CELTIC MUSIC NEWS
=========================

Greetings Celtic Music Lover,

I hope you're having a wonderful holiday season. Mine was kicked off
last week with snow in Louisiana. We got six inches of snow and our
power was out for three days. Having lived in Texas for the last 26
years, what a trip that was. It was a perfect start to my Christmas
celebrations.

My first gift to myself is finding an apartment in the Lower Garden
District of New Orleans. Now I just need to find a few shows so I
can start gigging there.

CELTIC CHRISTMAS
Hey! Ever wonder what it would be like to have Christmas in Killarney,
or anywhere in Ireland? Check out this article at the Irish Fireside.

Christmas in Ireland

And if you're looking for Celtic Christmas music, traditions and
more, check out my new Celtic Christmas website.

IRISH & CELTIC MUSIC PODCAST - CHRISTMAS EDITION
http://www.celticmusicpodcast.com/
For those who are wondering, I hope to record my Celtic Christmas
special today. So it should be out by the end of the week. In the
meantime, check out the Cleveland Celtic Podcast. Wendy will have
TWO fantastic Christmas shows this year.

GIVE THE GIFT OF CELTIC MUSIC FOR CHRISTMAS
A couple days ago, someone emailed telling me they wanted to buy
a Premiere Membership for their child for Christmas. I never
thought to offer gift cards. But you can do it yourself. Just
sign up as a Premiere Member, and we can make it happen.

NEW STREET TEAM
A week or so ago, I setup a brand new mailing list for the Celtic
MP3s Music Magazine and the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast at
Reverbnation where I host my personal mailing list. It offers a
special section for street teams. I think I will be discontinuing
my Celtic Promotions YahooGroup to take advantage of this great
service.

If you are not yet subscribed, unsubscribe to your current list
and then sign up at reverbnation. You will also be able to sign
up to the street team while you are there.

MOVING TO NEW ORLEANS
If you listened to the last Irish & Celtic Music Podcast, you heard
I was moving to New Orleans! My apartment is almost packed up, and
I have less than a week to go.

I want to thank all the well-wishers out there. This is an exciting
time for me with lots of big changes coming. If you're in the New
Orleans area, keep an eye on my website, I hope to have some regular
gigs there. But for the next month, I'll be at the Louisiana
Renaissance Festival performing for the wine and whiskey tastings.
Don't miss it!

NEWS FOR BARDS FANS
Some of my biggest news of recent is that Andrew and I will no
longer be performing at the Brobdingnagian Bards. We have three
more shows for the year, then we will start focusing our energies
on individual projects. Andrew is forming a new band, and I will
continue to write and record music and podcasts. You can read all
about it and my plans for the future.

I've wasted no time working on new music. In fact, I am
releasing a new EP of songs next month that I recorded with my
cat CD producer, Rich Brotherton. This EP features a couple of
traditional songs alongside a couple of original songs. The
physical CD will Not be for sale. In fact, the only way you
can own a copy is to get it free. Expect to hear some of my
new music on an upcoming Irish & Celtic Music Podcast.

CELTIC MUSIC NEWS

Greetings Celtic Music Lover,

I made some big changes to the Celtic MP3s Music Magazine last
month. You may not easily see them on the website, but my goal
was to make it easier for you to find the content of the magazine.

Here is what's new:

  1. The homepage now has a direct link to http://www.celticmp3s.com/free/
where all the free downloads and reviews are available.

  2. You can now subscribe to the blog RSS feed by adding
  http://feeds.feedburner.com/celticmp3s to your favorite blog
  reader.

Or best of all,

  3. Get a daily email update of the blog featuring the latest
  Celtic MP3s and reviews.
http://www.feedburner.com/fb/a/emailverifySubmit?feedId=1426843&loc=en_US

That last one is extra cool. Instead of waiting once a month for
your downloads, you can get them once a day as they are released.
How cool is that? Sign up and find out!

WHISKERS IN THE JAR: IRISH SONGS FOR CAT LOVERS
Fans of Irish music and cats have waited nearly nearly three
years for the completion of the second installment of Irish
songs for cat lovers. "Whiskers in the Jar" is my latest
offering. It features 14 tracks of Irish music and is already
pulling in the purring reviews from fans.

"This is a GREAT CD not just for cat lovers but for
everyone who enjoys folk music. The lyrics are fun and
original and the music is lively. Whenever I listen to
it I wind up in a good mood." --MaryLou Griffith

The CD is now waiting to be adopted by you at CD Baby. They
also make fantastic gifts for your cat loving friends. Want

CELTIC MUSIC NEWS
=========================

Greetings Celtic Music Lover,

Ireland was magnificient. But then I'm sure you know that.
Coming from hot, 100 degree weather in Texas and arriving to
50s and 60s was sheer perfection. Perfect temperature, beautiful
lush, green, landscape, fantastic people, great food, amazing
drinks. *sigh* I'm ready to go back.

