Geez!

Commercial radio...so defensive! Wasn't it only yesterday
and early this morning that I published an article titled, "As
If We Didn't Already Know?" that addressed broadcast
radio's ever declining listenership?

Well, in less than 24 hours, these guys have come on both
the offensive and defensive!

When I read the phrase in the article that says broadcast
radio has now launched "nationwide advertising campaign
promoting radio as the source for new and compelling
music," I could not help but feel like what Santa Claus must
feel when he laughs with glee. In fact, I chuckled almost to
the point of falling out of my damn seat.

I won't give away the whole literary "candy store" here,
but will otherwise let you read their particular response
firsthand.

And, once you review the article, please, pretty please,
tell me if it does not eerily feel like the same response that
major labels gave when the Internet caught them with their
proverbial pants down around their ankles as they rested
their buttocks upon a bottomless musical commode.

In fact, in the second paragraph of the article, be sure to
pay attention to the quip that David Field, president and
CEO of Entercom Communications, makes about satellite
radio. Ha!

"Hey, Dave! I think the end of the world has just been
Internetized!"

Now, that's strange...my spell checker says that the phrase,
"Internetized," is not in its dictionary. Hmm...better check
that out...

In any event, after reviewing the article, please talk to me
about it at http://yahoogroups.com/group/BSharpRoundTable
as I am suddenly feeling the onslaught of some much
needed therapy hovering on the horizon.

Or, perhaps, it is simply the innate fear of possibly being
approached by commercial radio personnel that are armed
to the teeth with assault weapons while lining the MuBiz.com
offices' perimeter with Claymore mines.

JayBee, I had hoped we wouldn't have to do it, but I guess
we had better go ahead and put in that dreaded call to
Army Colonel Benjamin O'Reilly after all.
