"I love the new compilation CD! That group Widening Gyre is
amazing... Thanks for your review!!!" -Sarah

Ye know, record labels these days argue constantly that file
sharing is a bad thing. But more and more artists are realizing
just how incredibly valuable MP3s are as a promotional tool. I'm
pleased to see so many Celtic artists embracing this technology.

For the past year, I've been collecting a book of countless
websites offering free Celtic MP3s, and the book is coming along.
I hope to have it out in the very near future including a free
version that I hope you will consider sharing with all your
friends. If you'd like to be in the directory, then submit your
music at http://www.CelticMP3s.com/submit/

In the meantime, listen to these fanastic fiddle tunes, and if
you like the music, give the Major Labels a sign that you support
independent music and free MP3s by buying the album.

2. Bonnie Rideout - "Invergarry Castle"

=================================================

I love all the great artists you can find on MP3.com. Bonnie
Rideout is a three-time U.S. Scottish fiddle champion who's been
featured on BBC, CBS News Sunday Morning, NPR's Performance
Today, Morning Edition, and The Thistle and Shamrock. She has
seven solo albums out and has appeared on dozens of CDs for her
fantastic fiddling. She's also done amazing job exploring the
Scottish music for which she's best known.

Take for example "Invergarry Castle". This is a lilting
nineteenth century highland bagpipe march which she plays
stunning beauty before evolving into a set of jigs (O as I was
kissed yestereen!/Sutherland Colquhoun's Jig). Together with
Bryan Aspey on guitar, they create a stirring set of tunes that
are truly eternal.

4. Rowan - "The Earl's Chair - Clumsy Lover"
http://www.rowan.musicpage.com/
http://mp3.com/Rowan?cm
=================================================

Rowan is a four piece, acoustic band based in Wichita, Kansas
and known for high energy traditional jig and reels as well as
original ballads. Their name comes from the Rowan tree, which has
traditionally been considered among the Celtic people to be a
powerful source of spiritual strength and protection from evil.
The band was formed in the Fall of 1997 and were soon swamped
with questions as to when their album would come out. Their first
album "So Many Tunes, So Little Time" came out in 1998, followed
by "Grandfather's Horse" in 1999 which received incredible
reviews. Their newest album, "Current" is due out this summer!

You'll see why, when you take a listen to this fiery set of
reels that includes: "The Earl's Chair" and one of my personal
favorites, "The Clumsy Lover". No, this is not a personal issue.
Rather, it's a brilliant reel that weaves magically together
"The Earl's Chair" as Rowan performs both with two flying
fiddles.

Interestingly, one of the fiddle players Marianne Payette Carter
who performs quite regularly at the Kansas City Renaissance
Festival under the name of Matty Striker. I never got a chance to
listen to them last year, and after hearing them soar on this
tune, I wish I had!

While it sounds like I'm featuring just a local organization,
AIMS is much more. The AIMS website features an in-depth
directory of Celtic with an emphasis on Irish music in Arizona.
Plus, they publish a weekly newsletter filled with all sorts of
news that I enjoy even though I don't live in Arizona.