My absolute favorte place to visit on this trip was
Gougane Barra, a lush green valley in Southeast Ireland with
a beautiful lake and 6th century stone church. It was peaceful
and serene. We had lunch beneath a stone circle. We sang songs
late into the night in Leenane. We soulfully danced and played
through Brigit's Garden. We ate and drank like Irish kings.
Well, you get the idea. If you want to see pictures from the
trip or read my Ireland blog, please enjoy.

The one downside to the trip was I caught a cold near the end.
That turned into a sore throat when I got home and laryngitis
that I just now got over. I spent the last two weeks sleeping
trying to recover. Consequently, I only released one podcast
in the past two weeks. It was my personal podcast, the
Pub Songs Podcast, recorded live from Ireland.

I'm feeling better now which means it's time to celebrate the...

THREE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE IRISH & CELTIC MUSIC PODCAST
Yes, July 28th marks the three-year anniversary of the podcast.
Fifty-one episodes are currently up. I hope to post show fifty-
two tomorrow at the latest. Then I'm gonna try to plug out a
bunch more shows.

Last month, I mentioned the the Celtic Mini-Podcasts. Well,
I found out that the People's Choice Podcast Award Nominations
don't open until September instead of July like last year. So
I'm gonna delay those mini-podcasts until then. If you'd like
to submit some Celtic Mini-Podcast show ideas, there's an open
discussion in the Song Henge forum for members. But you can
also email me mini-show ideas. We're talking 4-5 song shows
featuring a specific topic, like fiddle, gaelic singing,
bagpipes, drinking songs, etc.. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Again, looks like you will have to wait until September for
those shows to kick in. So head on over to the Song Henge forum
and submit show ideas. I'd like to get those prepared as soon
as possible.

Stay tuned for a new Irish & Celtic Music Podcast very soon!

CELTIC MUSIC NEWS

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,

It is a busy time for me. In two weeks, I hop an airplane to
Ireland for the last Brobdingnagian Bards Tour of Ireland. I
can't wait too. Good friends, beautiful landscape, wonderful
people and great drink. Guinness, stock up cuz here I come!

IRISH & CELTIC MUSIC MINI-PODCAST
Ten days on the road with unknown internet connections, I am
trying to make sure my podcasts are all up-to-date. I just
finished show #50 and the shownotes for #51 are done as well.

That preparation got me thinking about the summer. July marks
the 3-year anniversary of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast
and also the PodCastAwards. I thought a good way to celebrate
AND pimp the podcast was to put together Celtic Mini-Podcasts.

The podcasts will be short shows that highlight specific
topics throughout the month of July on a much more frequent
basis. I'm still working out the details, but the ultimate
goal is to spread the word about the podcast and to win Best
Podsafe Music in the PodCast Awards.

So keep an eye open next month when I share more details
this three-year anniversary promotion.

GOING FOR BROGUE: IRISH PUB SONGS AND SEA SHANTIES
A while back, I threw together a few recordings of Irish songs
for my Irish Songs & Lyrics website. Those recordings are now
on a new compilation CD called "Going for Brogue", and I just
got word that the CD was shipped Friday. Stay tuned!

"Whiskers in the Jar: Irish Songs for Cat Lovers", my latest
CD combining my love of Celtic music and cats should be shipped
any day now as well. So everyone who pre-ordered the CD, it
will be here soon!

You can pre-order both those albums here:

CELTIC MUSIC NEWS

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,
Everyone have a safe and happy St. Patrick's Day? I wish I could
say I did. Nothing worse than getting the flu on your birthday
and such a fun holiday. Ah well, I made the best of it. And even
finished two killer Irish & Celtic Music Podcasts which rocked
the charts on iTunes.

I am finally just about back to full health again. It was a
long month of recovery. I feel pretty good now and I'm finally
catching up on a lot of overdue projects. I should have a new
Celtic podcast out shortly.

Irish & Celtic Music Podcast
http://www.celticmusicpodcast.com/

HAPPY VICTIMS OF IRISH MUSIC
One of the exciting things for me that happened over
St. Patrick's Day was the climb of last year's Victims of
Irish Music compilation to #13 on the iTunes World Music charts.
With a special feature from iTunes, the amazing artists on this
album were exposed to tons of Irish music fans. With any luck,
each band has earned scores of new fans themselves. A special
thanks to everyone who picked up a copy of that CD over the
holiday. That was a great way to support independent Celtic
music.

