The new Q961S Gate Sequencer from Club of the Knobs is out. There are
single and duel gate controllers. These look nice.
http://www.cluboftheknobs.com/new12.08.htm
I am still saving my pennies to buy a Q960 Sequential Controller from
Synthesizers.com. I've only been building my 44 space portable unit
for about 5 months, but all I lack now is the sequencer. After that I
will start on another 22 space cabinet for more modules and another
Q960.
http://www.synthesizers.com
I am working on another photographic series of my small studio so I
don't have a current picture of my modular. The only photos I do have
are a few months old. It is hard for me to keep updating each time I
buy a module, but I guess at some point I need to replace the older
shots.

Anybody else here using a large format modular?
-David Ryle (Kindred Lost)
Here is a link to my song website. I've been on hiatus from music-making until
2007 so
some of these are pretty lame. For the most part only a few of the tunes are
completely
analog ("Houston Hill" for instance except the virtual drums and melotron
flute), but
almost all of them have some analog synth sounds in them.
http://www.iacmusic.com/kindredlost
The analog synths I currently own are...
-Synthesizers.com Arrick modular
-Dave Smith Prophet 08
-Arp Axxe
-PAIA P4700J with 8700 controller
-Yamaha DX7IID (pseudo-analog vintage synth)
-Oberheim Matrix6
Some vintage equipment I used to own (back when they were new)...
-Roland Jupiter 4
-Sequential Circuits Pro-One
-Sequential Circuits Six-Trak
-Sequential Circuits Prophet 600
-Korg MS-10
-Korg Poly Six
-Korg Mono/Poly
-Synare Drums
-Roland RS505 Para-Phonic
-Roland RE202 Space Echo (okay, not a synth but essential just the same)
-Elka String synthesizer
-Roland TR-606
-Roland TB-303
-EMu EMax
-EMu SP1200
-PAIA P4700J modular
-PAIA Drum Machine
-Simmons drums
some of the virtual synths I currently own...
-Access Virus TI
-Waldorf Microwave XT
-Waldorf MicroQ
-Waldorf Blofeld
-Korg Kaoss KP3 pad
-Nord Lead 2x
-Yamaha PSR-510
controllers I currently use...
-Novation ReMOTE SL-37
-Korg padKONTROL

-Arturia Moog ModularV
-Atruria Arp 2600V
-Arturia CS80V
-Arturia Jupiter-8V
-GForce Mtron
-GForce ImpOSCar
-NI Kontakt2
-NI FM8
-StormGate
-Bass Station
-Addictive Drums
-NI Synthetic Drums
-LinPlug Octopus
I also play guitar and bass...
-Les Paul special
-Fender Stratocaster
-Fender Jazz bass
-OLP 5 string bass
-Ibanez SZ320
-Line 6 PODS for bass and guitar
-various pedals and effects
-Lexicon MX200 delay/reverb
It doesn't seem like there is much happening here, but I like the
format so I thought I'd join last night. There aren't too many purely
analog modualr synthesizer groups on Yahoo other than the DotCom
group.
A bit of history. I have been making music all my life since taking
piano lessons at the age of four. My involvment in electronic music
started in 1979. I have listened and been a fan of EM since 1969
(Switched On Bach - Carlos), but it took a band I was in who were
making original music to break away from R&B and rock. We bought some
synths to suppliment the Hammon organ and Elka string synth. I built
my PAIA P4700J with the 8700 computer controller and a PAIA sequencer
kit in 1980. I bought an Arp AXXE about the same time and learned
quite a bit about subtractive synthesis. I was hopelessly hooked. I
had been a great fan of Tangerine Dream since 1973 and continued to
buy and build synths form there. We were building customized trigger,
C/V and gate circuits to handle synchronization and sequential music
was the goal.
I got married and had a few kids a few years later and gave it all up
for a dime-on-the-dollar. I wish I had all those vintage synths now,
but I did manage to luck into the PAIA modular and the Arp Axxe later
and bought them back. The Arp was a restoration project and is still
pumping out the sounds. The PAIA is less useful. It still makes
sounds but the Rockwell 6500 CPU is flakey. I have been building up
the studio again since 2006 with a few choice rack, keyboard and soft
synth units. I use Cubase4 and an iMac.
I am now building a 44 space Synthesizers.com modular. My goal is to
once again return to my roots with a fine quality analog step
sequencer driving the analog modular. I have almost everything except
the Q960 sequencer, which I hope to purchase early in 2009. My other
goal is to get a Bode Frequency Shifter or (ModCan substitute). I am
very fond of the subtle use of this processor.

