1. Celtic Music News
=================================================
Something incredible happened this week. Lothlorien, in
my opinion, the pinnacle combination of traditional and
contemporary Celtic music on MP3.com, was knocked off
the Celtic Top 40. Well as hard as I've had to promote to
get the Brobdingnagian Bards up the charts, I cannot deny
that Lothorien is one of the biggest names in downloadable
Celtic music. So at long last, I'd like to feature a single that
was released some months back by this internet great,
Lothlorien. And to compliment them, I've chosen another
wonderful contemporary Celtic group from San Diego,
called Celticana.
MP3.com is also getting ready to change the format
quite a bit. Artists who are not Platinum Artists will soon
only be allowed to post three songs on their artist page.
This means, if you still want some great music, you better
head over to MP3.com and start downloading those
non-Platinum artist music. How can you tell which is
which? The Basic Artist pages are NOT in bold.
Finally, I need a wee bit of assistance from all who are
willing. The Austin Chronicle Music Poll is up again. The
Brobdingnagian Bards made an incredible showing last
year, and we hope to do the same this. So if you'd like
to help out, please visit the link below and follow the
voting instructions.

Next week, we'll take a walk on the comical side of Celtic
music.

Canon PowerShot S30

I got the camera a couple days ago and have been trying it
out. It is fantastic! It has ton of features from the typical
red-eye removal to AVI video recording. Plus, it works
great for taking low light shots. Unlike past digital cameras
I've used this one has a lot of customization features, as if
you wanted to take a 35mm picture. I love that. But it's just
as easy to get up and start shooting snapshots to upload to
your computer. Fantastic camera!

2. Lothlorien - "Paddy's Green Shamrock Shore"

=================================================
If you've been on MP3.com for any length of time, you
probably know about Lothlorien. They're not just some
group with a cool "Lord of the Rings" band name. In my
opinion they are the perfect combination of contemporary
and traditional Celtic music. Their music is largely ethereal
and haunting sounding on mostly traditional instruments.
You'll hear some stunning tunes and some equally stunning
vocal ballads like in "Paddy's Green Shamrock Shore." The
group has achieved a host of awards since they began in
1996. And every one of them is well-deserved.
"Paddy's Green Shamrock Shore." is a classic tale of Irish
migration to the United States which began in the 19th
century and continued into the 20th. It describes the hardships
and the heartaches associated with these travels.
I talked to Chris Lloyd to find out when their next album
would be released. Chris told me that they are currently
working on it and hope to have something out by March.
Keep your fingers crossed!

"The Book of Secrets" by Loreena McKennit

=================================================
Released in late 1997 on Loreena McKennitt's own
label, Quinlan Road. The Book of Secrets has proven,
since then, to be the Loreena's greatest commercial success,
going Platinum in the U.S. The songs were researched and
written all over the world and feature incredible stories.
The most successful songs from the album were "Skellig",
"The Highwayman", "Dante's Prayer" and "The Mummers'
Dance".

4. Celticana - "William Morris"
http://mp3.com/Celticana?cm
http://www.laurenmorris.com/
=================================================
Celticana perfomrs traditional and modern Celtic with
Americana influences and progressive Celtic rock in nature
with beautiful soprano, vocals, delicate guitars, tasty electric
violin and mandolin, keyboards and whistles.
Celticana does a fantastic job of complimenting the story
with very simple yet sweet additions of whistles and
violin as vocalist Lauren Morris sings an original story
about "William Morris". This striking tales is about her
father's capture and torture in the South Pacific during
World War II. It's the title track to the "Soldier's
Daughter" CD and highlights Lauren's excellent ability
to write music with a sound as timeless as the story.
