New arrivals in the BSAH distribution on-line store (31.1.2007)

AEMAE: THE HELICAL WORD, CD
(Isounderscore)
First record from longtime AQ pal / customer Brandon Nickell aka Aemae,
two long years in the works and we dare say it was well worth the wait.
A gorgeous and exquisitely crafted abstract free noise drone record.
Dark and deliriously dense, a perfect amalgamation of the experimental
dronework of the Hafler Trio, the sweeping skreescapes of Sunrooof! and
Vibracathedral Orchestra and the abstract minimalism of Mirror or
Jonathan Coleclough. As well, this has plenty of distinctly unique sonic
elements. Heavily reverbed chimes and bells are smeared into a twinkling
fog, slowly thickening into a dense slab of electrical impulses, woven
together so tightly it resembles a buzzing ball of hornets, a throbbing
thrumming drone. Strange steel drum like electronic pulses, an alien
gamelan, pickes out a tranquil melody beneath swooping and blooping
spaciness, sheets of industrial shuffle, scrape and rumble, leaving
sparkling trails of dense and complex almost IDM skitter in their wake,
albeit wrapped in thick gauzy veils of warm reverberant flutter. All
stretched into distant, soft focus soundscapes of warbling whir and
creaking ambience. Quite lovely and sublime! [Aquarius Records]

PRICE: 12 € / $

ARASTOO: THREE, LP
(Isounderscore)
Arastoo is another one of those outfits (persons, actually) who has
loads of releases out, but all of them are ultra limited and thus
seemingly impossible to get. The last (and only) thing we had from
Arastoo was a gorgeous cd-r released on Dielectric records, and now of
course out of print. So we were super excited when AQ pal Brandon
decided to release a brand new Arastoo on his label Isoundcore. it's
still limited of course, but we managed to get a bunch, although we
imagine these won't last long. Arastoo is Arastoo Darakhshan, and is
another in the brotherhood of the drone, deftly exploring a warm and
wonderful drone drenched ambience. Three is a series of deep cavernous
drones, warm and rich, not so much rumbling and sort of washing over you
like the sun drenched surf. But this is NOT sunny, this is like a sky
devoid of sun, a blanket of rich blackness, permanent nighttime.
Occasionally punctuated by haunting reverbed tones, presumably the sound
of struck metal. Creepy buzzing alien melodies drift by like a broken
trumpet or some sort of shortwave guitar. The heart of the record is a
massive, slow building ultra dense drone, layers of low-end get thicker
and thicker, while additional layers are added slowly and subtly, each
of those new layers, slightly higher in pitch, the result is a rich
swirl of strange overtones and hunting ghostlike melodies. Gorgeous.
Housed in an amazing gloss black on matte black sleeve. [Aquarius Records]

PRICE: 12 € / $

IRMOLOGION: DYNATOS, CD
(RAIG)
DYNATOS is the original Greek word which means loud, mighty, possible,
potent, potential, powerful, robust, strong, vigorous… Though this term
was often used in Byzantium legal manuscripts dated to IX-X centuries to
define big land-lords or significant persons in imperial ecclesiastical
hierarchy, there is a hypothesis that a major criteria of belonging to
dynatos was not property itself but enormous temporal and spiritual
power which one had got from hands of the Lord.
This haunting work should be percept as a sermon on what a person is
able to do but chooses not to do, on what is possible for humans to do
but they don’t want to do, and on what is impossible for them to do even
if they want to choose it. The anonymous masters choose to preach in the
language of electro-acoustic music instead of the language of words
which mean nothing in the tempted world.

The album comes in a special packaging designed by ZonderZond: cd
wrapped up in a gorgeous silk piece of cloth, held together inside a
laced hard book folder (Ltd x350).

