1. Celtic Music News
=========================
"Funny you should mention in your journal today about people
spreading the proverbial "Brobdingnagian word" to other artists
out on the WWW. I did just that a couple weeks ago when you
suggested a tune by Serious Kitchen! I was so taken by their
music that I sought out their website and dropped them a line
telling them how I heard about them (ie. MARC GUNN of the infamous
Brobdingnagian Bards!). Even though I didn't ask them to,
they signed me up for their newsletter. I was MOST pleased.
Keep up your brobdingnagian work."
- Jen from Austin
Well, it's been such a busy last few months, it looks I'm gonna
have to change the way I publish this ezine if I want to keep
publishing. So for now on I'm gonna start composing a month or
two or more in advance. So I should know what's coming up with
every issue.
FOR MUSICIANS
Consequently, if you are an musician seeking a review, I now ask
that you send the following:
1. One CD (or two if you'd like a bonus feature in the giveaway),
2. Where one can download a full-length MP3 or which track to add
to my Celtic compilation Austin Celtic Association (coming soon)
that will be downloadable,
3. A biography and fact sheet about your band and upcoming
events.
If you have already sent a CD, more than likely I'll be reviewing
you in the very near future. But please contact me to find out
if I actually received your CD.
TOLKIEN MUSIC PLUG
Have you enjoyed the Brobdingnagian Bards song "Tolkien
(The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings)"? Well, I am VERY pleased to
announce that the CD is now done. We've pre-released it exclusively
to MP3.com. The final version will be officially released later
this summer as we prepare for our CD release of the album. If
you're interested in finding out more, please consider buying
a copy of the album and/or joining our Nagian Street Team.
Thanks!

Canon PowerShot S30

I got the camera a couple days ago and have been trying it
out. It is fantastic! It has ton of features from the typical
red-eye removal to AVI video recording. Plus, it works
great for taking low light shots. Unlike past digital cameras
I've used this one has a lot of customization features, as if
you wanted to take a 35mm picture. I love that. But it's just
as easy to get up and start shooting snapshots to upload to
your computer. Fantastic camera!

"Young Hunting" by seriouskitchen
http://mp3.com/seriouskitchen?cm
After "House" and "Garage" there is a new acoustic vibe on the
scene, and it's "Kitchen". After all where is the best place to
be at a party? seriouskitchen embody the folk tradition and make
it their own, from kicking jigs and reels to the most ancient of
ballads. If they haven't written it, then its stripped to the bare
ingredients and cooked up into something seriously fresh and tasty.
Based in Essex, U.K., seriouskitchen is laying down a sound that
is both traditional and contemporary with brilliant arrangements
and fantastic performances.
"Young Hunting" is one such brilliant piece from their latest album,
"Tig". It's a traditional song that tells a powerful and passionate
tale about a young man murdered by a lady scoffed by this young
hunter. Nick Hennessey's powerful and distinctive vocals
combined with Jonny Dyer's contemporary guitar sound and Vicki
Swan's delicate fluting make for an absolutely stirring piece. This
is one incredible band, and if this song doesn't convince you that
you need the album...well, there are others that will!

that combines a variety of Celtic styles. It features such magical
pieces as "Bonny Portmore" and "Lady of Shalott". But it opens

"Teenagers go Nuts" by Melbourne Scottish Fiddle Club
http://mp3.com/MelbourneScottish?cm
The Melbourne Scottish Fiddle Club is a group of people in
Melbourne, Australia, with an interest in Scottish fiddle music.
The members range in age from 10 to 70. They meet and perform
regularly. For anyone living in the Melbourne area who might be
interested in joining the club, they meet on the second Sunday of
each month at St Aidan's Uniting Church, Duggan Street, North
Balwyn. The meetings start at 2.00 PM and finish around 5.00.
They recorded their first CD in 1999, but recently completed
another that even includes a song by Celtic songwriter Eric Bogle.
"Teenager's Go Nuts" is a great track that will be on an upcoming
Celtic MP3s compilation CD and features several great reels,
including: Pierre's Right Arm (Brian Pickell), Landslide Village
(Traditional French Canadian) / Reel du Forgeron (Traditional
French Canadian). Take a listen and you'll get a glimpse of why
they named their latest album, "Reel Cool".
