Dear Mr Arkenstone,
I would like to ask your permission to use some of your music (Yosemite from
the Narada group). I am one of the physicists of the ATLAS collaboration. You
can find out more about us here:
ATLAS is a huge detector being built to conduct research on particle physics
near Geneva, Switzerland. It is a non-profit organization, subsidized by
various scientific organizations to conduct basic research on the origin of
matter. I am the editor of our internal newsletter called ATLAS e-news. You can
see the latest edition here:
http://atlas-service-enews.web.cern.ch/atlas-service-enews/index.html
Last week, some of our collaborators saw the end of many years of hard work
when they finally lowered a large piece of equipment called the “Small
Wheels” (you should see the Big Wheels!) all pre-assembled and down into
a cavern 100 yards below. Pr George Brandenburg from Harvard, one of your
fans, made a short movie of this event and added your music to it to give it a
grandiose effect. We would like to ask for your permission to use it at no
cost. We are not making any profit from it and would have no objection if
you’d like to use our newsletter to advertise your own music. Let us know
if you have any objections to that. The website has not been advertised publicly
yet and if you object, we will remove the sound track. It will be sent to about
3200 members of the ATLAS collaboration plus about 200 friends of this project.
Cheers, Pauline Gagnon.