PRICE: 12 € / $

JOAN SILVER PIN: CHIAROSCURO, CD
(RAIG)
Papaver somniferum, its history begins with the ancient Sumerians who
referred to the flower as a plant of joy. The knowledge of the plant was
passed throughout the nations and ages. The ancient Egyptians promoted
use of opium as a sleep aid, and their pharaohs were buried with opium
artifacts. Numerous ancient Greek gods were portrayed wreathed with or
carrying poppies. Hippocrates made frequent mention of the poppy for its
hypnotic effects and nutritive value. Opium was largely used as a social
drug in India and China. In Europe, waned during the Dark Ages, the use
of opium was rediscovered in XVI century: the smoking of opium was
discovered; prior to this opium was taken orally – the practice of
smoking opium is still considered barbaric by some cultures. During 17th
and 18th centuries opium became the primary trade commodity between
Europe, India and China. In 1803, F.Seturner discovered the active
ingredient of opium by dissolving it in acid then neutralizing it with
ammonia: the resulting product was morphine. In 1874, C.Write created
heroin by boiling morphine over a stove. Opium and its products
consumption reached an all time high in Britain in 1830...
Well, the stories told by JSP are as dramatic and mysterious as the
history of poppies itself. Incorporating electronics, traditional
instrumentations, esoteric vocalizations as well as atypical arrangement
and production techniques, «Chiaroscuro» sonic landscapes can earn the
praise among a diverse variety of different audiences. The group relies
most often on the experimental ambient aesthetic with subtly changes in
content and timbre, mixing a warm, clean fusion of deliberate analog
synths, gentle guitars, stark trumpet, smart percussive bits, loose and
forceful vocal improvisations. An accomplished post-rock architecture of
the various elements from synth-music, avant-garde, jazz and rock: the
ability to create quite layered and complex, the more you listen to it,
modern electro-acoustic psychedelic masterpieces becomes apparent from
the very album beginning. Enjoy! [RAIG]

PRICE: 10 € / $

LEBENSWELT: S/T, CD
(RAIG)
Not only LEBENSWELT is a new name in the underground industrial scene,
but also the releases which the trio put out under various names have
always been extremely limited and thus hard to get for the audience.
This self-titled limited edition album is both an official debut by the
project and a perfect introduction to their creative activity as it
collects the most intriguing recordings from 2004-2005.
Inspired by the ambiguous works of German prophet poet and translator
Stefan George (1868-1933), Lebenswelt to a great extent sounds
aristocratic, remote, and dark, with many references to the modern
European symbolist movement. Mixing distinctive drones and ambiences
with repetitive industrial hammerings, well-designed noise layers, and
shape-shifting rhythmic structures, they depict apocalyptic industrial
canvas with morose and hopeless atmosphere. A berhyme of a kingdom
ruined! [RAIG]

PRICE: 10 € / $

SELAXON LUTBERG + SUBINTERIOR: SPRING MEETING, CD-R
(Cold Current Prod.)
This is the second CDr 3" from the series dedicated to the 4 seasons.
Born from the great friendly collaboration between Andrea
Freschi/Subinterior and Andrea Penso/Selaxon Lutberg. Around 20 minutes
of deep ambient music on a nice orange glowing CDr 3". [Label info]

PRICE: 6 € / $

WOMBA: EVIDENCE OF LETTA, CD
(RAIG)
Fascinating allure of sound sculptures, organic and industrial flotsams
of WOMBA origin catalyzed by the shed manipulations of the local
underground scene's most prolific lunatic Tikhon S. Kubov. It’s neither
a return to the aggravated sonic assault of the preceding album nor a
reproduction of the kind of noise you would expect nowadays, but
somewhat more soft, if at all possible. This sounds like a refined
post-industrial symphony of nostalgia, sentiment and lust. Normally, it
works without breaks as one single piece, but the montage specific
character allows a listener to spin one's own web of twenty four
audio-cells by programming the Letta tracks to playback in any order.
Make your own Evidence! [RAIG]

PRICE: 10 € / $
