Actually Aaron, the districts would not
have to combine indefinitely to hold a spring convention together. We
could do it as a one time thing, or more often if we wanted to. The
reason that JAD would work so well is that they have a convention site that
would be a nice mid point for almost all involved.
As far as keeping Cardinal strong, I hate
to be the guy shouting out the bad news, but Cardinal is not strong, nor have
we been for some time. Our membership is steadily declining, and
attendance at conventions is extremely low. If I remember the numbers
correctly, I think that we only had 485 paid registrations from this past
spring convention.
In any event, having attended both JAD and CAR conventions as a competitor, I
can honestly say that we in Cardinal have a LONG way to go to match the
attendance, enthusiasm and fun that I experienced at JAD. My feeling is
that it might just give us a shot in the arm to take our folks to a combined
convention and let them all experience what a convention CAN be.

I have not heard this to be a possibility
and I am active in both CAR and JAD.
I believe that the districts would have
to combine indefinitely for this to happen. I would not like to see it
happen, personally, but I think it would happen with ILL before JAD. JAD is very large and
has around 47 or so active chapters. But, let's keep our Cardinal
District strong by gaining more members and putting quality groups on the
contest stage, so the possibility of this never surfaces.
I have been in Cardinal for 13 years and
have visited many other districts. There is no district I know of like
this one. It is very family-oriented, supportive, and the cameraderie is
second to none. It also has great leadership.
