EDITOR'S BLURB:

Blurb 1: Do you know the difference between being the
"driver" and "rider" in your Music career? If not, please
read the below article, as well as take the survey at the
end of it. Afterward, I would appreciate your thoughts
on both.

Blurb 2: Alas, that Missouri gentleman, Bob Baker, is up
to his old tricks again...putting out GREAT books! If you
are a musician with a MySpace.com site (I'll lay odds
10-1 that you have one), you will be incredibly enlightened
by Bob's new book's revelations on how to use MySpace
to catapult your exposure and popularity into the
cybersphere.

This book is incredibly eye-opening on how you can
(almost instantly) turn the Internet's largest social network
into your largest fan and sale base. After reading it, you
will agree that you only *thought* you knew how to use
MySpace effectively for promotion, sales and exposure.
So, check it out at http://www.MuBiz.com/bb-bf.html

Thanks!

~ KL

I. Stringing Me Up (With Guitar Strings)"

By Woody Bridges

Stringing Me Up (With Guitar Strings)

Most musicians know that different guitar strings are better
for playing different styles of music. For playing rock,
lighter gauge strings are better because bending the strings
can raise a note up 3 or 4 semi-tones and lighter gauge
strings are easier to bend.

However, jazz would be the other extreme. Jazz guitarists
prefer strings that are of a heavier gauge because they
rarely bend a string to raise a semi-tone but rather they
pick the notes. Classical guitarists use nylon strings.
Bluegrass guitarists most often use standard wound
strings. Country guitarists usually use medium to light
gauge strings.

The problem with buying sets of strings, no matter what
genre music you play, is that prepackaged string sets
don't allow for personal preference and individual styles.
As you become more accomplished, you will most likely
find that you like certain gauge or type strings over others.

Several (more than a few) years ago I found that by using
different gauge strings, I could bend the strings and play a
different chord using the same chord position. For
example, when making a simple F chord, I could also play
a Bb by bending the strings.

Years ago I discovered that using a .009, .011, .016, .024,
.032 and .038 were the gauges that gave me the added
effects that best suited my style. I had to buy each string
separately because prepackaged strings didn't come in
those gauges.

Now Ernie Ball has prepackaged sets of guitar strings that
are pretty close and other string manufacturers do as well.
There are Ernie Ball prepackaged sets of guitar strings
that use the .009, .011, .016, .024, .032 and .042. Now I
buy that set and a single .038. (I have a drawer full of .042's
if anybody needs them.) :-)

Personally, I prefer Ernie Ball because they seem to hold
their brightness longer but you might prefer another brand.
The best thing to do is just to experiment until you find the
brand and the gauges that suit you best. You can buy
Ernie Ball and other brands of strings at

II. "How to Use Video to Promote Your Music Online"

By Bob Baker

Have you seen the treadmill video from Ok Go? It was a
simple but creative concept that spread like crazy online
and primed music fans for the band's debut CD release.

Or how about the regular video clips published by indie
artist Terra Naomi? During a two-month period in 2006,
webcam music videos she produced in her apartment were
viewed 2.5 million times on YouTube. Because of this
exposure, Terra sold 2,000 copies of her new CD in eight
days. No doubt about it ... video is huge on the Internet!

Over the past six months video has exploded online.
YouTube alone now delivers about 100 million videos a day
to its users. And much of it is music.

Are you making the most of this new online music
promotion opportunity? To help you create, promote and
profit from online video, I just published a jam-packed,
22-page special report called
"How to Use Video to Promote Your Music Online."

Here's just some of what you'll find in this one-of-a-kind report:

* 9 ways to produce music videos on a shoestring budget

* 4 places to find indie film directors who will produce your
music videos at no cost

* 14 Music Video Themes you can use to create clips your
fans will love (many of these will surprise you)

* 28 places to host and stream your videos online for free

Don't sit on this. Online music video promotion is hot!...
and GETTING HOTTER! Get the ideas and tools you need
to make the most of it
