"The essence of a melody does not lie in its notes;
it lies in the relationships between the notes,
in the intervals, frequencies, and rhythms."
-Fritjof Capra
"Relationship... is the mirror in which you discover yourself. Without
relationship you are not; to be is to be related; to be related is
existence. You exist only in relationship; otherwise you do not exist;
existence has no meaning. It is not because you think you are that you come
into existence. You exist because you are related; and it is the lack of
understanding of relationship that causes conflict."
- Jeddu Krishnamurti "Freedom from the Known"
"Hospitable people are also good listeners, which explains why listening
has long been considered one of the most important habits to cultivate if
we wish to get closer to God. In my own life I've found that when I am able
to listen carefully enough to anyone, listen to them with my full heart,
then the walls of separation come crumbling down. Martin Buber believed
that such *active listening* is not only the secret to fulfilling
relationships between people, but a vital passageway to faith."
- Phillip L. Berman in The Journey Home
"Medicine, to produce health, has to examine disease;
and music, to create harmony, must investigate discord."
- Plutarch
"It is not a personal affront to you when someone is being discordant, it
is a measure of his pain. He's showing you how much he hurts, and how much
compassion he needs. But keep in mind, too, that not all victims are
innocent. In a certain karmic sense, no victims are innocent, but that
doesn't mean we shouldn't help them, for it is our fate to exist in a
relation to them, and how we behave determines our own karma. But we should
give help in a way that does not extend our attachment to low vibrations.
That means we should give what we would expect to get, good or bad, in the
same circumstance, and begin with the knowledge that all beings are equals.
- Thaddeus Golas in "The Lazy Man's Guide to Enlightenment"
"Meaning can only be understood in relation to its environment. Therefore,
the words only make full sense in context... There are no absolutes, there
is no meaning without relationships, everything is not only interacting but
interdependent. The kahunas use this idea to help give a person a
powerfully secure sense of significance, while at the same time teaching
him that to heal himself is to heal the world, and to heal the world is to
heal himself. This is not a loss of individuality, but an understanding
that individuality itself is a relationship with the environment.
- Serge King in "Kahuna Healing"
"If everything is connected to everything else, then everyone is ultimately
responsible for everything. We can blame nothing on anyone else. The more
we comprehend our mutual interdependence, the more we fathom the
implications of our most trivial acts. We find ourselves within a luminous
organism of sacred responsibility."
- Laurence Kushner in Invisible Lines of Connection
"All nature is art, unknown to thee;
All chance, direction, which thou canst not see;
All discord, harmony, not understood.
All partial evil, Universal Good;
And, spite of pride, in erring reason's spite,
One truth is clear, Whatever is, is right."
- Pope
"In music as in love,
pleasure is the waste product of creation."
- Igor Stravinsky
"Music is making manifest to our dull ears
the divine harmony of the universe,
and through music we read the universal."
- Elbert Hubbard