Victims of Irish Music

WHISKERS IN THE JAR: IRISH SONGS FOR CAT LOVERS
The new CD is finished and off to the printers. Those who
adopted the early copies of the album are already laying out
there love and excitement for the new CD.

The final album will be released late May. But you can download
three free tracks from the album and pre-order your copy at
www.catdrinkingsongs.com. If you love cats and you love Celtic
music, you will adore this CD.

Well, that's about all the news for now. I'm sure I forgot
something, but what's new. Hey! If you want to find out more
about me and my music projects, check out my website at
www.marcgunn.com.

Tthanks for being a part of the Celtic MP3s Music Magazine.
I hope you find a ton of great bands and continue to support

CELTIC MUSIC NEWS
=========================

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,

St. Patrick's Day is almost here. And I'm really looking forward
to it as usual, partially because it's a wonderful opportunity
for great music and gigs, and partially because March 17th is
my birthday. W00t!

If you're in Austin, you will find a nice list of St. Patrick's
Day events listed at http://www.stpatricksdayparty.net/ .

IRISH SONGS FOR CAT LOVERS
Thusfar, I've had little time to think about St. Patrick's Day
though, because I spent February recording my follow-up to the
popular CD, "Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers". The new
album is called "Whiskers in the Jar: Irish Songs for Cat Lovers".
I recorded it with Rich Brotherton, who also produced albums here
in Austin by Ed Miller and The Tea Merchants. It sounds amazing!

The final album will be out in late April. You can download three
free tracks from the album and pre-order your copy at
www.catdrinkingsongs.com. If you love cats and you love Celtic
music, you will adore this CD.

CELTIC MUSIC FOR ST. PATRICK'S DAY
While the cat CD took up most my time for February, I'm now
preparing a couple new shows for the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast
to once again celebrate all the amazing music of Celts around the
world. I even have a cool theme coming up, Celtic Music from
Second (and greater) generation Celtic disaspora.

I was looking at a Celtic radio show playlist just the other day,
and saw all these great bands from Ireland and Scotland, but NONE
from America, Canada, Australia, Germany, Italy, Czech Republic,
Brazil. The Celts are now ALL over the world. And it seems a
pitty to me that more of their music is not heard. So one of
these next shows will be dedicated to those deserved musicians.

If you're not subscribed to the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast
(a podcast is just an MP3 that you can download for free), then
head on over to www.celticmusicpodcast.com and find out how to
subscribe and get the music delivered to you as soon as it is
released!

I also want to thank everyone who picked up a copy of "Victims
of Irish Music". The CD is skyrocketing this year, especially on
iTunes where it is currently #70 of the most-popular World music CDs.

VACATION TOUR OF IRELAND
The Brobdingnagian Bards Vacation Tour of Ireland deadline is
now past. However, we still have a few more spaces available.
So it is not too late to join the most memorable tour of
Ireland you will ever experience. Hurry on over and find out
how you can become a part of Ireland.

AUSTIN MUSIC POLL
I want to thank EVERYONE who helped me out by voting in the
Austin Music Poll. The results will be published right before
St. Patrick's Day. And while I don't know for sure if we won,
we have had our third invite to attend the Austin Music Awards.
So thank you, thank you, thank you!

And a special thanks for being a part of the Celtic MP3s Music
Magazine. I hope you find a ton of great music and continue to
support independent Celtic music for many, many years to come.

CELTIC MUSIC NEWS
=========================

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,

Happy New Year! I hope your holidays were awesome! I had a
great time flying to Germany where I played in an Irish pub in
Rudesheim. Now THAT was an experience. Especially since I don't
speak a speck of German.

For New Years (known as Hogmanay in Scotland), I got all creative
and recorded "Auld Lang Syne" for my MarcSongs Podcast. I even
found a translation for some of that difficult to understand
Scots.

BEST CELTIC MUSIC OF 2007
It's that time of year for 'Best Of' lists. So I asked Catherine
Tully to post her favorite albums of 2007. And voila! They are
up along with another one by Austin Celtic Storm DJ, Donnelle
McKaskle.

See the Best Celtic Albums of 2007
http://www.celticmp3s.com/magazine/

And I posted the top voted songs in the last the latest Irish
& Celtic Music Podcast. I should have a new show up soon which
will include more music from those well-loved artists.

LAST CHANCE TO JOIN THE BARDS 2008 VACATION TOUR OF IRELAND
Ever wanted to go to Ireland. My band is taking a bunch of
Celtophiles to Ireland in June for a fantastic, non-touristy
trip to some of the hidden gemms of Ireland. The deadline is
January 23rd. Come join me!

