It doesn't seem like there is much happening here, but I like the
format so I thought I'd join last night. There aren't too many purely
analog modualr synthesizer groups on Yahoo other than the DotCom
group.
A bit of history. I have been making music all my life since taking
piano lessons at the age of four. My involvment in electronic music
started in 1979. I have listened and been a fan of EM since 1969
(Switched On Bach - Carlos), but it took a band I was in who were
making original music to break away from R&B and rock. We bought some
synths to suppliment the Hammon organ and Elka string synth. I built
my PAIA P4700J with the 8700 computer controller and a PAIA sequencer
kit in 1980. I bought an Arp AXXE about the same time and learned
quite a bit about subtractive synthesis. I was hopelessly hooked. I
had been a great fan of Tangerine Dream since 1973 and continued to
buy and build synths form there. We were building customized trigger,
C/V and gate circuits to handle synchronization and sequential music
was the goal.
I got married and had a few kids a few years later and gave it all up
for a dime-on-the-dollar. I wish I had all those vintage synths now,
but I did manage to luck into the PAIA modular and the Arp Axxe later
and bought them back. The Arp was a restoration project and is still
pumping out the sounds. The PAIA is less useful. It still makes
sounds but the Rockwell 6500 CPU is flakey. I have been building up
the studio again since 2006 with a few choice rack, keyboard and soft
synth units. I use Cubase4 and an iMac.
I am now building a 44 space Synthesizers.com modular. My goal is to
once again return to my roots with a fine quality analog step
sequencer driving the analog modular. I have almost everything except
the Q960 sequencer, which I hope to purchase early in 2009. My other
goal is to get a Bode Frequency Shifter or (ModCan substitute). I am
very fond of the subtle use of this processor.
