AHNENERBE: NACHT UND NEBEL, CD
(Autarkeia)
It is one more original record found in archives that, in “Autarkeia’s”
estimation, could not be forgotten and left unreleased. Particularly
unusually constructed, extremely suggestive, gloomy atmosphere of the
work could probably be defined as a result of synthesis of several
styles of electronic music. Powerful, striking and mysterious mood is
created by sounds of especially unconventional “dark ambient” and
“concrete” music, and sickly, distorted “monstrous-sound” consonances
call out gloomy and uneasy psychedelic emotions. Whole album savours of
mystery, anxiety and sensation as if something horrible is approaching
or happening. The album’s atmosphere, as well as legendary Ahnenerbe
institute, raises a lot of questions and presents no answers. It is an
impenetrable wail of “Nacht und Nebel”. For a few chosen it is the
openness of mystical science, and for all the rest it is horror,
anticipation and obscurity while trying to perceive with strained senses
what is actually happening in the catacombs of the institute full of
wandering shadows and oppressing hallucinations. Wolfram Sievers
(Reichsgeschäftsführer des Ahnenerbes), perhaps was the only one able to
reveal the mystery, but he disappeared after performing an uncanny death
ritual, and drew an indefeasible line between himself and those who want
to know, between those who ask and those who know the answers.
Album lasts for 32 min. 33 sec. It’s packed in a nontypical black
plastic DVD case. We recommend you to listen to “Nacht und Nebel” only
on Hi-fi stereo. Limited edition 288 and due to author order will be
never re-edited. What is amazing about this release, CD is covered with
special lackuer which smells like an almond. Do you recognize this
dangerous smell? [Autarkeia]

BALTIC FLOUR MILLS: S/T, CD-R
(Autarkeia)
Now "Baltic Flour Mills" is a well known and modern art gallery in
London. But it wasn't in 1997 when Darius Ciuta, the member of legendary
Lithuanian noise project NAJ and Arturas Raila, a well known video
artist, a present gallery "Baltic Flour Mills" was a forgotten and old
mill. Millions of rats ruled the place. In order to get into mill
premises, visitors had to sign a pact, which declared non-responsibility
for possible accidents. So, in 1997 two artists equipped with special
recording devices went to an dangerous trip through the mill in order to
record strange air waves and sounds of huge mechanisms. Later in a radio
studio, from the collected samples from the mill, "Baltic Flour Mills"
record was created. It consists of two long tracks. In those tracks
listeners can hear cold and urban "ambient" that sometimes is enriched
with special "noise" elements. Music construction methods remind of NAJ
album "Resituation" from the PURE series - incoming city sounds,
filtrated through mill concrete walls and metal mechanisms can be heard.
The background is fulfilled with children, which were never in that
mill, cries and sounds of opening the doors, which were locked for
years. Album mood towards the end of it is getting more and more
worried. Recordings create a grey and paleness sense of the surrounding
world. It reminds us that one day, now the fine gallery, will become
what it was a long before - a pale ghost in a dark London and instead of
the slogan on the walls - "Baltic Flour Mills", only "Alt Our Ills" will
remain.
Album "Baltic Flour Mills" lasts for 60 minutes. It's packed in a
special dark DVD box set. In album complex there is a CD video-postcard,
a 24-page inlay and a rare Autarkeia label's postcard. We recommend you
to listen to "Baltic Flour Mills" only on Hi-fi stereo. Limited edition
of 250 copies. [Autarkeia]

DONIS: VACUUM, CD (Autarkeia)
This is not the latest Donis' record. It was recorded in 1997, when
Lithuania was still in deepest electronic music crisis. "Vacuum" had
waited seven years for his real live in personal Donis' archive. The
album consists of only one long track, that could be ascribed to
"ambient' stylistics. Tough the sound of album proposes feeling of dark
emptiness, it can not be described as "dark ambient". By it's influence
"Vacuum" reminds "Coil's" ambient works that take you to the psychedelic
trip. Extremely low generator vibration in record doesn't allow the
feeling that you're high in the mountains to go out. The air is being
crossed by toneless and icy sound, music motives are deep and sharp.
Every stream of sound will work out as if you, the listener, are in a
trip of deep emptiness.
Album lasts for 65 minutes. It’s packed in a special black DVD box. We
recommend you to listen to “Vacuum’ only on Hi-fi stereo. Limited
edition 499 copies. [Autarkeia]

KOUHEI MATSUNAGA: COMPLICATED HIGH STILL NOW..., CD-R
(Autarkeia)
When Eastern Europe only starts discovering "noise" music, in Japan -
Meka of "noise' music, a new age of artists, naming themselves "post
noise", wave is arising. One of them - Kouhei Matsunaga, well know from
his split editions with Merzbow, constructed an interesting recording
named "Complicated high still now…" from his archive tracks. Album
consists of four tracks. Their totality makes an illusion of deep,
sometimes dark, psychedelic mood to the listener. Album starts with
silent and anxious track. The second one consists of prepossessing
electronic loops. At the time of hearing the record the listener
undoubtedly can recognise Japan music school. The third and the fourth
tracks, which are the longest, Kouhei starts to rage over using the best
Japan weapon - "noise". Noise itself is quite aggressive and reminds of
roughest Japan "noise" epoch creations but the construction of the sound
is different and characteristic only to Kouhei. "Complicated high still
now…" is undoubtedly Japan "post noise" music masterpiece.
Album lasts for 36 min. 30 sec. It’s packed in a nontypical red plastic
jewel case. We recommend you to listen to “Complicated high still now…”
only on Hi-fi stereo. Limited edition 211. [Autarkeia]

STILLSTAND: SYMBIOSEN, CD-R
(Tosom)
StillStand is the ambient side of Martin Steinebach, also the guy behind
Monoid (Rhythmic Industrial) and Conscientia Peccati (Ritual
Industrial). The new work takes StillStand in a new way. “Symbiosen” is
a little bit influenced by Monoid. Great and wonderful soundscapes are
combinated with discreeted rhythms structures. Imaginary sound pictures,
sometimes rough and dark, sometimes beautiful and innocent. [Tosom]
”After my previous releases as StillStand and the "Heimat" set from
beginning of 2001, "Symbiosen" is a new approach to abstract ambient
music. StillStand is still strictly synthetically music, atmospheres are
created and not imitated - but with "Symbiosen" new aspects are included
in the sound. While before sounds were the most important medium and
rhythm and melody were secondary, now all three aspects get their share
of influence in the tracks. There are beats and loops, melodic repeating
lines and spherical parts, all colliding inside of the tracks. This is
the concept of "Symbiosen": Using the methods of my project Monoid,
rhythm and distortion to influence the sound of StillStand and to
increase the range of possibilities. "Symbiosen" was recorded right
after "Heimat", where Monoid and Conscientia Peccati (my third project)
have been transformed to fit into an ambient concept - and I found it
most interesting how the sound of Monoid and the concept of StillStand
worked together. Now, after trying to bring this concept further into a
melting of ambient and industrial sounds, I think "Symbiosen" is more
accessible then the previous StillStand releases as there is more
activity, more movement. Calling the result "Symbiosen" (symbioses) made
sense as this is truly what it is all about.Similar projects dealing
with melting of my other projects are planned for the future.” (Martin
Steinebach, July 2001)