VOTE FOR CELTIC MUSIC - ONE FINAL WEE REQUEST
The Austin Music Poll is back. Last year, my band won an award
thanks to your help, as did The Tea Merchants. I'd like to ask
for your help once again. Anyone in the world can vote in the
Austin Music Poll, but only Austin bands can win. So I posted
a few suggestions for other Celtic artists who I enjoy. Please
vote Celtic in this year's Poll. I'm still hoping we'll win
Best Folk Band.

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,

I am in Louisiana right. My band, the Brobdingnagian Bards, are
performing at a festival here so I've been a little slow at getting
this newsletter out. But it is here at last! Thank you for
subscribing and for telling your friends.

Oh! And I am heading to Germany in December. So with any luck
I may have a gig or two or at the very least meet some Celtic
musicians while I'm there.

NEW SEARCH ENGINE AT THE IRISH & CELTIC MUSIC PODCAST
I had a recent request to add a search engine to the Irish
& Celtic Music Podcast. So it is now up. You can search the
website for bands you heard and listen to them in each
show. Check it out at http://www.celticmusicpodcast.com/

CELTIC CHRISTMAS MUSIC
Christmas is just around the corner, and I am getting CDs and
emails about new Celtic Christmas albums. So I bought a new
domain to highlight those CDs. It's at
http://www.celticchristmasmusic.net/

Right now, it links to an old Celtic Christmas page. But if
you have any suggestions for CDs that should go on the site,
please email me.

Also, I am looking for Celtic Christmas music for a special
edition of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. If you know of an
Independent Celtic group with Christmas music, ask them to
submit at http://www.celticmp3s.com/submit/ .

BROBDINGNAGIAN BARDS 2008 VACATION TOUR OF IRELAND
Booking for our 2008 tour to Ireland is currently underway. Don't
miss out on this great trip where you will experience Kerry.

Think of Kerry, you may think of Ring Of Kerry, but we are
travelling through the Bearra Peninsula, the most beautiful
peninsula in Ireland. We will visit 5000 year old stone circles
in mountain and waterfall valleys and travel down the beautiful
spiralling Healy Pass that famine refugess built to reach food.

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,

Hola! Did everyone have a great Six Months Till St. Patrick's Day
Celebration? Or what I like to call the Six Months Till Marc's
Birthday Celebration? I was in New Jersey playing a wedding. So I
missed most of the partying, but I heard Things Celtic, here in
Austin, had a cool Kilt Fashion Show that I wish I could've
attended. Maybe next year.

ST PATRICK'S DAY 2008 MOVED!
Speaking of St. Patrick's Day, I have some SHOCKING NEWS for 2008.
St. Patrick's Day will NOT be on March 17th!

According to the Vatican Easter Sunday is a early next year, on
March 23rd. Thus, Holy Week should start on March 17th. I think
the Church can't have a Saint's holiday during Holy Week. So Saint
Paddy's Day was moved to March 15th by the Pope.

Despite that, everyone on my Livejournal plans to celebrate St.
Patrick's Day on the 17th as usual. As for me, I'm more in favor
of saying, "Awesome! Let's have Two Days of Partying!"

Celtic Ways. He's gonna take us to some of the hidden gems of
Ireland. If you want to experience a tour like no other, join

TOP THE CHARTS
http://www.celticmusicpodcast.com/topthecharts/
I finally talked to Cady Finlayson who was the first Celtic artist
on the Top the Charts feature of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast.
Cady said she was thrilled to see a definite spike in sales on
June 15th. It wasn't enough for her to Top the Charts. But that was
our first shot! We're gonna do it again on October 15th.

Bookmark the Top the Charts page. We'll have details posted very
soon!

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,

Sorry for the delay in getting this newsletter out. I'm soooo far
behind after an absolutely brilliant trip to Ireland back in June.
I posted some audio clips from the trip in the last Irish & Celtic
Music Podcast. And if you'd like to see some of my pictures, you
can see them at Flickr.

I am already planning our next trip. So stay tuned for more info
about that coming soon...

A couple quick updates:

Top The Charts seemed to go over well with people, but as I was
out of the country I was unable to find out how well Cady did
on the charts. I'm gonna plan another one of those in the near
future. And we'll see what we can do then.

I've been pleasantly surprised with the success of my newest
CD, "Irish Drinking Songs: The Cat Lover's Companion". I
released the album in the middle of June and have had dozens
of happy reviews for the new CD. So thanks to those of you
who posted reviews at iTunes and CDBaby.

CELTIC MUSIC NEWS
=========================

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,

I love it when I'm working at a festival or something and some
complete stranger walks up to me and says, "Hey! Thanks for sending
me free downloads every month". That happened this weekend from a
reader of the Celtic MP3s Music Magazine.

It made me feel nice. I love sharing music. I love helping bands.
And I love to know that you are getting something valuable out of
the work I do on- and offline.

