AIDAN BAKER: PERIODIC, CD-R

Periodic features two lengthy new elemental droneworks from Canadian
guitar deconstructionist Aidan Baker (also of NADJA), Periodic 1 (29:55)
and Periodic 2 (26:32). Baker constructed these pieces from manipulated
and damaged 4-track recordings of electric and acoustic guitars (as well
as drums) that have been re-assembled into monstrously slow-moving epics
of rolling feedback tides. Incandescent storm clouds gather in the
distance flecked with shafts of pink light and omnipresent tape hiss
shot from pulsating and rippling speaker cones suspended high in the
earth's atmosphere. Deeply buried drum rhythms surface amdist gradually
building layers of delicate, gossamer skree and subterranean grinding. A

This is a wise pairing between the two completely versatile and
experienced electronic manipulators. There are a host of totally warped
sounds like I?ve never heard from either KK Null or Alexei Borsov.
Sticky electronic pitter-patter leads way to tinkling sine tones and
cryptic foreign terrain. When they integrate some guy mumbling, it truly
sends me back to the seminal sound of lost souls that became Throbbing
Gristle. But this is not all-dark cerebral jargon, there is a lighter,

ARC: THE CIRCLE IS NOT ROUND, CD

ARC formed spontaneously in 2000 at a performance at The Ambient Ping,
Toronto's long-running live ambient/experimental music series. ARC is a
trio of Aidan Baker (guitars, flutes, tapeloops), Richard Baker
(drumkit, percussion), & Christopher Kukiel (percussion). Their music is
a mixture of Popul Vuh acoustic compositions, Pink Floyd's Ummagumma
era, Voice of Eye or Subarachnoid Space..., with dense and organic
drones and hypnotic ethnic rhythms. ARC's sound is centred on the
melodic loops, textures, & samples provided by heavily-effected guitar &
other melodic instruments. This is overlaid with tribal-esque rhythms
provided by various percussive instruments; drum kit, djembe, tabla,
wood blocks, etc. With this combination, they create a roiling tapestry
of both rhythmic & ambient sound, a sound simulataneously prim(ev)al &
avant-garde. ARC, regular performers in Toronto and Montreal, have

Cyberzone-Writer Tommaso Lisa! So the album was recorded using as
conceptual reference Tom's "neuro-poems" collection REBIS. Short spoken
fragments of the texts are treated and inserted in a sonic structure
built with minimal, strangely sincopated pseudo-rytmhs and sharp pulsing
noises. The effect of those spcken texts is really disqieting, a very
severe & obscure release, different from all previous Bad Sector albums!
In the background, Bad Sector's trademark chilling micro-melodies
completes an upsetting, allucinated but crude vision of our "Collapsing

Degeneral was formed in the Siberian city of Kemerovo in 2001 and has
already recorded several albums none of which has been issued to present
day, so "After the World" can be called the first official release of
the project. The album sounds like a soundtrack to a mental trip through
the lifeless spaces of the world outlived electro-mechanical apocalypse.
First monotonous droning tracks unobtrusively bring listener's
perception into a laid-back and meditative state. But the sound
gradually condenses, saturation of sonic events grows and music takes
mechanical features of sinister atmosphere of a desolated factory
working for hundreds of years without human assistance. Thunder of
workshops, buzz of power substations and clanks of unknown mechanisms
flow together into united psy-noise symphony. By the end of the disc
anthropomorphical assotiations naturally pale and give way to abstract
cosmic visions, provoked by skilfully combined avalanche-like noise
waves and looped melodic lines.

Experimental music compilation "Convergence" presents new tracks from
THEODOR BASTARD, VOLGA, NOTCHNOI PROSPECT, FIZZARUM etc. Seeming to be
stylistically heterogeneous music (glitch, clicks-n-cuts, IDM, dark
ambient, neoclassical, power noise and even trip-hop) it turns out to
have a lot in common - all the musicians are united by an experiment, an
attempt to break through the borders of directions once defined by
someone. General musical mood of the compilation is also vague - gloomy,
mysterious but opening a light perspective.
CONVERGENCE (latin 'convergens' - together, completely, strongly), the
process of coming together or the state of having come together toward a
common point. In biology the adaptive evolution of superficially similar
structures in unrelated species subjected to similar environments. In
ethnology - development of similar characters in different cultures. In
sociology (convergence theory 1960-80) - the coming closer of 2
different social systems (capitalism and socialism). CONVERGENCE OF THE
EYES - movement of the two eyes so coordinated that the images of a
single point fall on corresponding points of the two retinas.

WANDER: S/T, CD

Wander are Freek Kinkelaar and Frans de Waard, also known as Beequeen.
Since changing Beequeen's musical direction in the summer of 2000
(drones out and 'popmusic' in). However, since they both love drone
music, they founded Wander in 2001. In Wander they explore drone music
in it's widest possible form, with each new release exploring a specific
concept. Wander will release their music on various formats, but every
format only once. Each release is called Wander, and there is a total
absense of any information on the cover. So far they have released a 10"
on their own Plinkity Plonk label, a LP for En/Of, a split 7" on
Plinkity Plonk (a split single with Beequeen), a CDR on XZF and a 7" on
Edition... and a forthcoming split 7" recorded in collaboration with
Andrew Liles.
The material was recorded in the analogue studio Geluidswerkplaats
Extrapool in late 2004 and early 2005, using a wide variety of vintage
synthesizers (juno 60, korg MS20, roland SH 102 and Arp synthesizer) and
a Philicordia organ. The four long pieces breath an atmospheric,
pastoral sound of slow and deep evolving drones. The CD was mastered by
Raymond Steeg of The Legendary Pink Dots' fame. The images on the cover
and the disc were made with the help of Elise de Waard. Released in a

Since the 1970’s Z'EV worked in a variety of media and was one of the
founders of the cultural movement now known as ‘Industrial’. After
