The why:
QUALITY SINGING -- We can blast the ceiling right up through the roof with
ear-created chords.
QUALITY ATTENDEES -- Many participants will be under 40 years old,
alongside "seasoned citizens" who can keep right up.
INSPIRATION -- We will take Barbershopping into our own hands and make it
OURS. We'll craft solid, ringing Barbershop arrangements without relying
on printed spots or outside influences. We'll use only our ears, our
reaction time, our training in quality singing, and an absolutely endless
supply of excellent melodies.
DISCOVERY -- We'll discover what chords will work, and which are better
than others. We'll devise creative arrangements that could win any contest.
VERSATILITY -- You'll sing melodies, and your pals will sing melodies, and
you and everybody will swap parts.
COOL STUFF -- For free and for purchase, there'll be valuable, fun items
for AHSOW members and AHSOW guests.
INVIGORATION -- Practically everyone who visits a good AHSOW room stays far
longer than he originally plans.
SATISFACTION -- Ours alone, and even better than other things that we
enjoy in Barbershopping because WE will do it all... until the Tenors drop
in their tracks.
What does it take to become an AHSOW member?
1. You must be a current member of BHS/SPEBSQSA.
2. Singing by ear, you must demonstrate satisfactory proficiency and good
instincts on at least two harmony parts of your choice (Tenor, Bari, Bass)
to a number of melodies unfamiliar to you, but which you get to hear first.
3. When offered membership, you must have (or beg/borrow) the reasonable
induction dues. You get free materials and qualify for IMMEDIATE discounts
on cool AHSOW stuff. Budget a little extra to augment your new membership
with everything that an AHSOW member ought to have.
"Discovery singing" really is the beating heart of Barbershopping.
Your Cardinal District AHSOW room is a destination, not an option. See you
at the "A-Room" in Louisville!
Yours for an old song,
Toban Dvoretzky -- Ex-Pres., AHSOW
