1. Celtic Music News
=================================================

I've been finding some more great music online. And in a couple
weeks, I'm gonna put out the next edition of the Celtic Music
Directory. If you already have a copy, great! Get ready to
download the new edition gratis.

Meanwhile, I was thinking about putting together another
compilation CD, but I wanted to get some feedback. What songs and
artists have you heard on MP3.com that YOU think would make a
good addition to a compilation CD? I'd like to get your thoughts
and opinions. Drop me a line at marc@...

Meanwhile, the Texas Renaissance Festival starts up next weekend,
and if you plan to go, please come out and see the Brobdingnagian
Bards. We've three shows every day, and I'd love to meet you!

2. Blackthorn - "Market Town"
http://www.blackthornband.com/
http://mp3.com/Blackthornband?cm
=================================================

Blackthorn is a Vancouver, Canada-based folk group whose
repertoire celebrates the traditional music of the British Isles
as well as folk music (including originals) of Canada. Feature
harmonies of the Celtic ballads, the boisterous, up-tempo folk
songs, and dance to the lively jigs and hornpipes.

Blackthorn has been on MP3.com for a while, but obviously have
not received the attention they deserve. I heard them on some
random Celtic station I was perusing and was delighted with the
find. "Market Town" is a delightful set, like much of their
music, composed of three jigs.

It starts with "Market Town", a happy tune on the pennywhistle
and fiddle with spoons that makes your head bob from side to
side. Then it moves into "Mug of Brown Ale" with an accordian a
bodhran taking charge before finishing up with "My Darling
Asleep". But don't expect to fall asleep with this jig. It's too
happy and joyful to listen to. Blackthorn really captures the
beauty of traditional Irish music.

3. HOT CELTIC MUSIC CDS & MORE
Mary Black - "Song for Ireland"
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00000DLXO/thebards
=================================================

"Song for Ireland" is a wonderful collection of traditional
and contemporary Celtic songs featuring sparse arrangements
which accentuate Mary Black's incredible voice. Excpect some
powerful pieces that will tear at your heart-strings, as well
songs that will lift you and give you piece of mind.

4. Claire Roche - "Bí, a Íosa, im Cróise"
http://www.claireroche.com/
http://mp3.com/ClaireRoche?cm
=================================================

I don't know how I missed reviewing Claire Roche. Claire is an
Irish harpist from Dublin who performs traditional Irish songs as
well as popular classical pieces. She's become more and more
popular in Ireland and touring quite extensively. She's also
a favorite for performing at weddings.

"Bí, a Íosa, im Cróise" is one of her most popular songs on
MP3.com. It's a beautiful traditional piece that means "Oh Jesus
Every Moment". It's often performed during the wedding communion
and here, it is sung with Claire's beautiful soprano vocals and
delicate harping. Fans of Loreena McKennit will love this song.
But every listener will be blown away by this enchanting
performance.

5. Kevin's Celtic & Folk CD Reviews
http://www.surfnetusa.com/celtic-folk/
=================================================

This is a web site devoted to reviewing celtic music,
UK folk music, and folk music CDs and making these reviews
available to the public. Kevin maintains this web site to benefit
both celtic and folk music singers/songwriters (so they might
sell more CDs),  the celtic and folk music buying public
(so they might make informed buying decisions), and to give
something back to the celtic and folk music community.
