studio pictures at All About Hem's Twelfth Night discography page

Hem's fifth full length album, "Twelfth Night," with music by Hem and
words by Shakespeare (who, you may know, is a pretty good writer) is
in stores today. Go buy it! It's available almost everywhere as a CD
at places like Newbury Comics and Amazon and as a download at places
like iTunes. When you're done, come back to All About Hem to visit the
"Twelfth Night" discography page with tons of information about the
album and about this summer's Shakespeare in the Park production in
New York's Central Park that included the music on the new album and
whose cast sings all the show's songs on the album. And it's a great
cast, including Anne Hathaway, Audra McDonald, Raśl Esparza, and David
Pittu.
Enjoy!

Hem's "Twelfth Night" album is still set for release on October 27.
Pre-order the Twelfth Night album from Newbury Comics (only $7.99),
and you'll get an autographed copy. Go on, order until supplies are
exhausted and everyone has very sore signing hands. If you're not
familiar with Newbury Comics, it's an independently owned music
retailer with a couple dozen very fun stores in New England.
Sign up for Hem's new mailing list and get a free mp3 of the
instrumental song "Sebastian & Antonio" from "Twelfth Night." Even if
you think you're on Hem's mailing list, sign up now. They're using a
new email service, and you won't get any official email updates from
the band unless you follow the link in today's news update. Thank you

Visit today's news update to enjoy a stream of Hem's upcoming album
"Twelfth Night." I particularly recommend the songs "Full Fathom
Five," "O Mistress Mine," "The Wind And The Rain," and "Where Is Fancy
Bred?" (my selections of which may possibly be biased since those are
the songs Hem worked on the superb day I visited the studio). Go, now!

lot, a lot about the album on the "Twelfth Night" discography page.

Official opening night of Twelfth Night was June 25, which means that

list of links to reviews in today's news and on the Twelfth Night
discography page.
Over the weekend I had the excellent fortune of visiting Hem in the
studio as they worked on the Twelfth Night album. The variety of songs
I heard from the show sound more lush and clear than possible in an
outdoor theater, and the bonus songs not in the show were extremely
exciting. The bonus songs are thematically relevant to the Twelfth
Night characters but have roots in other Shakespearean plays. In
particular, the song "Where Is Fancy Bred?" (from The Merchant of
Venice, and probably not coincidentally, Willy Wonka) sung by Orsino
(Raśl Esparza) was a marvel, with a melody and orchestration that
created a goosebump extravaganza that made my jaw drop each time the
song rang through the studio. Every song sounded gorgeous, and you
should preorder the CD right now! I took too many photos for speedy
sorting and sharing, so please visit All About Hem again in a few days
for pictures from the studio that are bigger and better than the
little preview in today's news.
Enjoy!

Lots of news today.
1. It was my pleasure to see (and hear!) the Public Theater's
production of Twelfth Night, which as you surely know includes
original music written and recorded by Hem. Pictures and recording are
not allowed inside the theater, but you can find photos of the
playbill and posters outside the theater on the new Twelfth Night page
of fun.
2. Twelfth Night is slated to be a Hem album. Within the next 2 weeks,
the album should be ready for your listening enjoyment. Pre-ordering
details should be available at performances of the show shortly, and
I'll share ordering information for everybody else as soon as I know
it. The album will include the cast singing and the music from the
show (recorded songs and live-performed songs) as well as a number of
songs that did not end up in the final version of the show.
3. The discography page formerly known as the "new album" page is now
officially renamed with the name of the album, "Departure and
Farewell.". The page is also updated with some new details about some
previously-shared songs ("A Wolf in the Woods" and "Last Call") and
the addition of some new songs ("So Long" and "Departure and
Farewell"). Expect the album in early Autumn 2009.
4. "You Don't Know About Me Without You" at long last has a
discography page! The album is a collection of 43 songs each having a
name of one the 43 chapter titles in Mark Twain's book "The Adventures
of Huckleberry Finn." Hem has already collaborated with a number of
artists for about 10 songs in progress, and the album is planned to be
completed following "Departure and Farewell."
Links and more are on the news page. Enjoy!

Exciting news! Hem is providing original music for The Public
Theater's summer production of "Twelfth Night" at the Delacorte
Theater in Central Park. The show runs June 10 - July 12 as part of
the free, annual Shakespeare in the Park series in New York. The cast
is great and includes Anne Hatheway and Audra MacDonald. Hem will not
be performing the new music live every night, but do not despair
because the new music recorded by the band will be played with live
accompaniment. Links are on the news page to read more about this
fantastic show at the Public Theater's site and in a couple articles
that mention Hem's involvement at the New York Times arts blog and
Broadway World. Also go see what Hem has to say about giving
Shakespeare the musical treatment at MySpace and Twitter.

link to a vacation photo are in today's news.

part of these shows: Bracknell, 27 Feb 2005; Dublin, 3 Mar 2005; and
Brooklyn, 16 Apr 2005. Also listen to a 2006 Valentine's compilation

Also, today is All About Hem's 5th birthday. Thanks to everyone for

Visit today's news update to read an article in The Washington Times
about the carnival-themed Liberty Mutual television commercial using
Hem's new song "Better Days" and the overall awesomeness of Hem. As a
bonus, the article is written by Mary Chapin Carpenter, who knows a
thing or two about musical awesomeness having made some lovely music
herself. As a super bonus, the article has a little music player where
you can hear a sample of "Better Days" more clearly than you can hear
it in the ad. I don't think it's the final version of the song,
though, because it still has the da-da-da-da-da-dum bars of the song
"Half Acre" at the end (as has become a constant in the Hem-backed
Liberty Mutual ads). Go, read, listen, enjoy!
