DOWN FOR FIVE THANKS YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!!!
We want to send a big THANK YOU out to everyone that supported Down For Five on this last Cain's show!!! We sold a total of 83 tickets and 61 of those were sold in Bartlesville! !! Due to all of your support, there were only two bands that sold more tickets than we did! There were a lot of great bands selling tickets to this show and we feel very fortunate to have gotten a decent time slot on the Main stage(8pm) and it's all because of your support! Thank you SO much!!
Congratulations to Heather Baker of Tulsa, who was the winner of Janna Jordan's Ibanez S470 guitar! You can see a video of the drawing at www.downforfive.com click on the "News" link at the top.
Down For Five will be going in to pre-production for a new EP after the holidays so we won't be doing very many, if any, shows for a while. We are looking forward to having something new to offer! Stay tuned and we'll keep you posted on our progress.
I'M BACK FROM MY TRAVELS AND READY TO JAM!!!
Well, I hit 9 states this time, three blizzards in Utah and a snow storm in New Mexico and I made it back in one piece! That was one hell of a drive! I saw some breathtakingly beautiful country!
The first three nights I spent in Estes Park, Colorado with family. While I was there we visited the famous Stanley Hotel where Steven King wrote The Shining and they filmed the scary as hell remake for TV there as well! Then, on to Las Vegas for a night and stayed with an old friend I hadn't seen in about 13 years! Went out and grabbed a beer, got some rest, and finally made my way out to Los Angeles the next day and met up with my pal Jack Tracy(Aka; Jack The Actor, Aka; Mack Daddy Jack) We hit all the have-to-see places over the next three
days including The Pacific Ocean, Venice Beach, Hollywood and all that entails, like Hollywood Blvd, The Sunset Strip and I even went rollin' down Rodeo with a pocket full of...um....change! ? Saw the Walk Of Fame and hung out at the Whiskey a Go-Go, The Ritz and The Rainbow bar and Grill where I met Ron Jeremy, Mike Inez(Alice In Chains, Ozzy) and got a picture(sort- of) with Dweezil Zappa!
After that I headed back to Vegas to hang out with my good friend Rob a little longer and take in the sights in Vegas one more night, we had a great home-cooked meal consisting of brick-oven baked chickens he raised himself and stuffed bell peppers filled with buffalo meat, exotic rice and lentils. Later we hit the strip and the Palms where T.J. and the band met Vinnie Paul(Pantera) a few days earlier. I didn't get so lucky, but that's ok I've met him already anyway ;-)> Rob saved the best for last and took me to the coolest place in Vegas, The Artisan! It's probably the only hotel in Vegas that you can't gamble in! VERY COOL! It's also a wedding chapel, but I decided against that, the waitress just wasn't my type, lol.
From Vegas I headed out to Mesquite, Nevada to meet up with T.J. and the band and jam a little. I stayed up and hung out for a while but I was pretty wiped out from Vegas so I got some rest and headed for the north rim of the Grand Canyon the next day. Unfortunately the North rim was closed for winter so I headed to the South rim(what a beautiful drive that was!), got in and made my way around the park just as the sun was setting, it was beautiful but awfully cold!
Barely made it to Albuquerque that night, the weather sucked! I got a cheap motel and rested up for the drive home. Woke up to a snow storm and had to drive 45mph through the mountains, but I made it home ...well, to the Solo, safe and sound by around 10 or 11pm Monday night. Then on to a nice welcome home jam at Doc's with some of the boy's from Fist Of Rage. Good times, good times!!!
Please be sure to help us spread the word about our shows...see you there!!!

WE SURVIVED FREAKERS BALL!!!
Thanks to those of you that came out to show your support at Freakers Ball on Halloween, we really appreciate it. It was a good night over all and a lot of fun for sure. It's always nice playing shows with local bands. I would like to go out more often and support some of these local acts but it seems like I'm always playing somewhere, and if I'm not, sometimes it's nice to just take a day off, stay at home and enjoy it. So when shows like this come along where we can play with a lot of the local acts I cherish the moment. It's nice to be able to network with, and get to know the other bands and just generally see who all is out there locally.
There were some great costumes this year in the $1000.00 costume contest! I did surprisingly well! The people who knew who I was dressed as seemed very excited! I didn't win anything, but I was in the top 5 over all, which was plenty good enough for me! I will be posting some pics on my myspace page soon http://www.myspace.com/12509263
SUPER-BUSY WEEK AHEAD!!!
Wednesday I will be playing with Hell or High Water at the Solo Club and shortly after we are done playing T.J. McFarland http://www.myspace.com/tmcfarland and a couple members of The Effects http://www.myspace.com/theeffectswill be stopping by the Solo to pick me up and we are headed straight to Council Bluffs, Iowa to play a big show and do a radio interview at Whiskey Roadhouse http://www.whiskeyroadhouse.com/ where Leon Russell will also be playing the very next night! We are going to be leaving early the next day but I'm hoping I'll get to meet him again and show him pics from Halloween! Wish me luck! Friday night Hell or High Water will be back at the Tallgrass Saloon in Pawhuska,
Oklahoma(yes, we WILL be there this time, I called to confirm it) at 9pm. Then Saturday I'm off to Ponca City, Oklahoma to play another show with T.J. McFarland and friends at the Rocking Horse and then it's right back here in B'ville to play at church early Sunday morning! So don't bother calling me on Monday or Tuesday....needless to say, I will be sleeping!!!

