2. Widening Gyre - "Southwind"

http://mp3.com/WideningGyre?cm
=================================================
I first met Widening Gyre about three years ago, when I started
playing Celtic music. They were a three-piece that was slightly
disjointed. The third member just didn't fit in well with the
husband and wife duo of David Armstrong and Aditi Gowri. Yet they
still wanted to have those three-part harmonies. Fortunately,
they finally decided that they didn't need a third-wheel. Now
Texas-based Canadians, Widening Gyre, are taking the U.S. by
storm with their first album "Reel Shadows".
"Southwind" is ONE of many favorites on this album. There are
several. This one highlights Aditi's luscious vocals and David's
fine, artistic guitar picking. It's a ballad, and I admit it, I'm
a sap for ballads. But this one was so well-performed, I added it
to the "Best of Celtic MP3s.com" compilation CD before I even
reviewed it.
And if you've been to Widening Gyre's MP3.com homepage, you'll
know that the "Southwind" is only exclusively downloadable

Silly Wizard - "Live Wizardry"

=================================================
There's nothing like a great live album. And though the band is
longer together, the music lives and flourishes as people
rediscover the magic of Silly Wizard. Silly Wizard performs
timeless traditional Irish and Scottish music...well, that's
what it sounds like. You'd never know that songs like "Ramblin'
Rover" was not a few hundred years old, rather it was written
vocalist, Andy M. Stewart. This is an amazing album and RCL
(Required Celtic Listening) for any fan.

4. Celtic Freedom - "James Connolly"
http://mp3.com/CelticFreedom?cm
=================================================
Celtic Freedom is composed of a couple brothers originally from
the West Coast of Scotland, now based in Liverpool England.
Having played with various other Bands they decided to team up
and to concentrate on songs which support the struggle for
FREEDOM from British Rule in Ireland. Since they've moved up the
ranks to be, at the very least, the most popular Irish Rebel Band
on MP3.com.
And a few weeks ago, they released their latest album, "Tiocfaidh
Ar La" meaning "Our Day Will Come". "James Connolly" is one of
the releases from this new album that is currently, the #1 World/
Folk album on MP3.com. The song is about the manner of execution
of James Connolly after the 1916 Easter Uprising which was a PR
disaster for the British. His death lead to greater social class
differences and strengthened the cause of the Irish rebels.
The band sent me this quote about Connolly: "In his lifetime,
Connolly always fought for the unity of the working class above
all national and religious lines. By concentrating on class
issues, he succeeded in uniting the Catholic and Protestant
workers in the struggle against their common enemy - the
employing class. That is the only way to get out of the present
mess. The only way to solve what remains of Ireland's national
problem is as a by-product of the revolutionary struggle for
socialism. That was true in Connolly's day. And it remains true
today. There can be no reunification of Ireland while the working
class remains divided along sectarian lines." (Ted Grant/Allen
Woods on the Easter Uprising of 1916)
To me, it's a beautiful and passionate song. One of the many
struggles the Irish have endured in their quest for independence.
And it's the emotion of the song that is making Celtic music more
popular every day!