To the end of helping bands, I started something new. It's called
Top The Charts. The plan is to help an independent Celtic artist
climb to the top of the charts on iTunes.

What's it about? I would like you to go to the Top The Charts
website at the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast website and purchase
an MP3 on the 15th of every month. By doing so, we will send one
Celtic artist to Top the Charts. It will only cost you 99 cents.
So I hope you'll help this month's Chart Topper--Cady Finlayson.

Top The Charts

Speaking of independent Celtic groups, don't forget to check out
"Victims of Irish Music". That is my latest Celtic compilation
of instrumental Celtic music. You can read the many glowing
reviews about it at CD Baby.

OFF TO IRELAND TOMORROW
The biggest news for me is that tomorrow, June 6th, I will be
on a plane to Ireland. The Brobdingnagian Bards vacation tour
starts this week. Wow! I'm barely ready, but I wanted to get
this newsletter out before I left.

I also wanted to let you know that my latest solo CD is out.
It's called "Irish Drinking Songs: The Cat Lover's Companion".
The album features all the original Irish songs that I parodied
on my CD, "Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers".

I was hoping to do some big promotion to see if I could push
this CD up the charts by having you purchase the album on June
6th, the official release date. I haven't done nearly as much
promotion as I had hoped. But if you enjoy this magazine, my
music, or any of my other projects promoting Celtic music, I
hope you'll consider picking up an album or two. They make
great gifts. ;)

CELTIC MUSIC NEWS
=========================

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,

Was March a wild month for everyone or just me? What with
St. Patrick's Day, podcasts, and gigs, I was swamped. But I am
pleased to announce that the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast did, in
fact, climb to the #1 spot of iTunes music podcasts and stayed in
the top five all month. There are over 10K subscribers and forty
thousands downloads of each show. One listener played the podcast
in a St. Patrick's Day parade. Too cool! I want to thank all of
you for more making it #1!

Irish & Celtic Music Podcast
http://www.celticmusicpodcast.com/

One thing I found that was fascinating last month was CD sales
were down. Last year, my indie label, Mage Records sold twice as
many CDs. So I'm still waiting for the iTunes results to come in
to see if there were significantly greater sales of digital music.

Undaunted by lower physical sales, I'm pleased to announce that
"Victims of Irish Music", my new Celtic compilation of Irish
instrumentals is now at last available on CD Baby. And it should
be up on iTunes any day now.

Victims of Irish Music
http://cdbaby.com/cd/victimsirishmusic/from/celtic/

Meantime, I have several new MP3s for you listed below. I hope you
enjoy the music and if so, please rememeber to support independent
bands that you love by buying their music when you can.

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,

St. Patrick's Day is almost here, and as promised, I finished
my annual article "17 Free Irish & Celtic Music Downloads for
St. Patrick's Day". But I'll get to that in a moment...

First, I want to thank YOU for voting for the Brobdingnagian
Bards in the Austin Music Awards. Last night, we won Best None
of the Above Band. I guess you could say we defy description
in the general music scene. But I know better. We play the
music we love! But thank you if you did take the time to vote
for us. It means a lot.

Second, I'm happy to announce that Victims of Irish Music
is now officially on sale. The CDs haven't been processed by
CDBaby yet, but they arrived a few days ago. And people are
going ga-ga over the album already. I want to thank everyone
who contributed to this outstanding compilation!

Victims of Irish Music
http://www.celticmusicpodcast.com/victims_irish_music.shtml

Third, the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast is at #4 on iTunes
Music Charts and climbing. Woohoo! I hope to finish the St.
Patrick's Day two-hour special tomorrow featuring many of
the songs that you'll be downloading below.

Irish & Celtic Music Podcast
http://www.celticmusicpodcast.com/

Last, your downloads...

Every year for St. Patrick's Day, I compile a new list of
St Patrick's Day MP3 downloads that are 100% free and legal.
This year, I decided to present them in a new format. This
year, all the files are compiled like a gigantic digital
compilation CD. I ZIP the files up and you just need to
download one file.

And if you were ever wondering what Song Henge is like.
Well, now you have a better idea. Every month, I compile MP3
submissions into one of these ZIP files and send it out to
hundreds of subscribers. Oh! And remember, at the end of the
month, I'm switching to an annual fee. So you still have time
to take advantage of the lifetime subscription fee for under
twenty dollars.

CELTIC MUSIC NEWS
=========================

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,

My apologies for the huge delay in ezines. I think this is one
of those many reasons why I need to find people to manage
different aspects of the magazine. I have a bad habit of doing
too much. But sometimes, it pays off!

