After working with an Arp 2600 in high school during the early 70's
and then building my own version using a PAiA 2700, I'd taken a long
break from analog synths. But recently I found an Arp Odyssey in good
condition on ebay.
Upon arrival it was apparent that, while well-cared for, this Odyssey
could use a good cleaning, and the noise generator was broken. I also
wnated to improve the cutoff frequency of the 4075 filter.
I've set up a web page to document the process with some nice, clear
photos, and to provide some useful references:

Well, actually I'm not in debt. I have managed to keep some money (ca. 50.000 $).
Say, is it possible to join in a Warlord group, like some kind of business associate or shareholder? I would move to Mozambique and then I would have a funny name like "Baby-Dog" Búre and we could jerk off with our rifles.
Oh, and of cause we still can make some music ;o)

This may be off topic of the analogue king but I also use the Synth1
vst synth with is modelled after an analogue syth I think, can't
remember the name but its free.I use it on a few songs but none are
on my site yet. I hope to have a few new things done with the MS10
in few days or a week or so.Also have the free SoundForum synth
thats free for download at Native instruments.
Nice website & cool photos on there. I once had the chance to listen to the P5. Definately great sound. I could afford to buy one & got me the Native Instruments P-53, except a few good sounds it's way too boring and cold.
Rick, been to your website, but my slow dial up spoils the fun with video :o( Nevermind. There are some great virtual synths for sure. Absynth and Reaktor are very interesting, but too much graphic for me to handle.
Oh, btw. Forgot to say "Hi, everyone!" :o) I'm Sven from Germany & joined when I wanted to see Solaris' site with pictures of this RCA which can fill rooms.
My studio pal has a lot of analog gear (MS-10, 808, 909, 101, 202, 303, yes, he definately is a Roland fetishist, and other stuff... HARMS MAC-10 midi/cv-interface, FX and borrowed stuff like Novation Bass Station, Poly-800).
I'm a half hardware/half software guy (VIRUS A!
, NordRack2, JX-8p, ASR-10, 505, RZ-1, MS-404 and MB33).
So if anyone got problems with those above maybe I can be of help.
Cheers, Sven

The Ms10 is my only synth thats analogue. I also use a Ensoniq
Mirage keyboard sampler. That's my main keyboard thats the main midi
keyboard. i have loads of vst plugins in my computer. I hooked up
with that model by asking permission to use her model photos in
exchange for some free web exposure. I have done a few other videos
of her, some are not on the sites I have at the moment. In those
videos I'm using plugins for the music. Some of my music is done
totally in the computer and some outside. I would love to have a
real moog synth but for now I'm just messing around with the virtual
plugin they make. Its a demo so every few secs you hear pink noise
blasting.
I also like the Absyth plugin(demo) I've done music with that
because they don't have the awful noise burst and you can use it for
2o mins at a time. The intro to my www.rikdaren.com website uses
that plugin and a wave sample of a drum loop. If you go to my site
and click where it says FLASH intro and not HTML you can see that
video. I'm basically a guitar play first than a synth player so I
don't have too many other synths.
I was also happy when I found that page. This dude rocks by hosting it. My studio pal bought a used MS-10 last December, but without a manual. We had never used semi-modular before.
Rock on with your tunes, dude! Cheers.

Hi James. I went to your website.I see that you run a recording
studio. I have my own studio in my house but at the moment its under
construction so I use a bedroom studio upstairs I call studio C. If
I'm up there where you are I'll have to check your studio out.I do
use vsts plugins of course but I still use my MS-10 for special
sounds and even entire songs or parts of them. If you check out my
website at www.rikdaren.com and visit my music page you'll find my
studio equipment pages where if you keep looking you'll find the
page with my Korg MS-10. On that page I have a flash video I created
which features the sound of my Korg. This recording was done many
years ago on an old Teac 4 trk portastudio. My newer material will
contain my Korg as well as digital sound modules and vsts. But I
still love the old way of recording track by track. It takes a
little longer but its almost like creating a painting. Most of the
other music on my site is done with the computer and guitars. Anyway
I enjoyed your website. Rik
The sound of the analogs has not been equaled by
software either.
Have a look at my synths:

