1. Celtic Music News
=========================
Greetings all, once again a wee sickness has had me take another
few weeks off, but I'm trying my best to catch up.
I have made a few updates, and somehow, it seems google has at
long last decided that this site is really about 'Celtic music',
so at last it's getting some extra recognition. If you have a
website, please considering linking to my site.
Today, we've split the MP3s into traditional and contemporary.
The Stationary Willberries are an awesome Celtic folk band with
a great song from the Isle of Mann. While, Mongoose is a Irish
rock from a band on their first world tour.
In other news, I just got word from Scottish folk band, 3 Pints
Gone, has finally released their second CD, "Health to the
Company". They're official release is in March in Milwaukee.
Check out for http://www.3pintsgone.com/ . I'll definitely check
into see if I can feature them in an upcoming issue! Meanwhile,
go buy the CD!
Oh, and here's an interesting one. I got a CD from Raymond
McCullough who recently released an EP called 'The Great China
Bike Ride' which includes an absolutely fascinating mix of Chinese
and contemporary Irish songwriting. His website seems to be down,
but you can find out more about him at

"Pride of Purt la Morra" by The Stationary Willberries
Blues, Folk, Country, Oldies done the Isle of Man way!
Why are they stationary ? Some say that they don't travel,
and indeed they are at home in "The Mitre", a welcoming hostelry
in Kirk Michael on the west coast of the Isle of Man, just
across the water from Ireland. However you will sometimes find
them far away from their island home.
Yeah, it's not often I find Celtic folk songs from outside
Ireland and Scotland, but I was really happy when The Stationary
Willberries introduced me to "Pride of Purt la Morra" which means
"The Pride of Port St. Mary", a fun Manx song about a big
headed man who is capable of anything and sure of his status
in the community. With some rousing sing-along-able lyrics and
tasty accordian bits.

"Another Day" by Solas
http://amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000CC4V6/thebards
Solas is already acclaimed by many as the most exciting Irish
traditional group in the world. They interpret a wide range of
material in surprising ways; songs by contemporary artists are
given a Celtic tinge, making explicit their connections with the
deep, ultimately Celtic roots of American music.
"Another Day" is wonderful contemporary Celtic album that
combines traditional Irish music with modern sounds from gypsy
swing to contemporary pop, ultimately creating something that
brilliantly enjoyable to listen or tap your feet to.

4. Celtic Music Band Feature #2
=========================
"A Moment In Time" by Mongoose
In County Kerry, Ireland, a group started a few musicians got
together and came up with an aggressive idea for a band. The
band was named Mongoose and from it came a contemporary Irish
rock band who's big story begins in Sydney, Australia.
The story began when they decided to film a rockumentary of their
world tour which began in mid-November 2003. The tour began in
Australia, took them into New Zealand and Fiji, then on to the
United States from California to Arizona, Texas to New Orleans,
New York and Boston, and finishing up in Toronto, Canada before
they head home.
Right before the left they recorded a few original tracks. Though
I'm kinda hard-pressed to call them Celtic, they've some well-
written, rockin' songs, including "A Moment In Time" which has
some amazing mandolin playing. And for this reason alone, I'd
say stop by and give this song a listen.