Today, in fact, the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast blasted its
way up the podcast charts on iTunes. It's now the #2 most-
popular music podcast and the #22 most-popular podcast in the
world! Is that awesome or what?! And St Patrick's Day hasn't
even arrived yet. Just think what we can accomplish. So to
everyone who listens, I thank you.

Irish & Celtic Music Podcast
http://www.celticmusicpodcast.com/

That's not to say I don't have some great people working with
me and the magazine. You'll notice a LOT of new MP3s in the
free downloads section of the magazine. The blog went down
last month, but Karen, who's leading the effort of establishing
an offline Celtic music magazine, helped me get everything
back up as soon as the blog came back online.

The Celtic Music Awards went off without a hitch. And I should
release the winners in the very near future. And I hope to
finally start sending out Celtic CD Giveaway winners their
prizes soon too. My apologies for the delay.

All in all, there's a lot to do so I thank you for your
continued support. Take care and I'll talk to you soon.

Slainte!

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,

And Happy Holidays. The season is on us and it's a busy season
indeed for me. I have an Irish & Celtic Music Podcast coming
out in a few days and then I'm gonna dig through my wintery
Celtic music to put together a show in time for Christmas. Then
I'm back on the road. Mostly to visit family, but I hope to
organize a few house concerts after Christmas in the Virginia
area while I'm out there. If you want to find out more you can
always check out my Myspace page.

Marc at Myspace
http://www.myspace.com/marcgunn

Also, the 2006 Celtic Music Awards are now on us. In fact, you
have just one more month to vote for your favorite Celtic music
groups. The votes are pouring in. So make sure you recognize your
favorite group.

Celtic Music Awards of 2006
http://www.celticmp3s.com/awards/

Well, I hope your holidays are filled with cheer. Thanks for
your continual support of independent Celtic music. And why not
consider buying Celtic music from your favorite artist and
sharing it with your friends.

CELTIC MUSIC NEWS
=========================

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,

I hope you had a Happy Halloween and Samhain. This year is
flying by. The Celtic Music Awards are up and running. We've
already had more votes than last year. I'm hoping for an even
better turnout and selection of music with the increased
categories to vote for.

If you haven't voted yet, head on over and cast your vote for
your favorite Celtic music groups and websites. Course, I'm a
big fan of independent music, but you feel free to vote for
whoever you like.

- Celtic Music Awards
http://www.celticmp3s.com/awards/

I've also thrown around the idea of starting an offline Celtic
Music Magazine to highlight many the great Celtic groups in
the U.S. and Canada. I've gathered a bunch of folks interested
in the idea. I don't know if it'll happen yet, but if you're
interested in being a part of it, email Karen the editor at
karen@....

Many thanks for your continue support of the Celtic MP3s Music
Magazine and Celtic music in general. Slainte!

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,

My apologies once again that I haven't written sooner. I really need
to find a dedicated Magazine Editor to make sure this mag gets out
on a regular basis. If you're interested, let me know.

Meanwhile, it's been a busy month. I spent most of July on the road
and found lots of new Celtic music fans out there. There's a lot of
people listening to the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast out there.
That's one of the reasons I decided to bring back the Great Celtic
CD Giveaway through the podcast. If you haven't listened, do so.
It's the only way to win an iPod or a bunch of CDs.

CELTIC MUSIC NEWS
=========================

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,

I want to take a moment to thank everyone who signed up to the Irish
& Celtic Music Podcast last month. I was astounded to see it climb
to #23 on the iTunes Music Podcast Charts. That is just awesome.
Thank you!

It also got me thinking. Podcasting is a relatively new forum. It
was only a year and a half ago when the Celtic Music News Podcast
first started up. And maybe a year before that before podcasting
was first catching the public's eye.

With a new forum like this, there is a great opportunity to make
a difference. So I want to pump up the promotion for the show. If
you have a website or a blog, please do me a small favor. Add the
following link to your website and ask others to do the same

  <a href="http: //www.celticmusicpodcast.com/">Irish & Celtic
  Music Podcast</a>

While the number of Celtic podcasts are growing (I invited the
Celtic Folk Music Podcast to the Celtic Podcasters Network just
this week), we still have a long way to go. I currently have
over 3,000 regular subscribers according to feedburner. That
equates to over 13,000 downloads of each show according to libsyn.
I want to see if I can turn that 3,000 into 10,000.

Imagine for a moment opening iTunes and looking at the Music
Podcast Top 100 and seeing the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast at #1.
#1 over NPR's All Songs Considered. #1 over MTV News or eve iTunes
News Music Podcast. We can make the podcasting world take a second
glance at Irish music that it won't soon forget.

So please take a moment to Subscribe to the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast
http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=77407482&s=1434\
41

Oh! And if you aren't subscribed to my Pub Songs Podcast, I restarted it.
It's format has changed into my own personal podcast. But in every show
you will hear a good pub song with which you can sing-a-long.

