All,
Good news related to Camp Camaraya in Atlanta - we have received a
traditional arts grant from the Georgia Council for the Arts! As a
result, we keep the pre-registration price of $325, at least through
9/15, after that, just check with me. We also have a special price of
$300 for GEORGIA RESIDENTS.
For your fee, you will receive lodging for 3 nights, food for 4 days,
a fantastic t-shirt that you will wear in the finale of the show, an
African costume, and an amazing amount of direct contact with some
phenomenal artists from Guinea, West Africa, a piece that you can
perform at home, and the opportunity to be a guest performer in a
public show at North Georgia College.
I have received some questions about the format, which is going to
be different from most other camps. We will only have formal
class/workshop structure on thursday evening and Sunday morning.
Other than that, everyone will rotate between Rehearsal sessions
with the artist they are working with and practice sessions with
your performing group to review what you have learned. Artists will
be available to help during practice sessions as well. In fact, also
because of the grant, I think we will have a very high
teacher:student ratio.
Also, if you play djembe and are thinking you won't get a chance to
shine, don't think that because I have dundun players coming out of
the woodwork and there's plenty of room for djembe players!!!
Almost every dancer has expressed interest in a percussive dance
piece, so it looks like we will definitely be offering that as an
option to all of the dancers.
