2. Jodee James - "Yr Hen Ferchetan"

=================================================
If you've been listening to MP3.com for a while, you know that
Jodee James is a perennial Celtic favorite on MP3.com. She is
also the online authority for traditional Welsh music. Jodee is
a singer/songwriter, professional dreamer, lover of Welsh folk
songs-singing songs in English and Welsh, eager to share this
enchantment. She has four albums out with a mix of Welsh and
original music.
"Yr Hen Ferchetan" means "The Old Maiden". It's an old Welsh song
that was collected by the Welsh Folk Song Society in 1925 with
just the tune and the first line- "Old Maiden has lost her
lover...." The remaining verses were later published by Enid
Parry. The song was originally written in Welsh and though Jodee
decided to translate this particular song so people would be able
to better understand the storyline.
This delightful song is one of the first to be released from her
upcoming ablum, "As If My Own Heart Beating" which is due out in
September. It has a great story and Jodee James' stunning vocals
with a great bit of diddling interweaved with the story. Jodee is
one of those who inspires me to play traditional Celtic music.

4. The Cottars - "The Briar & The Rose"

=================================================
Brendan Carey Block is not the only Celtic firestorm. Introducing
The Cottars. Cape Breton's The Cottars were named for the
peasants who were transplanted from the Scottish highlands to
their native Nova Scotia. They are two brother-and-sister duos
aged 12-15, who perform traditional and long-forgotten Celtic
music and folk songs in a fresh new way. As Cape Breton's
youngest, and most talked-about Celtic band, these youngsters are
following in the footsteps of other island exports like Natalie
MacMaster, The Rankins, The Barra MacNeils, and Ashley MacIsaac.
With lively, yet intimate performances that make you feel "part
of the clan," The Cottars are bringing the warmth and energy of
Cape Breton "kitchen parties" to the rest of the world.
I had a tough time choosing a song to feature. But I decided on
"The Briar & The Rose". It's a very moving modern Celtic song
sung by Fiona MacGillivray. It's sung with a synth background
that makes me think of Enya when she was a little girl. The song
itself is a touching lament that's become the band's signature
song that tears at your heart-strings. The album "Made in Cape
Breton" is an impressive debut and no doubt you will be hearing
a lot more from this young Celtic Canadian band.

5. Southern Fried Filk, LLC
http://www.geocities.com/sffilk/sffilk.htm
=================================================
That's right. It's not folk, it's filk!
What is filk? Filk is like folk music with a Sci Fi or
Fantasy theme. Some filk songs are comical. Some are parodies
like "Wierd Al" Yankovich. But interestingly, many filkers
are also Celtic musicians. How does this happen? Well if a
Celtic musician writes their own music as if it was a couple
hundred years old, you could call that filk too.
Enter Southern Fried Filk. This website was designed to
sell the music of filkers. But it also features prominent
folk and Celtic musicians, like Clandestine, Avalon Rising,
Emerald Rose, 7 Nations and now the Brobdingnagian Bards.
Check out Southern Fried Filk and experience "Good music
you've not heard of...YET!!!"
