers. he's so good at
weird, intricate stuff. it doesn't quite register at first, but once
you catch on, he's pretty amazing. i can't imagine him playing drums
for woven hand though. the style is too different. maybe he could pull
it off, i don't know. but ordy is MORE than servicable. i love how
everyone in denver has been in everybody else's band at some point.
HAHA.

About the equality between WH and 16HP: I personally prefer WH. I think DEE is
getting better and better at what he does, and if we do choose to do the
seperation between WH and 16HP, it would make sense that WH is better.
Personally, I don't connect that much with S&A nor with Low Estate, and so I am
basically left with 2 16HP albums that I really love (not considering Hoarse or
Olden). On the other hand, each and every WH album (including the Ultima Vez
related ones) is spectacular and emotional, quite often genius in my opinion.
Plus, though I've never seen 16HP live, I seriously doubt it if Jean Yves Toula
could be as powerful as Ordy was at the Brussels show. Damn, that was some fine
drumming! Not only was it powerful, it was also very impressive technically and
showed that he has a wonderful ear and a unique touch that really adds and
connects with DEE's compositions and live intensity.
By the way, anyone has any idea about how they reherse for the live shows, since
they come from 3 diffrent countries. Seems like it would be really hard, yet
they gel together so well!
Thanks

Living in Belgium, I've seen Woven Hand perform quite a lot over the last few years and I agree they are at their very best now. The Brussels show (as well as the one earlier on in Antwerp's beautiful Rivierenhof) showed WH at a new and higher level. Truly amazing live arrangements, almost rocking out more than 16HP did in its final stages. I'm really glad to see how things are working out for DEE and his band, and also glad to see Pascal again. And DEE is finally allowing himself to be funny onstage. Woven Hand is not 'just' a substutute for 16HP, but a genuinely awesome band. Pure bliss.

I came to Belgium especially to see this show, and it was worth every
second/Euro. I have no frame of refrence Woven Hand wise, but for me it was
by far the best show I've ever seen. If anyone cares to correspon further

I would have to second Courtney here, "scrawled and thin" that's exactly what I usually hear, though I do not always have the best set of ears for lyrical exegesis.

I think I heard DEE say that the song is about carving your initials in the bark of a tree and drwaing a heartshape around them, the way young lovers do. It is one of my faves too, in addition to Phyllis Ruth.

It's funny how everyone hears something different.  I always thought the part you referred to was "white hips sway" and "I am yours...lady, scrawled and thin"  (granted, scrawled and thin doesn't make much sense)   I too love this song, it's one of the best songs ever!

I always thought it was.. "wide hip sway".. and "I am yours..lady
strong and thin".. and "in my wedding dress" (meaning dressed for a
wedding not an actual dress)... I love this song so much

Hope all is well

Hi everybody,

I have uploaded some photos I took during the concert in Deventer,
Holland. They are not my best cause I took them with my left hand
since I broke my right arm 2 weeks ago.

The photos are in the Files section.

actually, king, i agree with you....but i think scrawled and thin makes
perfect sense. the song is "scrawled in sap"...and well, david is
rather...thin.

it's a very poetic image.

It's funny how everyone hears something different. I always thought the
part you referred to was "white hips sway" and "I am yours...lady,
scrawled and thin" (granted, scrawled and thin doesn't make much sense)
I too love this song, it's one of the best songs ever!

Courtney

Klaatu Barada!

At Bruxelles Woven Hand performed a brandnew song!

They opened the show with "Sign of the Zodiac" - it's a cover-version from Rasputina!

Take care,

Thanks for the update, Alex

Setlist looks quite similar to the summer-tour setlist. I still
think they should make space for one or two 16HP-songs...
