Calling out to the drumming community:
Fall has arrived. One plus of fall is sitting next to a warm fire,
the best way to enjoy a warm fire is with a drum, and that joy only
increases as others join. The Paralounge Drum Gathering is November
17-19 2006, at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak,
Florida. The event is great for both new and experienced drummers.
The workshops are geared towards both skill levels. Buddy Helm is
providing instruction on Advanced Fire Dance drumming and Meditation
and Spiritual Healing with the drum. Jana Broder will direct a
Facilitated Drum circle (beginners and experienced drummers enjoy Ms.
Broder's workshop, she teaches fun rhythms in ways that are easily
understood). The highlight of the Gathering is a performance by TAM
TAM CONGO featuring Master Drummer Thobos Lubamba. In addition to
their performance they will also share their central African culture
through folk tales, and will give a workshop on African Drum and
Dance. This will be my third Paralounge experience and I am looking
forward to it, (will be popping a knot or two next week, lol). It is
nice to enjoy the warmth of friends. The hosts and participants are
genuine and welcoming people. I like the workshops, and have learned a
LOT from them. The night Drum Circles rock -- enough drums to feel
the sound. And then there is some of the best drumming just around
the different camp sites. People are not offended if you join in and
will more likely invite you to have a seat. Didgeridoo players please
bring your vibrations, a workshop on Didgeridoo is also given -- I
watched last time, but will be in on it this time -- I love that
sound. www.paralounge.net has event information.
