Well,
It seems that the guy I bought it from sent me the wrong power
supply. No big deal though. I went ahead and cut the sheild away from
the IC and it is soldered perfectly so I guess I won't have to worry
about that anyway. Now I am gonna get on eBay and see if I can locate
me a power supply that'll work with this thing.

Well, I finally got some disks to use with the BR-8 and now here lies the problem. Whenever I insert a disk it attempts to access it and makes a loud humming...

Adam,   You can buy the correct power supply from the Boss site, RolandUS. The BR-8 requires a powerful power supply, the typical ones you get from Radio...

It's possible that the drive is bad. Some of our members bought replacement drives cheap on EBay. The IC21 problem usually causes buttons to do incorrect...

Actually the power supply isn't that powerful. I looked on the back of the unit and it uses a 9v power supply. The trick is the amperage. It requires a 2 amp...

I beleive I said that the capacity (or amperage) will play a significant roll.  However you can't make 12 volts out of 9 volts....unless you have a "buck"...

Not sure about your BR-8, but mine only requires 9 volts, so the 13 could possibly kill it. Adam...

Go with the specs from the original or replacement power supply. Then there's no danger and it should work.   PAJeff ... From: Adam Wright...
