I've been finding some more great music online. And in a couple
weeks, I'm gonna put out the next edition of the Celtic Music
Directory. If you already have a copy, great! Get ready to
download the new edition gratis. And for a limited time, I've put
the Directory on sale. Visit http://celticmusicnews.bardscrier.com/
for details.

Meanwhile, I was thinking about putting together another
compilation CD, but I wanted to get some feedback. What songs and
artists have you heard on MP3.com that YOU think would make a
good addition to a compilation CD? I'd like to get your thoughts
and opinions. Drop me a line at marc@...

Meanwhile, the Texas Renaissance Festival is now up and running,
and if you plan to go, please come out and see the Brobdingnagian
Bards. We've three shows every day, and I'd love to meet you!

2. Margaret Davis - "I Once Loved a Lad"

=================================================

Every now and then, I really get upset that MP3.com changed their
payback formula. Not because of the money, but because so many
artists decided to give up on MP3.com and seem to disappear from
the online world though their music should NEVER disappear.

Margaret Davis is one such person. Margaret is a singer, harper,
flautist based in the San Francisco, CA Bay Area, known for her
beautiful, haunting interpretations of Celtic, Medieval, and
Renaissance music. She performs solo and as lead singer with the
bands Broceliande and Avalon Rising. Her first CD, "Princess of
Flowers," is available from Flowinglass Music and is similar in
style to Loreena McKennitt, Enya, and Maire Brennan.

"I Once Loved a Lad" is a beautiful old Scots ballad of love
lost. The arrangements are exquisite with a harp leading the
music, but wonderful guitar and flute delicately mixed in. The
story is sad about a young man who marries while the storyteller
tells how she loved him. It ultimately leads to her death. While
the story is powerful, it's the incredible arrangement and vocals
that really make this an exceptional song and one worth a few
minutes of your time to disappear in Margaret's mystical world.

3. HOT CELTIC MUSIC CDS & MORE
Sinead O'Connor - "Sean-Nós Nua"
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00006J420/thebards
=================================================

Sinead O'Connor is back with a new album that I think will open
her up to a new type of fan--Celtic music lovers. The album is
"Sean-Nos Nua" which means "old style, new way". In it, Sinead
returns to her roots and sings traditional Irish songs. The music
is very progressive in the recording process with a very ambient
ethereal sound and minimal instrumentation added by Donal Lunny
and Christy Moore, who coproduced the CD. For a full-length
sample, you can listen to Sinead on the "Song of the Week"
station performing a radio edit of "My Lagan Love".

4. Wild Mountain Thyme - "Sailor's Prayer"

=================================================

A few week's back I brought you a great song by a band called
3 Pints Gone. Well, that's their new name. Before that, they
were well known as Wild Mountain Thyme. The band was composed of
Bill and Katheleen Masino on vocals and Gordon Lyons on guitar.
From 1991-2000 Wild Mountain Thyme performed traditional Celtic
folk tunes at festivals and events around the United States. They
were known for their intricate harmonies and high energy
performances of traditional Irish and Scottish folk songs.

Of their early albums was an incredible album filled with one of
their most popular songs, "The Moose Song". If you want a great
sickening laugh, go check it out.

"Sailor's Prayer", however, is a much more serious song and
highlights Bill Masino's incredible busty vocals and the groups
wonderful three-part harmonies. This is a rousing song by Rod
McDonald as a sailor sends a prayer for fair weather. And the
song builds in intensity as their audience joins in.