I am dressing up for Halloween this year!!!
I am going to be the great Leon Russell as seen on this video in 1970!
I have been doing a lot of research on Leon lately and have found myself completely hooked on his music, and completely impressed by his accomplishments. Oh, how I would love to play drums for him someday!!! I was fortunate enough to meet Leon at one of his birthday bashes in Tulsa a couple of years ago but it was only a short hello and a hand shake. However, I am playing in Council Bluffs, Iowa next week and Leon is playing the very same place on the very same stage the next night!! I know a few of his band members pretty well and I am hoping to get to hang out with them a little before we have to head out. I am planning to take some pictures of me in my Halloween duds to show him if I am lucky enough to get to meet and chat with him again. I'll keep you posted on how that turns out. In the meantime if you're interested here's a little info about
Leon... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leon_russell
FYI: I hope he doesn't mind me telling this but, John Galley who plays keyboards here in Bartlesville with all the locals was Leon's organ player back in the 70's, he played on some of Leon's biggest hits, one being Tightrope and John has played for some other big names as well. It's always a privilege to play with John, he is a great guy and great player!

MY PERSPECTIVE ON THE TULSA OILERS THEME SONG RECORDING PROCESS
I have had a lot of people asking about the details involved in the recording process of the new Tulsa Oilers theme song "Let's Go!" So I figured I would give a rundown as best I can of what took place and how it all came about.
From the little bit of info I have gathered from the other DFF members, the whole idea came around the time that Pantera wrote and recorded the theme song for the Dallas Stars. Most of Down For Five's members at the time being avid hockey fans(Fyi, DFF is slang for a 5 min major or 5 Minutes in the penalty box) thought they should write a theme song for their favorite hometown hockey team as well. So "Let's Go!" was born.
The Oilers used Down For Five's theme for the '05-'06 season at the Tulsa convention center. Then when the new BOK center was built, Down For Five was approached to re-record and re-vamp the Oilers theme for use in the '08-'09 season and possibly beyond, in addition to filming a video for the opening game sequence.
Syke and I showed up at Armstrong Recording Studio in Tulsa on September 16th 2008 around 11am and I was introduced to the owner Stephen Egerton(who also recorded Down For Five's first album "Time Has Come.") and we immediately started talking drums. Stephen plays guitar but also loves playing the drums as well. I noticed this great looking drum set he had set up there and as I was inspecting it he started to tell me a little about it. Stephen goes on to tell me it was a gift from The Alkaline Trio's drummer! I guess the AT's drummer started his own custom drum company and after taking his first production kit out on tour he was talking to Stephen about his love for playing the drums and his need for a good kit. So the AT's drummer being a huge fan of Stephen's work as the guitar player for "The
Descendants" and "All" which were big influences on The AT, he decided to send Stephen his first production kit as a gift!
The first couple of hours were spent setting up drums, miking and getting a good sound. After a little experimentation we decided to use my Ludwig bass drum and toms, but I ended up using the Alkaline Trio's snare drum and a set of $3000.00 Meinl cymbals and Hi-hats Stephen had also received as a gift from another friend in the music biz! Wow, those things sound great! You can't really tell how great they sound on the compressed versions of the song on the Internet because of the low bit rate. But they really do shine in a loss-less format on a good system.
Once we got the drum sounds squared away, it was time to start recording! Janna and Scott couldn't make it till later that evening so Syke and I started by laying some reference vocal and guitar tracks down(complete with a guitar solo done by Syke on vocals, it was hilarious! :) so I would have something to play along with to know where I was in the song. We didn't have much time at all to rehearse the song before taking it in the studio and Syke and I had came in with some fresh ideas, so it was almost as if we were learning it as we went along. We found out later that we were both secretly afraid that when Janna and Scott showed up that we were going to have the structure all wrong. We pushed forward and to our surprise we had the drum tracks completely done, well before 5pm! We took a
lunch break and resumed that evening, meeting Janna and Scott there.
You could have cut the tension with a knife when they were giving what we had done a first listen. It sure was a happy moment when we realized for sure by their response that we had gotten the structure correct and they were stoked about the sound we had gotten. Syke's mouth-solo sure got a laugh! We joked about how we should just keep that in there instead of having Janna do one. I'd still like to hear the finished product with it in there just for a good laugh.
Janna set up and got a killer guitar sound using two different guitar amps and cabinets. She used her rig and also a really nice ultra-expensive rig that Stephen had on hand(I'm guessing it was a gift from someone famous :) for the second guitar part. Janna and Scott recorded all their guitar and bass parts that evening and it all went very smooth as far as I know. I was tearing down drums, loading and separating my gear into my flight cases for the Dakotas trip while Scotty was recording. The next day Syke went back and finished his vocal parts by himself and also added the siren and whistle. That evening after Scott and Janna did their background harmony vocals they had some people from our Down For Five's on-line forum and I believe, some staff from the BOK
center come out to do all the claps and chants. Unfortunately I couldn't be there. It was my birthday and I was playing my weekly gig at The Solo Club in Bartlesville with one of my other bands "Hell or High Water."
The next day was reserved for mixing and mastering and again I wasn't able to make that, due to my trip to the Dakota's with T.J. McFarland so I don't have any info there either but all in all that's pretty much how things went down from my point of view. It was a fun process and I'm super proud of what we ended up with! A special thanks to the Tulsa Oilers and to Stephen Egerton at Armstrong Studio for doing what he does! You can listen to the finished product at www.myspace. com/downforfive or you can hear it at all of the Oilers home games this season at the new BOK center. We'll see you there!!!

HELL OR HIGH WATER @ TALLGRASS SALOON IN PAWHUSKA!!!
Hell or High Water will be back at the Tallgrass Saloon this Friday October 17th in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Show starts at 9pm . We hope to see you there!

TO THE DAKOTAS AND BACK!!!
Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota all in a matter of hours and we made it back in one piece! We had a really good time, met some great people and made lots of new friends!
We left Tulsa around midnight, drove all night and arrived in Watertown, South Dakota about noon the next day. Loaded in and set up in a great room! As a matter of fact, Merle Haggard is playing that same stage very soon! We got checked into the hotel and finally got a little sleep before our gig. We played and stayed there for two days and I have to say, it was super nice to be able to finish playing and just walk off the stage and grab a drink on the way to my own private hotel room and not have to tear anything down. I think I could get used to that real quick!
Next we headed to Fargo, North Dakota to stay at a friends house, find a fill-in bass player and hopefully book some more gigs while we were waiting for our next scheduled dates. It was a good week, we saw the sights, went out on the town, ate at some of the locally owned restaurants, and did our best to book some gigs.
We picked up a local entertainment newspaper and looked for the local "open jams" and decided we would go look for a bass player. The first jam we hit was in downtown Fargo and the players there were really good! T.J. and I sat in with them for a while and later found out the bass player was previously Martina McBride's bass player! He was great, but unfortunately he was already booked or we would have snagged him up.
So we headed off to the next jam and stayed there quite a while. We really cut loose at this one and had some fun! We ended up playing quite a bit that night with lots of different musicians, we played some Doors, Stones and even some Zeppelin! Honestly it probably looked more like a circus than a jam night toward the end! We were really cuttin' it up. The locals sure got a kick out of my stick tricks, and I was putting it on thick that night!
(I found out some interesting information recently. The guy who hosted that jam was one of the local talents that played the show in Moorhead Minnesota that Buddy Holly, Richey Valens and the Big Bopper were on their way to play but didn't make due to their tragic and untimely demise in a plane crash on February 3rd 1959, often quoted as "The day the music died.")
We found a bass player, switched numbers and headed off to The Hub, 6 bars in one! And man was it fun! We actually hit The Hub two nights in a row! Guess we couldn't get enough of it. The country bar, Cadillac Ranch is a lot like Coyote Ugly but somehow cooler. The girls dance on the bar and throw out free hot dogs across the room to everyone. Another one of my favorites at The Hub was The Monkey Bar it's a metal music bar complete with headbanging- on-the-bar dominatrices fully equipped with whips, chains and Jagermeister! Crazy! And all while listening to Pantera! Heaven? No,... but it was upstairs!
Next we were off to play our last two gigs in Hankinson, North Dakota at another casino. The place we played was not nearly as nice as the other casino's venue but the casino/hotel itself was way bigger and there were a lot more people so it turned out to be quite a bit of fun as well. I don't think I went outside the whole time I was there, it was a pretty big place and lots to do.
We left for home on Sunday about 1pm and drove what seemed like forever till we decided we were going to stop in Kansas City for some grub. We were starving and all craving Chinese food so we went out of our way to hit PF Changs! Where I confiscated some chop sticks so I can practice my technique. I just feel that a drummer should be able to 'be one with the sticks...grasshopper', and I'm just not. We didn't get to Tulsa and get unloaded till about 2:30am and I still had to drive another hour home in my own car, so needless to say I was ready for bed when I got here! Anyway, I'm rested up and anxious to see everyone, and there's a ton of stuff going on, so you should all just follow me around all week and join in the fun! ;-)>
NEW CHRISTIAN PARKS VIDEO!!!
Those of you that have been on this list for a while might remember the story of me getting a phone call from someone quite some time ago, whom I had never met, that wanted me to go into the studio and record a few tunes with them. He was wanting to put together a decent demo before he headed off to Nashville to try his luck in the music biz. Well, that was Christian Parks.
I went to Oklahoma City on a whim, having no idea what to expect. Up to that point I hadn't actually met Chris, I only talked to him on the phone a little and had heard some acoustic demo versions of the songs he had sent me via e-mail.
All in all, it was a pretty quick process. As I sat up my drums while Chris was laying down what we call "trash tracks" so I would have something in the headphones to play along with. After that, Chris basically sat down in the drum booth with me, played a little acoustic guitar and wrote down where the changes were and we knocked it out.
Chris took that demo to Nashville as planned, and to my surprise he cut a video to one of the tracks I recorded with him! I was just stopping by his myspace the other day to say hi and ran into it so I thought I'd share. You can find the video at http://www.myspace.com/parkschristian (It's unlabeled, the name won't show up till after you've played it. There's two video's and it's the one on the top). It's called "California Dreams"