Hi Guys,
Anyone out there speak ETI3600/4600 ?
I have the construction manuals for 4600 and the 3800/5600(Maplin), but
would like to get the magazine articles for the 3600.
If anyone has indexes for ETI 1974 and ETI 1975 I might be able to get
copies of the articals from the library

Hi guys, I'm looking to do a few mods on my Jen, Basically I want an
audio input at the VCF stage, and maybe CV/Gate, or any other mods
that can be done. If anyone has any info, please post it here, or
email me. Thanks in advance
After testing each and every component, trace and wire, the fault
proved to be wear on the cable-to-board connectors. The metal was
simply worn past breaking point. Took 30 hours to find that one loose
bastard.. And his friends proved capable of all the instability of
the unit.
(Connector 11 and co, at the "pulse sheet" - according to the 1976
service notes.)
Now it's back to it's rightful collection of natural sounding presets
and downright evil filter.
(Considering buying a piano? The tuba taking too much out of your
space and pocket? No problem with the SH1000 - Yesterday's future at
your fingertips.)

I used plastic caps from ELFA on my mk II - it's a tight fit, and
they don't have all the funky colours, but I'm pleased.
Catalog number 35-331-55 and thereabout
or

bin/dyndok.pl?lang=no&vat=0&dok=5108.htm
Dollar 5 for 10.
A couple of sliders needed replacement, and I bought some smooth
action ones from Synthfool - with a black pole, though.

Just in case anyone has encountered this variety before -
Appearantly, the unit has suffered a voltage spike, blowing the fuse on
the "pulse Sheet Assembly" card. After changing critical tantalyts,
I've tested each - and every - card in another, working unit, and they
all come out sounding as they should. Still, when put back in the
patient, no sound comes out.
All pots, sliders and knobs tests out ok, and the wiring seem to run
where it should. I also get correct reads from the PS.
What is going on here?

I've noticed someone or some company has joined the group and spammed
up the messageboard and email system. My apologies for this, and I
have cleared out all the rubbish. I set the site to automatically
allow access without pending, which meant less work for me, since I'm
really busy with my business at the moment.
I've had to set it back to pending for incoming memberships, which
means more work for me, but less spam for you. I really don't know a
way around this without getting someone else to co-manage this group.
Any ideas or suggestions put forward would be happily received.
I got a CS5, and it sounds nuthin like a MS10... way way different..
I sure do love both tho.
Both early Korg & Early yamaha both had Hz/octave & S-trig for there
CV & Gates, so it should work just dandy.
Good luck!

Hi everyone!
Well, i'm buying a CS10 next week, i already own a Korg MS10.My
question is, is the Yamaha too similar to the MS10, can i connect
yamaha via CV or something to the MS10 and work with the two synths
plugged to each other?
Thanks in advance.

Hello!
I have a Matrix6R whose first voice plays about one and a half times
as loud as the other five voices. Is this probably a VCA or VCF
trimpot in need of adjustment? ..or a problem with an op-amp. . ?
or. . ?
I love these sounds and can't wait to get back to using them..
Please let me know if you have any suggestions !

I know this is a long shot, but has anybody out there modified a JSQ-60
so that it can slave off DIN Sync?
It's got 2 DIN outs, and thats it.. pretty lousy really.. It would be
kinda cool to be able to sequence my Juno60 off this as I got it for
free.
Cheers
Mike
what do you guys think of the Moog source?
To my ears, in a mix, it sounds a lot like a Minimoog.

Hello again.
I've managed to accomplish all of the modifications that I had
planned. . as well as some others. . I will post some information and
pictures this week.
I do have two remaining questions.
Can anyone tell me:
1- how to control the two OSCs seperately with two CV inputs?
2- whether or not it is safe to clean the Prodigy's sliders with
WD-40, generic switch cleaner, etc ?
Thanks to those of you who have emailed me with input and encouragement.