Many thanks for your continue support of the Celtic MP3s Music
Magazine and Celtic music in general. Slainte!

CELTIC MUSIC NEWS
=========================

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,

Last week, I was perusing iTunes when I saw that the Irish & Celtic
Music Podcast was the #26 most-popular music podcast there. I was a
bit blown away. That is just amazing. And it makes my heart smile.
This was just after I released my feature on Celtic Women. The women
featured are almost entirely independent.

I face a difficult challenge as a writer. My goal is to promote
independent Celtic music, to help out those bands who don't have the
money or means to help themselves. There are a lot of great bands
signed to major labels who send me music. But they have support. They
don't need my help. It's the independents, those ladies in my Celtic
Women feature and those who we feature in the magazine, they are the
ones who need my support.

So to hear that I am making a difference, that I am reaching thousands
of people, that really makes my heart soar. If you are not currently
subscribed to the podcast, download iTunes and subscribe. That will help
Celtic music climb into the Top 25 and get even more exposure than ever.

Subscribe to the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast

Remember, if you like what you hear, tell the artist, and buy a CD. That
small effort goes a long way.

Many thanks for your continue support of the Celtic MP3s Music
Magazine and Celtic music in general. Slainte!

CELEBRATION OF CELTS 2007
http://www.celebrationofcelts.com/
I was hoping to get a wee bit more information about this small festival
in New York. But time just flew by. Nevertheless, they are going out of
their way to keep the Celtic music tradition alive and evolving. This
year, they have a lot of great music from Quagmyre, Barleyjuice, Coyote
Run, Greenwich Meantime, Hair of the Dog and many more. Go check out
these independent groups and show your support for the festival.

CELTIC MUSIC NEWS
=========================

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,

Well, things are finally settling down now that St. Patrick's Day.
It was a huge month for Celtic music, my band, and my magazine
and podcast. I received a record number of hits. In fact, the
St. Patrick's Day Podcast had over 11,000 downloads!

Now I finally finished my next big event. The 1st Annual Celtic
Music Awards. There were about 4,000 votes in this year's awards.
Admittedly, it wasn't the most-diverse competition in musical
styles. Celtic rock bands seem to understand better the need to
promote themselves. So a big congrats to all those who did just
that and reaped the rewards!

I am starting to compile more categories for the 2006 awards. If
you have a category suggestion, please make tell me. You can do
so in the Celtic Radio Forum
http://www.celticradio.net/php/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=1&t=8845

Last, I am happy to welcome Michael Madison as a new Assistant
Editor for the Celtic MP3s Music Magazine. After reading responses
from subscribers, I decided that there's still a huge demand for
this magazine. So it will continue to grow with the help of
editors. You can find additional details below.

Many thanks for your continue support of the Celtic MP3s Music
Magazine and Celtic music in general. Slainte!

CELTIC MUSIC NEWS

Happy St Patrick's Day Celtic Music Lovers,

Whoa! I'm exhausted. For the past week, I've done a LOT of
promotion for my ezine, Song Henge, and my Irish & Celtic Music
Podcast. Plus, I did some extra shows this month in the podcast.
Now I'm just wiped. I'm ready for St. Patrick's Day to arrive
so I can celebrate my birthday, a great holiday, and relax with
a pint.

I spent today finishing up a St. Patrick's Edition of A
Brobdingnagian Minute, the podcast of the Brobdingnagian Bards.
That was heckuva lot of fun. Tomorrow, I'll try and finish up
my St. Patrick's Day edition of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast.

But just moments ago, I FINALLY finished my annual 17 St Patrick's
Day Free Music Downloads article. I'm sure you're anxious to hear
all the great music. So go download now and have a brilliant St.
Patrick's Day.

Oh! And if you have a moment to raise a toast to my birthday,
that'd make me happy to. :)

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,

Once again, it's been a while since I've written. During that
time, I jumped head first into my new Irish & Celtic Music
Podcast which is now going out twice a month with over 4,000
downloads of each show.

Yet, in my excitement to start promoting bands in the podcast,
I forgot to mention something important to my readers…

---

ANNOUNCING THE 1ST ANNUAL CELTIC MUSIC AWARDS!
http://www.celticmp3s.com/awards/
I started the Celtic Music Awards in the middle of last month.
The goal is to give Celtic music groups the recognition they
deserve. But to make a difference I need your input.

Do you have a favorite group(s)?
Go to the website and vote for them.
If you have a friend that likes your favorite band, email them
too. Tell them to go to the website and vote.
If you're in a band, tell your fans to vote for you.

The voting process ends on January 31st. Once it's over, I will
compile the results. I will contact any winners from whom I need
music. At the beginning of March, I will host a show featuring
all the winners!

