Cardinal singers,
It is with a heavy heart that I report to you the passing of Bob Hills. Bob won our senior's championship singing lead with Evening Shade in 2004. He won with my dad, which gave me the opportunity to coach their quartet. He was a real class act with more knowledge of music than I could even fathom, but was hungry to learn more during our sessions. I was very humble and a bit intimidated by this gifted musician. But, in the end, I realized this was a man who loved music more than anything and proved it as he gave his final performance in our Fall contest. Bob couldn't rehearse much with Evening Shade due to his health. He couldn't stand for very long due to the pain he experienced at times. But, when he said he wanted to do contest, the rest of the guys were shocked. He got up on that stage and put out an outstanding performance, as usual. He was a living testament to the fact that we don't perform for personal gain, we perform for anyone willing to listen with the hope to make someone's life just that much better. I know I was influence by his talent and his energy as most of the BOW chorus was fortunate to experience. Bob directed a few songs with the BOW (mostly his own arrangements). When he stood in front, he directed with masterful hands and with conviction, all the while keeping us smiling and laughing.
He was a great champion, musician, and most of all, our friend.
You will be missed by many!
