2. The Lost Keyes - "Reel Set"
http://www.mp3.com/The_Lost_Keyes?cm
=================================================

The Lost Keyes is a fairly new Celtic group who met at
Turku University in Finland while studying Musicology. They
formed the group at the end of 2001 and have been playing
non-stop since, performing many traditional Irish ballads
which host exquisite vocals that are remind me of Clandestine
or Altan, but they also have a fine mastery of traditional
reels and jigs.

The "Reel Set" is begins with a beautiful, slow reel called
"Far from Home" that gently caresses the listeners before
breaking into an upbeat, traditional tune they call "Cruises
Reel" that the fiddler learned at Cruise's in Ennis, Ireland.
Before finishing up with Nine Points of Roguery. The band has
no CD out at all. Their site is filled with "demo recordings".
But you would never guess it by the quality. Fine recordings
performed with professional precision.

A few years back, The Chieftains were visiting Canada when they
started recording a Kitchen party. Many of the top Canadian
musicians dropped in like Natalie MacMaster, Great Big Sea,
the Rankings, and next thing you know, a new CD is born with
The Chieftains producing an album with them backing Canadian's
finest.

4. Scott Williams - "The Burning of the Piper's Hut"
http://mp3.com/ScottWilliams?cm
=================================================

I remember Andrew once commented to me how he has bought
a number of Renaissance Festival CDs and been disappointed
with most. The sound quality, production, performance or
something was usually not up to par. This by no means the
case with Scott Williams.

Scott Williams performs Celtic, colonial, Civil War, and original
pieces on a hammered dulcimer. He's been playing the hammered
dulcimer for 12 years after buying one at the Maryland
Renaissance Festival. While the instrument is originally of
Middle Eastern origin, there are quite a few artists who've
adapted it for Celtic music and you'll hear some beautiful reels
and jigs spring forth from this inspiring instrument, like...
"The Burning of the Piper's Hut".

"The Burning of the Piper's Hut" iis a Scottish tune written
about a British war technique. It was the Scottish piper that
would maintain the morale of the Scottish army, so British
soldiers would seek out this piper and kill him to decrease the
spirit of the Scots. The melody is several centuries old and
the recording is an awesome instrumental that opens with a
simple guitar before evolving into a beautifully melodic reel.

5. Celtic World Radio
http://cwr.radiogogy.com/
=================================================

After the new legislation regarding royalties paid to artists
for online radio play, Michael McDane Harris of Ren Radio
decided to pass along one of his acclaimed stations. It's now
owned by Charlie Pecot who defines as follows:

"World Music - Recorded compositions whose musical influences
can audibly be traced to two or more disparate geographical
regions."

On it, you'll hear artists like Loreena McKennit, The Chieftains,
Seven Nations, Afro Celt Sound System, Gnomusy, Ikarus,
Capercaille, Lothlorien, Latan, Brobdingnagian Bands, and of
course Charlie's band, Falik.

This is progressive Celtic and World music at its finest and
something well worth listening in on.
