I received this announcment for an upcoming fundraiser in Decatur,
Ga. Bring your own drum and play along, entrance fee is $10.
Back by popular demand. We have another BEAT THE DRUM Charity show
coming up. It will be July 28th @ Bhojanic Indian Restaurant
(www.bhojanic.com)404-633-9233, 1363 Clairmont Rd., Decatur, GA
30033. Doors open @ 11:00 showtime is shortly thereafter.
Proceeds ($10.00 cover charge)go to Drumming for Success
(www.drummingforsuccess.com).
Proceeds go to Drumming for Success, Dr. Arvin Scott's motivational
youth program that teaches kids drumming & goal setting for success
in life. The kids that enter the program get a drum on loan, then
when they their reach their goals in the program the drum is theirs
to keep. BTD is Drumming for Success' main fund raiser, these
funds go to purchase the drums that are used and given to the kids,
among other organizational costs. We've had quite a few young
drummers come through that have the potential to be great musicians
and the program kept them out of trouble and able to focus on
something contructive like drumming.
Beat The Drum is an interactive drum show led by Dr. Scott.
Everyone is invited to play (if you want) with Dr. Scott and his
students. We have some extra drums available. We play traditional
West African, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Haitian... rhythms. We also do some
improv pieces and just let it go where it wants to. This is a semi-
structured show, so for those of you thinking endless drum circle
playing the same rhythm for hours on end, no worries! Dr. Scott
conducts the drummers and the attendees in order to keep that from
happening. If you don't want to play then just sit back, relax and
enjoy some Indian Tapas, a cold beer and some great
rhythms.
We raffle off door prizes from Vic Firth, Sabian, Latin Percussion &
gift donations from other people & businesses. The GRAND DOOR PRIZE
of the raffle will be A HANDCRAFTED WEST AFRICAN DJEMBE DRUM! So you
could go home with anything from, drum sticks, to shakers, caps,
gift certificates, CDs or a DRUM! Always good chances of winning
something!
Please fwd. this to anyone who you know that may be interested.
Come out, support a good cause, eat awesome Indian food, win
something cool, BEAT THE DRUM... it's cheaper than a shrink!
Let me know if anyone has questions or wants more info. I've got
videos of previous BTD shows, audio, pics, links...
Thanks for your time, take care all, see you there!
