1. Celtic Music News
=================================================

Well this has been a great week for changes. I finally set
up http://www.celticmp3s.com/ as the official URL, instead
of having it redirect to http://celticmp3.bardscrier.com/ .
So if you added a link to the later, please update your link
with the new URL.

Then yesterday, MP3.com made some dramatic changes to their
website. The site is newly designed with a gold and silver
theme. It's a bit sloppy and hides the Celtic charts for one,
but hopefully, they'll make some corrections as they get the
overwhelming, "Ugh!" from people like you.

On the cool side though, they changed the way songs are charted.
Now there is one chart for downloadable music and one for
streaming music.

Why is this cool?

Well, it makes a lot more Celtic music easier to access. Before
the change, it was pretty much the Brobdingnagian Bards and
Lothlorien fighting for the Celtic Top 40. Now, there is a lot
of new music like our last feature Victoria Schultz who's climbed
into the streaming Top 40! Plus, two of my favorites are now at
the top of the charts: Heidi, Stef & Bow Triplets and Lintie.

And for musicians...
If you are a Celtic musician, this could be a great opportunity
for you to promote your music without giving it all away.

So while enjoying the new charts, I found it easier than ever to
hunt down a great list of downloadable Celtic Halloween songs of
death, undead, and just dark music for this week's station.

2. Lisa Theriot - "Hallow's Eve"
http://www.ravenboymusic.com/
http://mp3.com/LisaTheriot?cm
=================================================

Lisa is better known to SCA members as Adelaide de Beaumont. She
performs traditional and original English/Scottish ballads on the
guitar.

"Hallow's Eve" is an original folk song with a very engaging and
well-written story. Lisa sings it with sorta Joan Baez-style
vocals. The atmosphere of the songs is very dark and mysterious.
It's a very eerie tale of a stranger turned lover at the door on
Hallow's Eve.

3. HOT CELTIC MUSIC CDS & MORE
Loreena McKennit - "The Visit"
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000002LT2/thebards
=================================================

"The Visit" was Loreena McKennit's 1992 breakthrough album that
combines a variety of Celtic styles. It features such magical
pieces as "Bonny Portmore" and "Lady of Shalott". But it opens
up with a wonderful song for Halloween, "All Souls Night".

4. Avalon Rising - "The Great Selkie"

=================================================

A couple weeks back, I featured harpist Margaret Davis. Well
Margaret is a Very busy woman. Aside from playing solo harp,
she also performs with a couple other bands. One of which is the
West Coast Celtic rock phenomena, Avalon Rising.

Formed in 1993 by co-founders Kristoph Klover and Margaret Davis,
Avalon Rising has grown from its Celtic traditional roots to
include psychedelic, Medieval, ambient, Middle Eastern, and
transformational influences. They are halfway done with their
second CD, "Storming Heaven", but for now, I'd like to direct
you to one of their most popular songs, "The Great Selkie".

"The Great Selkie" is a mythic, updated harp-based version of an
old Scots ballad, with enchanting lead vocal sung by Margaret
Davis. The song spent several months at the top of the Celtic
charts with it's magical Loreena McKennit-esque sound and was
even selected to be included on of MP3.com's Free Sampler CDs.

5. Mad for Trad
http://www.madfortrad.com/
=================================================

Billing itself as the home of traditional Irish music on the web,
Mad for Trad is much more. It is the place to find out about
traditional Irish music, learn to play traditional Irish
instruments, find sheet music for traditional tunes. Yes, it is
the jackpot for traditional music. Lots of great information, and
well organized, if you want to play Celtic music, head over to
Mad for Trad today.