Apologies for the massive cross-post, but want to make sure all John's
fans get the news.
Following is the official family press release.
In Memoriam: John Stayton Simonton, Jr.
June 24, 1943 – Nov. 25, 2005
Oklahoma City – Founder and president of PAiA Electronics, Inc. (OKC)
John Stayton Simonton, Jr. died at his home in Arcadia, Okla. on
Friday, Nov. 25 after a yearlong battle with esophageal cancer. He was
62 years old.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii to John and Eva Simonton, John Simonton grew
up in New Orleans, La. graduating from the Sam Barth School for Boys
and the Metairie Park Country Day School. In 1965 while finishing his
engineering and psychology degree at Louisiana Tech University in
Ruston, La. he met and married Linda Brumfield Simonton.
After completing his degree in 1967, John moved to Oklahoma to work for
the first computerized jet engine test facility at Tinker A.F.B.
In 1968, John founded PAiA Electronics, Inc. in Oklahoma City, a
company dedicated to providing synthesizer kits to the do-it-yourself
electronic musician. John Simonton has designed hundreds of products
including the Gnome MicroSynthesizer, the SMPL System SMPTE / MIDI /
Machine synchronizer and the PAiA Programmable Drum Set, which is
credited with being the first commercially available user-programmable
percussion box.
Many music artists received their first exposure to synthesis with
PAiA’s modular systems. Many engineers, scientists and technicians had
early exposure to their professions through his trade journal articles.
His work with starved tube circuitry produced the TubeHead series of
preamplifiers and his most recent project was PAiA's Theremax theremin.
A widely read author and contributor in the electronic popular press,
John was also the publisher of Polyphony magazine, which was first
published in 1975 and later renamed Electronic Musician. Electronic
Musician eventually sold to Mix Publications of Berkeley in 1985. John
was also the founding partner in High Technology, Inc. the first
computer store in Oklahoma in 1976, which became the first wholesale
distributor for Apple Computer, Inc. in 1977.
Deeply dedicated to doing what was right, John was a mentor and
inspiration to many do-it-yourselfers encouraging them to pursue
avocations and careers in engineering and music.
He is survived by wife Linda Simonton, daughter D. Stayton (Staci)
Craig, son John S. Simonton III (Trey), granddaughters Nikki Craig and
Callie Simonton, and grandson Christopher Kai Simonton.
A memorial service to celebrate John’s life will be held at 6 p.m.,
Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Omniplex Science Museum in Oklahoma City. In
lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the John S. Simonton Memorial
Fund at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation, PO Box 1146, Oklahoma
City 73101.
. . I've determined that I have the earlier version of the Prodigy. Also, I've got my Audio Input working perfectly..
I still could use any advice on the Filter Control Input, the switch issue, and on the FM filter mod (which is trickier on the earlier models, apparently)..
Thanks a lot !

Hi.
I've got a prodigy with CV/gate-inputs. I don't know if these were
originally built-in or if Mike Bucki (moog tech) installed them
later. I don't know because my unit hasn't got the panel with the
serial number.. I bought just the electronics without a keyboard or
case and have built the unit into a pine box.. So, its just a module
that I'm currently controlling with my Korg Mono/Poly.
I would like to install an audio input jack and a filter FM
control. .

Now, I realize that these modifications should be very painless. .
but not in my case. The previous owner silicon-ed the knobs onto the
pots!! So, I can't look at the component side of my Prodigy's board.
If anyone could guide me to the proper solder points on the back of
the board, I would very very much appreciate it and I am even
offering a slight financial reimbursement for the time and energy.
Please let me know if you'll work with me on this.
It will probably involve looking at the schematics and taking a few
pictures with your digital camera.
Thanks a lot !

Also, what do you do when the two position switches (Osc Mod On/Off,
Filt Mod On/Off, Mod Shape..) don't move as freely as they should?
In fact, I have to be very careful to switch the Osc Mod On/Off at
all.. Maybe there're dirty? Or there could be some internal
breakage (though I doubt it) (?)
Does anybody out there know the pin-pin wiring for a Roland DCB cable??
I just got hold of a JSQ-700 and I wanna sequence my Juno 60.
Weeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!
Cheers

[AnalogueSynthesisers] Servicing an Arp Odyssey
I found black slider caps that work at a surplus
store here in Orlando, Skycraft. They’re slightly thicker than the originals,
but you really can’t tell. They’re also about an inch long, but I just snipped
off the appropriate length with scissors. They fit perfectly and are
undetectable in use. Best of all, they were 10 cents.

Nice one
mate.
I've got two
oddys (A black face & white face, and I would never part with them)
Does anyone
know where to get slider caps for them? one of my Oddys is looking rather
scrappy with some missing.
If only chips
for brains (on Ebay) would start making them..

Upon arrival it was apparent that, while well-cared for, this Odyssey could use a good cleaning, and the noise generator was broken. I also wnated to improve the cutoff frequency of the 4075 filter.
I've set up a web page to document the process with some nice, clear photos, and to provide some useful references:
