Re: [BBSBasses] Proper singing

Thanks for the reminder, George, and right on! A great bass will sound like a
great lead at half throttle. (It helps to raise the eyebrows too.)

Good example: On the last page of Jim Arns' Hannukah Medley, Basses cover two
octaves within just a few bars. Your technique (and feel) should not vary over
that range. Maybe you can't make much sound on the low Eb, but forcing or
"pumping" won't improve your sound - you just make noise.

Put another way: Old age and treachery will defeat youth and enthusiasm. Every
time. ;-)

Happy Equinox!

I want to pass on a few things I've learned.

Remember these 3 words. TALL FORWARD FOCUS.

As a quartet bass, I have tried to muscle my way because I always
thought the bass had to pump

the sound out. Well guess what, now sing like a lead. Remember to
always lift the soft palete (done

as a yawn.) If you think tall vowels and bring the sound out just
above the eyes in the mask and

focus all your attention to your ears, learn to be a better listener

I guarantee your quartet sound will improve! Good Luck

The key to having enough breath is found in taking a large enough breath not just before the long passage, but the breath before it as well. Phil Richards...
