This seems to be a good announcement:

As well Marilyn, Mark Dresser and I convened at Tedesco's studio in Teaneck, NJ
in April 2011 to record a CD for Tzadik records of Anthony Braxton's music. The
idea for this production emanated from a reunion we had on the occassion of
Anthony Braxton's 65th birthday which was celebrated in the form of a
fundraising for the Tri-Axium foundation at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC in 2010
(read more and hear the concert recorded by NPR here). John Zorn was there whom
I also performed with in a quartet with Dave Douglas and Brad Jones, and the
following day when Dresser and Zorn met by chance in the East Village, the idea
for this production was discussed. I will produce the recording in the next
months. Too early to say when it will be released.

I'm wondering, did AB ever play with Jack DeJohnette aside from that one
"Creative Music Studio" gig with Miroslav Vitous and Chick Corea? I
think that would be a very interesting pairing to hear, particulary as
JDJ have been doing some explorations since then that are pretty far
from conventional jazz structure and instrumentation.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzzkOtCrP8Q

I
always felt AB's collaborations with players not mainly associated with
the avant garde, such as Ray Anderson, Max Roach or John Lindberg to be
among my personal favorites, as they tend to add a certain earthiness
to his pieces rather than taking them too far out into chaos and
incomprehensibility, like a certain pianist tends to for example. Who
else would you like to hear AB with?

Not "far out from conventional jazz structure and instrumentation," but Anthony
Braxton and Jack DeJohnette played some standards together on a Pat Metheny
recording called "The Song Is You" or "Song Is You (Dig?)" (2OO5) with Chick
Corea, Lee Konitz, and Miroslav Vitous
http://www.amazon.com/Song-You-Dig-Anthony-Braxton/dp/B000BT7I9Q,
http://tinyurl.com/5vufro5.

Personally, since you ask, I'd like to hear Anthony Braxton and Henry Grimes,
and this has been proposed a couple of times by Prof. Braxton but has not yet
taken place.

Hello,

Haven't seen any mention on the list yet (cf. all the fuss that was
made over the Mosaic box) of this recently released box set of
reissued Black Saint/Soul Note material:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Anthony-Braxton-Complete-Remastered-Recordings/dp/B004VF\
YPEW/ref=pd_sim_sbs_m_h__2

With 8 CDs for £26, this looks like a bargain.

French Horn player extraordinaire Mark Taylor has been called "virtuoso
instrumentalist" by none other than Max Roach, and has just released his
beautifully moving album "At What Age" available at
http://www.marktaylormusic.net/fr_home.cfm. He describes the path he took from
playing European orchestral and chamber music to discovering the jazz tradition,
and "asking why it was never one of the French horn players who stepped up to
solo" to becoming one of the premier improvising French Horn virtuosi today.

Anthony Braxton - reeds
George Lewis - trombone
Richard Abrams - piano

Visionary composer and multi-reedist Anthony Braxton assembled a dream crew for
his appearance at the 1976 Newport Jazz Festival. With Muhal Richard Abrams on
piano, George Lewis on trombone, Dave Holland on bass, Barry Altschul on drums
and the leader on everything from alto sax to sopranino sax to contrabass
clarinet, this creative ensemble rolled out an eight-movement suite of
provocative music ("Composition No. 70") which he dedicated to Duke Ellington,
who had passed away two years earlier. ...

Last December Margaret Grimes posted a message to the group (#3910, if
anyone is interested) pointing out that a booking agent was offering
Braxton concerts in Europe in November 2011. I know it's not November
yet but any such concerts would have been announced by now so it's
clear that no promoter took up the offer (unless it was withdrawn for
some reason). Which in my view is not only a great shame but a bad
reflection on the workings of the live music industry in Europe.
Margaret rightly said in a follow-up message that tours are getting
sparser because of the economic situation, but honestly, if no way can
be found to bring Braxton to Europe, then something is wrong with the
way concerts are booked.

And Margaret, in case you're wondering – no, I didn't talk to Porgy &
Bess about bringing Braxton to Vienna. I didn't see it as my place to
do so, and if well connected, reputable promoters and venues don't
want to put on Braxton concerts when they are being offered to them,
then it's their loss.

Maybe Kyoko has some information to offer about this, though I know Anthony
Braxton's bookings are not her usual area of involvement, or maybe Jason
Guthartz has. They are both in this group. There is nothing shown for
upcoming concerts in Europe on http://restructures.net/ABcalendar.htm or on
http://tricentricfoundation.org/foundation/events.

I think Anthony addresses the issue in that NYT article when he says:

“This is a somewhat frustrating time cycle for me, in the sense that I
> rarely work anymore,” he said. “My work has been marginalized as far as the
> jazz-business complex is concerned, or the contemporary-music complex.”

Beyond that, I have no further information.

Hope to see many of you at Roulette this week!
