Hello drummers and rhythm makers;
 
You are invited to join us every Friday night at 8:00pm to play!
 
Drum Central recently changed "Friday Night Jam" back to a popular format we had years ago in our early days called "Rhythm of the Week" This weekly rhythm jam is facilitated and each week we will share different drum rhythms from the book "Conga Joy" by Bill Matthews. These patterns are rhythms are great for beginner drummers as well as more advanced players, as they offer a wide variety of patterns and techniques.
 
This week we will be playing and sharing "SHIKO", a rhythm from Nigeria that has four simple hand drum parts and two bell patterns that make a great fondation for improvisation and jamming. We have plenty of drums in studio or bring your own if you have one. The cost is by donation and helps Drum Central to keep our studio open and continue sharing world rhythms with the Boise community. All ages welcome. Come Play!

ok. I have gotten a few Rhythm Sheets, Hand Charts, and mp3 samples on the website. If you are new to drumming, these tools can help. The sound files are r e a l l y slow... 50bpm. The hand charts show exactly where to put your hands, and come in Left hand and Right hand versions. Give it a glimpse....
Confidence sounds great!

I am also adding some of the Lesson Plans I've used with kids in some of my school programs. Those are coming up slowly but surely. All are found in the Student & Teachers tab... play happily!

We are hosting a FREE public screening of the "Playing For Change ~ Peace Through Music" documentary.

All musicians, and non-musicians of every sort,  every age, and every level of talent are welcome. 

This beautiful documentary is about the desire for change and bringing people together !
So please, come and share your talent, your ideas,  your inspiration, and your desire for Change with us in Uniting Our Community Through Music ! 

The Inspiration:
Playing for Change is a multimedia movement created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music. The idea for this project arose from a common belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. No matter whether people come from different geographic, political, economic, spiritual or ideological backgrounds, music has the universal power to transcend and unite us as one human race. And with this truth firmly fixed in our minds, we set out to share it with the world.

In the light of this wonderful movement we are hosting a "Playing For Change ~ Peace Through Music" party  right here Boise Idaho !

Musicians from all over the world are being brought together to perform benefit concerts that build music and art schools in communities that are in need of inspiration and hope. In addition to benefit concerts, the Playing for Change band also performs shows around the world. When audiences see and hear musicians who have traveled thousands of miles from their homes, united in purpose and chorus on one stage, everyone is touched by music's unifying power. 

Everyone can participate in this transformative experience by joining the Playing for Change Movement. http://www.playingforchange.com/

Fans are spreading the message of Playing for Change through our media, and this is only the beginning. Together, we will connect the world through music !

After the screening Steve Fulton will be sharing music with us and afterward, we will be having an Open floor Jam session for you ALL to participate in. 
There are two songs that we will absolutely be playing.

Stand by me: by Ben E. King
I will have the words to both songs printed up along with sheet music if you need it. If you would like it before hand, just let me know and I will send it to you.
After that it's all up to you ! We can play whatever you desire 
to share with us.
Don't worry if you don't know how to play an instrument, there will be plenty of opportunities of fun for everyone !

There will be some snacks, but this will also be a potluck style gathering. So please feel free to bring something to eat and share with others. 
We will have water available. If you can bring a cup, no glass, that would be great !

Also, PLEASE bring something soft to sit on for the movie. 
In order to make room for everyone, we will not have chairs in the room.

Hi Folks,

Boise North End's Intergenerational (all ages) Choir, under the direction of Vashti Summerville and Will Martin, presents its fall concert Saturday, November 21st at 4:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church, corner of State and 9th streets. The program is a fun and eclectic mix of upbeat and kid-friendly tunes, from '50's hits to African traditional songs set to 6-piece marimba band. Admission is by free will donation. Come hear this lively show!

Hey Everyone;
 
Just a reminder that we have a didgeridoo forum here at Drum Central this Wednesday (November 11th) at 7:00pm. If you have never been to a Drum Centarl Forum, this would be a good chance to give one a try! It is open to anyone interested in "playing, learning, sharing and meeting others who feel the same way about didgeridoos". Local maker and player Barry Sherman will facilitate this Wednesday - and the cost is a donation - $5.oo to help pay the bills around here would be most generous. We also have extra studio didges and a few for sale in the store, if you don't yet own one.
 
 
And if that isn't quite enough, there will be a beginning didge class this Saturday at 1:30pm. -
 
 
Learn the basics of didge playing: History, References & resources, Embouchure (how you use and hold the muscles around your mouth to play wind instruments), Drone, Vocalizations and tips on how to start "circular" breathing. Some didges are available in the studio for use - or bring your own.
Instructor - Barry Sherman    $10.00  for session - $5.00 KOSO Supporters
