CORO-DANTE: The Dante Alighieri Society of Cambridge is seeking interested members of the community to sing in a four-part chorus called Coro Dante. The purpose of the chorus is to promote Italian language and culture through singing Italian music.
CHORUS SIZE & REPERTOIRE: The chorus will be comprised of about 50-60 singers SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass), and will perform a wide variety of musical styles – old and new, but always in Italian.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS: You need not speak Italian or have extensive musical experience. Ability to sing in tune is highly desired. Ability to read music is not required but preferable. A weekly commitment of an hour and half on Mondays for rehearsing would give you a chance to meet with friends, make new ones and perhaps expand your musical and linguistic skills!
REHEARSALS / LEADERSHIP: Rehearsals will be held at the Dante Alighieri Society (on Monday Eves) located at 41 Hampshire Street (Kendall Square Area) in Cambridge. International Choral/Orchestral Cconductor Kevin Galič, a Dante community member, has graciously donated his musical expertise as musical director. There will be no membership fees to join – but membership in the Dante (modest fee) is encouraged. Your enthusiasm and love of music is all that is required.
PERFORMANCES: The chorus performs during Italian Heritage Month in October and in Christmas and spring concerts for a total of three concerts a year, with smaller offerings for Befana and Carnevale.