Sorry about the extra mail this week, but I just had a last minute booking come up. I will be playing drums for T.J. McFarland tonight(Friday August 22nd) at the Bartlesville Osage Million Dollar Elm Casino. I met T.J. a while back when he called me to do a couple of shows over at Grand Lake and we had such a good time we ended up playing another show shortly after that in Tulsa. Since then we have been trying to meld our schedules and book some more shows. I'll post more on that when the details get worked out. You can check out T.J.'s myspace and listen to his music at http://www.myspace.com/tmcfarland
CONGRESS OF A CROW'S TRAILER & GEAR STOLEN!!!
Good friends of ours, Tulsa band "Congress of a Crow" recently had their trailer and all their gear stolen and I thought I would post a copy of the bulletin they sent out on Myspace so we can help catch the bastards who did this!!!
Here is the list people. Please tell everyone you know that this crap has happened and maybe these 'people' will be brought to justice.

I will be filling in for Josh Raymer tonight while he's out on a world tour with Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey. Josh is a fellow Bartlesville drummer, and an incredible one at that! B'ville should be proud, I know I am! If you haven't caught one of Jesse's shows or heard his album, you really should do yourself a favor and do so! His album "Life's Ladder" deservedly won "album of the year" at last years Spotnik awards! It's one of those cd's you just can't bring yourself to take out of the cd player and no matter how many times you hear it, you never seem to get tired of listening to it! I absolutely love playing with Jesse and jump at the opportunity every chance I get! Hope you will come out to "Lola's at the Bowery" tonight(Friday August 8th) and have some fun with us! Lola's is a very up-scale venue/ restaurant located a couple blocks South of Cain's Ballroom on Main street in downtown Tulsa. Not sure what
the cover is but I assure you it's worth every penny! Check out Jesse's Myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/jesseaycock

DOWN FOR FIVE'S FIRST SHOW BACK, HOFF FAMILY BENEFIT SHOW A HUGE SUCCESS
We were absolutely blown away by the turnout and show of support on Friday night, May 16 at The Backyard Bar. It was our first live performance in nearly six months, but more importantly was a very special night to help raise funds for the Hoff family, who recently suffered the tragic loss of Danny Hoff, beloved husband, father, and also a true friend of Down For Five. Please continue to remember the Hoff family and show your support to them by sending donations via paypal to michelle@... to help with the cost of expenses incurred from the tragedy.
From the musical side of things, those of us in DFF getting to see that kind of turnout and response to the new material, as well as the old material, was nothing short of inspiring. There were also so many people that helped us in various ways for this show and to those of you, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making this first show back so special. We'll never forget it.
We return to the Backyard Bar on Friday, June 20 and again on Saturday July 19th. We look forward to seeing all of you again soon.
Please be sure to help us spread the word about these shows...see you there!!!
