A lot depends on whether the record company has access to the
recordings, and what the attitude of the artist is.

If they are not in agreement about the release you can meet barriers.
Don't want to go into it now but I have tried to do something with
material by one of THL's label mates from Virgin and while labels were
willing, someone else wasn't.

It would probably be easier to licence things like BBC sessions.
