previously as a limited 20 copy CDR edition from the Newsonic label. The
material on that release was so good that it seemed a shame to keep all
but twenty people from ever hearing it and this includes tons of extra
material, namely Howling Obsession Performed live. The mix of volumes,
nosie, ambient and patterned structures is remarkable here. For solid
stretches you'll hit that moment of transfixion that really good Aube or
Lull work can facilitate, where that one dark ear you have focuses on
the depths within the sound, trying to puzzle it out, watching the
pieces move and weave and change in unusual formations. Powerful stuff.
Dark, heavy, noisy walls of reverbrating sonics. Monstrous worlds of
hammer-heavy noise ambient building into chilled landscapes. One of the

Cornucopia is the premiere sound art project to hail from the island of
Puerto Rico. Claudio Chea and Jorge Castro have recorded numerous
drone-a-thons on CDR which have been released by small labels from New
York to Barcelona to Valencia, Le Mans and Mexico City. "C.works" is
their first full length on the CD format, and to celebrate, they have
asked for a little help from their friends. In all, fourteen other
artists were asked (and some even asked in themselves!) to use
Cornucopia's 37 minute track ".c." into their own composition. Two years
later, this is the end result.

Joe Colley as Crawl Unit, creating one of the most "ambient" Crawl Unit
works you will ever hear. World-sized clouds of staticy resonation,
clouds of cotton and salt booming slowly out over the planet.
Hammerfalls of texture. Sonic experiments at filling vast rooms. At
times the audio has a sudden and disarming spike, the sort of sound that
make speaker fanatics wince. But it stays just this side of dangerous,
serving instead to rattle the attention, to send an arrow into the heart
of whatever trance the tones have put you in. This is an old Manifold
Label release. And it was one that we had a demo cassette of for
literally years. We would put the cassette in and listen for pleasure
and then one day realized "why don't we release this if we like it so
much"?. The rest is history. Done in accordance with the Crawl Unit
esthetic that favors low-tech printing and hand-crafted visuals over
gloss. This is the perfect introduction to Crawl Unit, it seems to put a
lot of what Joe Colley's Crawl Unit project is about into a general

This American artists combine different styles of nowadays
postindustrial culture. Songs like CONTROL are a uncompromising attack
of harsh power electronics with a burning, corrosive intensity. Numbing
frequencies, uneasy drones, and low level pulsations with processed
vocals. Dark rumbling Death Industrial tracks with droning and
atmospheric sound layers mixed with samples andrhythms can also be found
on this release. Promising cut-ups, gloomy rumbling droning soundwalls
with echoing frequencies, give the songs a special character. The sound
material creates an atmosphere between dark, hopeless soundwalls and
aggressive noise assaults. From the beginnig to the end the CD never
looses its intensity. Tracks like Call To Arms, Control, D-Generation
Wasted, Pure Nothing speak their own language. The last track on the
album is eclusively remixed by Richard Schneider of Schloss Tegal. This
CD is a must for all lovers of Death Industrial and power electronics.

OCOSI: HERE AND LOATHING, CD

Step into the frenzied, rhythmic nightmare, ornamented scenes from
living life in the blurred shadows. From the wierd, small opening of the
disc, we fall deeper into 'Carrier', a strained, surreal signal from the
depths that dissolves into the horror-movie scenery of 'Insex'. About
seven other heavily crafted and chosen pieces flow and blast and
dissolve out into a lake of fire, the conclusion leaving the listener
hanging onto the edge of nothingness. Ocosi, for those who haven't been
sucked in yet, make creeping, sublime darkhop like Scorn but with
faster, edgier beats and more ambient downturns. Unexpected changes and
catchy patterns collide into unique forms. Those who enjoyed the Radius
Suck compilation, or Economi$ed will want to know that Ocosi or artists
in Ocosi probably made half of the tracks on the former and a quarter of
the sounds on the latter. These guys, Paul Molyneaux and Simon Smerdon
are probably the absolute best at this darkhop right now. Their releases
unfairly few and far between.

On the heels of the Nostromo record, which caused a major tremor in the
normally quiet realm of dark-drone fandom when it was released by UK
label Cold Spring in 2001, Dead Weather Machine continues
Multi-continental sound wizard Kevin Doherty's examination of dark,
moribund and mechanical sonic accidents in the world around us. Taking
small noises to extremes of power and imagination, Nostromo sought to
create an entire dark landscape from the first few minutes of the 1979
movie 'Alien'. Dead Weather Machine has..umm, lets just say more
"everyday" origins. In Kevins UK flat, there was a combination heater/ac
unit in the wall which was slowly giving out. It was clogged with dust
and apparatus inside seemed to be slowly dying. The odd, ever-changing
noises inside seemed to attest to a slow destruction of sorts, a gradual
disentegration. Recording the sounds out of pure interest at first, the
texture and inherent emotion of the sonic scraps began to suggest that
further treatment and documentation might be interesting. And so Dead
Weather Machine is an enticing descent into regions partially explored
by Lustmord, Thomas Koner and Asmus Tietchens in his driftier moods. In

Stunning dark drift, imagine an hour of uninterrupted material in the
vein of Koner's Permafrost. A remix/rework of the base material from
Dead Weather Mahcine. But not an ep, simply because it's too unique and
too resolute, a focused work that stands on its own in a huge way. This
disc is better described as a companion disc to the Dead Weather Machine
work, it's a nearly hour-long, total dark-ambient retreatment of the
Dead Weather Machine material. The ensuing sound is dense, textural and
yet minimal in its execution. We were originally going to issue this as
a 100 copy ltd ed cdr to go with the regular release but when we heard
the material we decided it would be a crime to limit this work to only
100 copies. It had to be heard. In a slim sleeve with mylar/plastic

is different to the “Absorb” release. It is very dark, like the early
THO-SO-AA material, but with a lot of new influences. You find drones,

"Introduction for a demon", "It's a nightmare", "Below peace &
happiness", "A perfect collapse", "Darkness" speak their own language.