Hi,
I am selling my Roland System 100 analog modular synth.
(ebay item # 2579456833)(complete system) I will post internationally.
Here's what I wrote about my system 100 on ebay:
ROLAND SYSTEM 100 ANOLOG MODULAR SYNTHERSIZER
Classic 70's Roland modular synthersizer. For that touch of true
Analoug modular madness ;) I am selling the compete system as a whole,
The Roland System 100 was Rolands top of the line synthersizer in the
mid to late 70's, it can do virtually anything, strings, french horns,
weird flutes, synthetic sounds, weird kraftwerk bleeps and bloops
(they had one at one stage)and techno timbres. If you're into making
new sounds, techno, Vangelis (he had one), Kraftwerk ect, this synth
is perfect, or for general weirdness, like Aphex twin, Norman Cook
(has one) great for fresh timbres and as an inspirational machine....
I've been surprised at how "alive" the sound of the system 100 is,
compared to modern synths. It had a warm round tone, that is more like
an acoustic instrument in some ways. It doesnt have that awful
"perfectness" of a digital synth.... It can be surprisingly realistic
sounding with horn, flute and string sounds, or bitingly and
agressively sythetic and hard. The system 100 includes the dual 12
step anolouge sequencer, module 101 (keyboard) module 102 with wicked
anolouge ring mod(stands up behind keyboard), four channel mixer/amp
with spring reverb and speakers, Original manual (in good condition)
And the fantastic 3 book "roland beginners guid to synthesis", written
for the system 100.... This system 100 is in exellent condition.
Please email me with your postcode if you'd like to know what the
postage costs would be. Please take a look at these following link for
more detailed specs on the system 100 and read user reviews...

I'm also selling a Yamaha DX7II and YAMAHA DX27 on Ebay at the moment:
DX7II (ebay iten # 2580093558)(exellent cond.) DX27
(ebay item# 2580669752) on ebay at the moment, starting at $180 (AU)
for the DX7II, and $150 (AU) for the DX27. I will post internationally.
Here is a little bit about the DX7II, that I wrote for my EBAY ad, it
explains a little about the differance too between the DX7 and the DX7II.
A bit about the DX7, DX7II
The classic Yamaha DX7 changed the sound of music first way back with
the first model DX7 in 1982. Capable of realistic instrument sounds
for the first time in the history of synthesis, the DX7 was a truely
ground breaking instrument. I am selling the post 1987 model, the mark
2 version, the DX7II. This model had many improvements over the first,
including the ability to be bi- timberal, better quality 16 bit audio,
proper midi implementation (0-127 volume), better memory cartridges,
better quality knobs, a more professional and classy styling, a tuning
feature that allows you to play any scale (as in aribic ect)(user
programmable) and a tuning mode that simulates the flutions of tunings
in acoustic musical instruments. The best thing about the DX7's sound
is its ability to change timbre depending on how hard you press a key.
Most modern synths just vary the volume of the selected sound up and
down in a crude and primitive way, wereas the DX7 behaves more like a
real instrument, reacting in sometimes a natural way to velocity,
other times wildly and agressively, depending on the sound selected.
This synth is used also a lot for techno, as it can produce biting
metalic and bizaare synthetic timbres as well. Comes with a manual and
programming guide. I have put some of the best sounds avalible for the
DX7 on the net into this keyboard, plus there is all the original
presets on the included memory cartridge. Remember, there are
thousands apon thousands of more sounds avalible for the DX7 on the
internet, more than any other keyboard. 95% of these sounds are
avalible for free, which is another bonus in buying this synth! This
DX7II is in exellent condition, with only one small scratch on one of
the panels on the top. Otherwise, it is virtually new in appearance,
and everything works perfectly.
hey,
I'm new... I just got a hold of a realistic MG-1, I was well aware
that it was not working properlly when I bought it... I actually think
that there is something wrong with one of the circuits for the
"keyboard glide" (portamento)control. this guys a lot like a moog
rouge, and uses a Moog ladder circuit, but does anyone know
anything about Moog Portamento circuits and how to go about
repairing them? also I have a dissfuntional frequency divider
chip, which means that certain notes on my keyboard won't
sound... does this have anything to do with the portamento not
working, my intuition says yes, but i just don't know enough
about the circuit...
this is getting long winded. If anyone can help that I would be
much obliged....
=nick=
This list is awfully quiet!! Let's liven it up a bit....
I was digging around in my old photos the other day and found the
only known photo that exists of my very first homemade analog
synth. Enthused, I decided to drag my E&MM Spectrum down from
the attic too, and took a bunch of photos of it for posperity. I put it
all together in a webpage. If you are so inclined, please take a look
and let me have your comments/questions. Note that if you click a
small photo, it should download/display the full resolution version of it -
the newer photos are 1.7MB each (4Mpixel camera), so be prepared
for a long wait if you're on a modem!
