Hey Everybody;
I am writing to see how many of you might be interested in participating in drum and dance workshops the weekend of July 17-19. Drum Central would like to host Manimou Camara for classes that weekend and would like to get an idea of whether or not there is enough of you around and willing to attend to make his classes a success.
Here is a link to his website, so I will let that part speak for itself:
In addition I would like to offer my personal opinion as many of you may not have had the opportunity to meet him. I have had the pleasure twice, once in California when i attended his drum class and stayed and played for the dance class - and at the Seattle Rhythm Festival this past spring. I found Manimou to be a very energetic and positive minded teacher. His smile seems constant and I enjoyed his enthusiasm from the start. I would definitely encourage anyone that loves the West African drum and dance to attend his classes if you ever get the chance. And here may be one of your best chances!
Let's see if we can bring this artist to Boise to keep our drum and dance scene growing. What do you think? Any of you willing to commit? Cost of the classes would be about $15. for dance and $10. for drum and we would need 15 dancers per dance class and 10 drummmers per drum class. Locations are not decided as yet, but the drum classes would most likely be at Drum Central if not at the same location as the dance classes. He usually likes to teach the drum rhythm that he teaches the dance to.
Can you pass the word and get back to me if you are interested? We need to make a decision soon so we can book a flight and make the necessary arrangements.
Thank you,
rick thomson
