There seems to be a lot of confusion about this.  I asked John at Hysteria the same question last week, and he wrote back confirming that it wasn't actually available on the Clock DVA site, as he'd originally thought.

I then asked Barry Tomkinson if he knew, as his name was mentioned in John's review, but he'd not heard of a CD and had never seen the sleeve that's featured on Hysteria!

I can't find it for sale through the usual on-line vendors either, and as I don't actually have the last two tracks, I'd certainly like to get a copy myself (even those those tracks are apparently the least interesting to listen to).... does anyone else know?

Adi Newton (Clock DVA and early League) is a friend of mine, and I know the FUTURE album isn`t available. VIRGIN wanted to release it in 1982, but Phil Oakey refused to let it be released.

How strange.... it's not as if he's even on any of the recordings!  (Unless someone knows something I don't!)

No, he `s not, but Oakey retained the rights to the band name and I think Virgin wanted to release it as The Human League - `The Future Tapes`, and thats how Oakey could block it. Virgin simply wanted to cash-in (even further) on a band that was one of the biggest in the world in 1982.

Best wishes,

The German synthpop site "e-lectric" (http://www.e-lectric.de) has a small
feature on the Blind Youth site at
http://www.e-lectric.de/berichte/170700/future.htm .... though I've no idea
what it says, as I don't speak the language!

Is anyone able to translate it? Thanks,

Hi Sean,

It says that before the Human League, Martyn Ware and Ian Marsh created The
Future (without Phil Oakey). Of which, Martyn Ware, (now a keyboardist in
Heaven 17) has made some songs available from his personal tapes as mp3
downloads. You can find the songs on the page www.blindyouth.co.uk.

There are also other songs from this pre-Human League tape and 30-second
samples can be found at http://www.ozemail.com.au/~jjva/human1.htm.

Hi there everyone,
I`m new to this group, But i loved the idea of a group devoted to the
BEST time of the League.
I recently got some RARE posters of gigs from `78 when they supported
the Banshees on tour. These where purchased from SPIZZ of Spizz Oil,
Spizzenergi etc. Spizz was & still is a great friend of Ware & Marsh
of those days. As he usually performed as support to the League.
I have in my collection RARE demo tapes from Reproduction / Travelogue
& Live recordings also. One from Sheffield Uni `78 & the FUTURE tape
including Blank Clocks etc. I would like to put these onto cd , but
time is something i don`t have much of. If anyone wants a list of
stuff i`ve got e-mail me. I`ll try to put a list together of all
tapes & their track listings. Most of all i`d love any recordings i`m
missing from that era.
Well, thats it for now. Hope to be in touch with someone out there
soon. Please, I am only a devoted collector NOT a seller, but i would
love to help out anyone who could help me.
Cheers & Take Care
Ken

Yikes,

Please disregard that last message, except for the fact that I love
the original League, it sounded like it was posted by a 11 year old!
Anyway, I am listed on the Human site too, so as I may have said
before it is great to be on another message board.

I look forward to reading and maybe putting in a few comments here
and there.

Hey, if anyone would like to trade some pics or stuff , I am looking
for Adrian Wright related items, please let me know..I have to keep
my collection up!
Later.

------------ Blind Youth site update ------------

I've just finished updating the Blind Youth site, mainly concentrating on
the biography section (The Way It Was) and the discography (Rock 'N' Roll).

So there's now additional material on Philip joining the group, the meaning
of "Circus Of Death", the European tour with Iggy Pop, the group's friction
with Virgin over cover versions, and plenty of quotes from the various
members on the split. Plus various minor changes here and there, all of
which have been incorporated into the Word 97 document which can be
downloaded from the main page.

I'll be adding one or two new sections at some point, though I'll probably
be too busy to do a great deal before Christmas.... but don't worry, I'll be
sure to keep updating the site! Hope the latest updates are of interest....

Funny you should say that Donna .. the first time I
heard his voice was in that interview for Young Guns
documentary of a couple of years ago ... "after all
these years"

he does have a broad Yorkshire accent tho (and a
somewhat Higher voice than I'd imagined) .. so if it's
not Sheffield then it's somewhere near --- I'm sure
someone knows

Hi all,

According to the book by Jill Furmanovsky (The story of a band called The human league) he comes from North Yorkshire but she doesn't say which town it was.
I might have that episode of Young Guns as well, if I have then I will try to make an mp3 of it for you.

Thanks all! I would greatly appreciate it! I looked at the Story of
the Band called Human League...Well if he is from the North?
Nottingham?? My best friend is from there and he said that you can
hardly tell the difference between a Notts accent and ones from
Sheffield..though he can distinguish someone coming from Manchester?

I was wondering if he was speaking on Flexi disc..(on Reproduction
CD..track 15?) I thought at first it was him telling the story of
Yuri Gagarin and a cup of tea...that person had a higher
voice...damn..I should have said something to him when I just about
bumped into him in London..oops!

Speaking of things all Adrian..was he pretty narky on League
interviews..he is blessed with a dry wit!

I would hazard a guess at Scarborough ..

Yes, I think that's him talking about Yuri GAgarin now
you mention iot .. the voice is similar to the Young

It is definitley Adrian talking about Yuri...I recognise Martyn & Philip
too. Not sure what Ian sounds like...but then he was the "quiet one". One of
the others on the flexi is Bob Last I think.

Hmm, coming from Scarborough myself, I've never heard anything about
Adrian originating from the surrounding area... still his accent is
much more North Yorkshire than South Yorkshire... it's got
that 'rural' twang. I'd say it's definitely Adrian talking about
Yuri Gagarin. It's the way he says 'rocket' :)
