VICTORIA SCHULTZ JOINS THE CHIEFTAINS
Derek Bell, harpist for The Chieftains, passed away a few months
back. This has left an empty position that needs filling. Well,
in Gainesville, Florida. That harpist will be Victoria Schultz.
Victoria was scheduled to perform with world-reknown band
tonight. I'm sure she put on a fantastic performance. Congrats,
Victoria!

Canon PowerShot S30
http://amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005QFZF/thebards?ref=nosim

I got the camera a couple days ago and have been trying it
out. It is fantastic! It has ton of features from the typical
red-eye removal to AVI video recording. Plus, it works
great for taking low light shots. Unlike past digital cameras
I've used this one has a lot of customization features, as if
you wanted to take a 35mm picture. I love that. But it's just
as easy to get up and start shooting snapshots to upload to
your computer. Fantastic camera!

Jed Marum - "Return to Loch Moy"
http://mp3.com/Jed_Marum?cm

Jed is a popular American-based performer whose style is folk and
roots are Celtic. His album, "Streets of Fall River" is a
collection of original and traditional songs drawn, in large part
from the Irish immigrant experience. Some of Jed's original songs
focus on the experience of his own family; stories passed on from
great-grandfather and grandfather to grandson and son, some tell
tales taken from the immigrant and American Civil War history
books, while still others tell a more personal story. Through his
words and music Marum shines; a celebration for family, a respect
for tradition and love a for his heritage. Marum is an easy
going, humorous performer with a tale to tell and a song to sin.

I had the joy of seeing Jed Marum and Michael. He's a natural
performer and musician. "Return to Loch Moy" is a beautiful
example of this songwriting talent and his ability to mesmerize
audiences. At the Battle of Culloden, fought on Drummossy Moore
in the early 1700s - Prince Charles and the Scots supporting him
suffered a terrible defeat at the hands of the English. In this
song a young lass local to the battle sings for her love to
return to her - so they can start their life anew.

"Lunasa" by Lunasa
http://amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005LN2I/thebards?ref=nosim

In 1997, Lunasa exploded into the traditional Irish music scene
with this self-titled debut. Their music explores the subtle
fhythmic variations and harmonies often implied in old tunes. The
music is rich and vibrant and brings new life. This album
established Lunasa as one of the premiere traditional Celtic
music groups in the world, and the energy and exhuberance in the
performance shows. Pure Irish dance music. Any one who loves
Pure-Drop Irish Trad music will absolutely LOVE this CD!

Patrick Ball - "Bobby Casey's"
http://www.patrickball.com/sample.html

Patrick Ball was born and raised in California. While in school
he was irresistibly drawn to words, to the music of words, to
writers who made words sing, to writers from Ireland. He became
intrigued with Ireland's turbulent history and went to graduate
school where he fell in love with Irish oral tradition and the
Celtic harp.

He now tours extensively throughout the United States and Canada,
is considered one of the premier Celtic harpers and storytellers
in the world today. Patrick has also written and currently
performs a solo theater piece, "O'Carolan's Farewell to Music",
based on the life, times, and music of the most beloved and
celebrated musician in the history of Ireland, 17th-18th century
harper/composer Turlough O'Carolan.

"Bobby Casey's" is a beautiful harp piece found straight from
Patrick's Ball's website. One listen, and you will understand why
he's been so successful as a harpist. The sound is delicate and
empowering. You can almost see him plucking the harp. If you
can't, then come on out to the North Texas Irish Festival and see
him with a host of other great Celtic musicians.

North Texas Irish Festival
http://www.ntif.org/

Last year, the North Texas Irish Festival suffered at the hands
of horrible snow and ice in Dallas, but the Festival is back once
again to continue the tradition. Though snow and ice once again
threaten the festival, it's gonna be one helluva time for all
those who make it out this weekend to Dallas!

The North Texas Irish Festival is the largest Celtic Festival in
the Southwest. This event is produced by the Southwest Celtic
Music Association. The 2003 Festival will include live
entertainment on seven stages, music and dance exhibitions,
workshops, craft demonstrations, wandering musicians, the Urchin
Street children's area, traditional Irish food and drink,
cultural displays and much more!

NTIF 2003 is scheduled for the this weekend in the same location
at Fair Park, so come on out!
