Join the African Performing Arts Association at Camp Camaraya in
North Georgia!
For details see www.africanperformingarts.org/news.html
The fee has been held at $300 for Georgia Residents, $325 for others
because we have received a grant from the Georgia Council for the
Arts, and group discounts are also available! The $300 includes
lodging, food, a costume, a t-shirt, and all rehearsals and the
performance.
Artists include: Youssouf Koumbassa, Mamady Sano, Marietou Cisse (if
you haven't met her, she is amazing with percussive dance, which is
what she will be teaching), Aly Camara, Ismael Bangoura and more.
The format of this camp is that all participants will be preparing
for a live, public performance on Saturday night at North Georgia
College and State University. Everyone will participate in one to
two "scenes" of the performance as well as in the finale. Everyone
will be working closely with the artists to rehearse and practice
what they have learned.
Arrive at 4pm on Thursday, if at all possible, so you can avoid the
Atlanta traffic. We will start Thursday night with classes to learn
the finale rhythm and song. Friday will be classes all day for the
different scenes and singing classes in the evening, plus I heard
that Youssouf wants me to buy a sheep or goat so we can have a big
barbecue in the night (I will bring some corn and potatoes to grill
for the vegetarians!). Saturday will be final practices, and then we
will head to the theater in the afternoon for dress rehearsals. The
show is at 8 pm and we will come back and relax, sing, play gongoma,
see if we have any more barbecue to cook!! Then Sunday morning we
will have crazy classes with all of the instructors before we
adjourn around mid day.
Please contact me if you have any questions at all - since this is
our first time and a new concept, we are really looking to include
as many folks who want to come as we can, so we will do our best to
work with you! I am at 404/909-3036 or
info@.... If you email this address, I can
only check it in the evenings.
Thanks!
