When I was growing up in the late 60's and 70's we learned in school about the oppressive, totalitarian communist goverment of the Soviet Union.

We were told that their people did not have free speech, free press, freedom of religion and other rights that we enjoyed.

Well, now in the United States all of the major press is owned by big corporations, who in turn own our government. They only allow us to see what they want us to see.

This radio station and website are named in honor of Radio Free Europe. That was an American Radio that broadcasted around the world to tell those in countries being oppressed by totalitarian governments news and information that they could not get in their countries. Now in our country we find oursevles unable to get accurate and timely news about what is going on within our country and in other countries. We have become like them. Radio Free America was created to bring real and uncensored news to those in the US who don't know where to find it.

We are allowed free speech. But if the newspapers and television chose not to cover your protest or to devote a very small space to it and report that you are a bunch of wackos then that is all the public will know except for the very small amount of people who actually speak to you.

Currently the only free speech press we seem to now enjoy is the internet. As long as they don't shut us down we are free to say what we wish. This is my small effort to make a difference by letting people know what is going on in this country.
