Hello everyone,

I lost track of the 4ad forum, and now found it here thanks to a kind fellow
selling a cd on ebay :). I was surprised to see Tindersticks now on 4ad, that is
the type of information I have been missing.

What I reallly want to know is what this is:

CAMERA OBSCURA
My Maudlin Career EP
FEBRUARY 9 (UK)
EAD 2911 S ITM (Digital download)

I did some searching but google brought me right back to the posts on the 4ad-l
group.

What tracks are on it? I didn't see it available to download from 4ad, but maybe
I was looking in the wrong places.

thanks!

It's a bit misleading with the spaces in the catalogue number, as we no longer
have spaces in the catalogue number for anything, but it might still show on the
artwork.

That release is an iTunes only one, (hence the ITM - thats their three digit
code) - this is the link you need, it was just a single track release -
http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/my-maudlin-career-single/id303850285

I'm not sure if it was worldwide, but this often happens when a track goes to
radio, and it's released early so people can buy it.

Hope that helps!

jo

Ah Jo! You got there before me. :P Nothing more to add really - other than it
was made available to download for nothing if you signed up for the Camera
Obscura website. :D

Oh and a one track cd promo exists as well but that hasn't got any artwork. Just
the CD.

Thanks for the info Jo and Stuart.

Coincidentally I received the Camera Obscura "Holiday Edition" of My Maudlin
Career, given to me by my wonderful girlfriend (who would have to be just by
finding this for me!). We saw them live in DC, and she had recently heard me
complaining about how I couldn't find the Blizzard 7" easily. I had no idea of
this version, which made me wonder how anyone would, unless you start looking
for everything related on amazon.com - that's where it came from. It is the
normal cd, but shrink-wrapped with it is a 1-track "Blizzard" cd (also
shrink-wrapped itself ). The barcode from the single is the same as that for the
7", but I can't spot any label numbers on it. I just put the cd in itunes, and
it was recognized. I am learning a lot about barcodes today (and "itm", I didn't
think of the obvious there!). I searched on the barcode for the overall
package(652637290790), which includes the individually shrink-wrapped cd and the
cd single, but nothing came up. The site allowed me to see other items with the
same prefix, and they were all 4ad releases.

all in all, one sweet day for me :)

So if i'm correct there'll be clashes if any cat# of this year has the same
format as the particular cat# of 1993, right?

In that year we had the following formats:
B/AD 3001 - Single [belly]
CAD 3002 - Album [belly]
BAD 3003 - EP [uvs]
CAD 3004 - Album [f.black]
B/AD 3005 - Single [f.black]
cad 3006 - Album [hnia]
bad 3007 - EP [unrest]
dad 3008 - Double-album [rhp]
cad 3009 - Album [h.berry]
bad 3010 - EP [h.berry]
bad 3011 - EP [breeders]
cad 3012 - Album [unrest]
dad 3013 - Double-album [dcd]
cad 3014 - Album [breeders]
bad 3015 - EP [unrest]
cad 3016 - Album [rhp]
b/ad 3017 - Single [breeders]

Oddly the first anounced release of this year is already heading for a clash
(Tindersticks' Falling Down a Mountain [CAD 3X02] vs. Belly's Star [CAD 3002])
... or is it not?
It seems i still don't get it. Help!

From what I can gather, in our databases the 1993 releases all (or pretty much
all, bar a couple) have 13 digit barcodes. So there may be one or two clashes,
which I guess if the right formats are used for that release will be avoided -
but it's difficult to say (I'm not back at work until August, so I have no idea
what's going on, other people are taking care of this, thank god!).

It should be interesting...!

Well i don't want to be indiscreet but i do hope that there's a pleasant reason

No big secret - I had a baby girl back last August, so I'm on a years maternity
leave (which is actually harder work than being at work, let me tell you!) - I
do pop in the office every couple of months though, so do get to catch up on
what's going on - I'm relying on you lot now for updates :-)

It's quite nice!

Hi over there 4AD listees. I hope everything is fine in this new year.

I´ve been thinking these last days about our lovely label and its 30tnh
anniversary. For me,  I hope the label announces some special event, something
really nice and I hop to be able to travel to wherever it takes place.

Meanwhile, how about making a special gift for the label. Getting a picture of
our nice records (vinyls, tapes, cds) from the label and writting a deep-heart
letter, telling them how we got in contact the 4AD and our experiencies with
their releases.

We may send it to London member who may collect them all and send it therefore
to the headquarters, as a surprise and at least, get freebies fo uss
hahahahahaa.

So well, hope to get some answers.

Saludos desde Bogotá, Colombia
José Enrique Plata M.

Stornoway signs to 4AD

9 February 2010

We are delighted to announce that the Oxford based band Stornoway have signed to
4AD.

2010 is already shaping up to be a strong year for Stornoway, one to match their
not inconsiderable successes of 2009.

January saw the Oxford ʻFaux Popʼ songsmiths being credited with the enviable
accolade of a position in the highly influential BBC Sound of 2010 tastemaker
poll.

It is rare that the BBC gets its predictions wrong and many previous early tips
from them have gone on to achieve greatness.

The band are now moving on from being phenomenally credible, independent,
unsigned artists to being one of the first key signings of 2010 and with their
debut album set for a late May release they are starting the year as they mean
to go on.

“The ace up Stornoway’s sleeve is that their songs are suffused with
unmistakable melancholy and poignancy†â€" The Sunday Times Culture, Tips For
2010

“Romantic nature-lauding lyrics†NME

“Stornoway have the gift of writing new songs that sound timeless†The Daily
Telegraph

“The most marvellous thing weʼve seen in ages… not one song was less than
lovely and they immediately became Our New Favourite Band†The Guardian