---

VOTE FOR US IN THE AUSTIN MUSIC POLL
http://thebards.net/links/Austin_Chronicle_Poll.shtml
The Austin Music Poll also finishes up on January 31st. Since the
Brobdingnagian Bards are not eligible to win in the Celtic Music
Awards, please help show your support for us and also for my Irish
& Celtic Music Podcastd by voting for us in the Austin Music Poll.
You don't have to be from Austin to vote.

Thank you!

THE AMAZING RETURN OF CELTIC STONE

The former Celtic giant of the Renaissance festival music
circuit is back, well sort of. With the help of my record label,
Mage Records, we are re-releasing their last CD called Digital

available albums.

1. Celtic Music News
=========================

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,

Happy holidays! No. I haven't forgotten you. The Celtic MP3s
Music Magazine is in a transitional phase, but it's still here.

I started this magazine five and a half years ago as a way to
promote independent Celtic music groups. For a number of years,
I struggled as a musician trying to get some sort of recognition.
Now the Brobdingnagian Bards have a secure fan base which allows
me to do music full-time.

I've always found it rewarding to help other struggling musicians
who want my help. But I face a lot of challenges. Many musicians
are still leary of MP3s. I had one rather well-known songwriter
tell me to remove a link I had to his website. That sort of
attitude towards MP3s makes it difficult to effectively promote
my website, but then there are others are amazing at telling
others about this site.

The other problem I have is that I only have space to feature
two bands in each issue. That means I can only "help" eight bands
per month, and I either don't have time for new releases or I
have to skip some bands. I don't like that. I needed a better
outlet.

When I learned about podcasting a few months ago, I found what
I needed, an exciting new outlet. It's not the best thing out
there, but it serves me well. I get to listen to lots of great
music and help a lot more bands.

So what's the point of all this? The point is that in the next
issue the format of the magazine will change a wee bit. And I'm
not yet sure how often I will publish it. Instead of posting
features in each ezine, I'll probably just link to my features
online. I'm still just not sure. I do plan to publish my Irish
& Celtic Music Podcast more frequently, however (I'm up to
Show #7). I also plan to reorganize my CelticMP3s.com website
to reflect some of these changes.

But I would love to hear your comments and feedback.

CELTIC BAND FEATURE #1
=========================

"Dance of the Honeybees" by Athas

After finding one another amongst the many local Irish sessions
and then forging fast friendships, Heather Lewin-Tiarks, Amy
Richter, and Jeff Ksiazek joined together as Milwaukee's latest
Irish Trad band, áthas. The name áthas (Irish for joy and
gladness) suits them perfectly--it's pretty near impossible to
catch them not laughing, joking, or spreading joy through their
music.

The musicians of áthas play various Traditional and non-Trad
instruments such as fiddle, flute, bodhrán, viola, cello,
whistles, saxophone, djembe, and guitar. áthas can be spotted
at local Trad sessions, pubs, ceilis, and other venues and
festivals.

As of late they've become "regulars" to the weekly Set Dance
held at O'Donoghues on Wednesday's from 8-10pm. The band has
been working hard to revivie the Celtic Music Club at UWM and
have started up sessions in venues other than Irish Pubs, such
as the Good Harvest Market, UW-Milwaukee and The Milwaukee
Repertory Theatre. The band has a strong desire to spread the
music and keep it alive.

"The Days of Abundance" by The Barley Boys

by Catherine L. Tully

Artist: The Barley Boys
http://www.thebarleyboys.com/
Album: "The Days of Abundance"
Year produced: 2005

The one thing that you will notice about The Barley Boys is that
they have a lot of energy, and they bring it to their music. The
Days of Abundance is a combination of traditional Celtic sounds
and more contemporary music, and the musicianship is quite good.
Sometimes, such as track 4, Life Divine, the song highlights the
music and just goes with it for a bit, rather than trying too
hard to be a sing along type of tune. It is nice.

I hate to pick favorites, but I can't help but tell you that
Raggle Taggle Gypsy was such a high energy song that the five
minutes it played was much too short and I had to play it again.
It was one of the best songs I have heard in a while. The
complexity of much of the music on this CD makes it exciting
to listen to.

You really get the sense that these guys are all about the music,
but they aren't afraid to have a bit of fun either. Track 9,
Scolding Wife is a good, easy romp which is done well and brings
a smile. There really is a nice mix to this compilation of songs,
and the energy continues throughout until the very last song,
which is the only one that is a fairly slow tune. A simple
wrap-up to a great album.

1. Celtic Music News
=========================

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,

What an exciting adventure we had these past couple o'weeks.
After performing at DragonCon, we did a house concert tour that
was a smashing success. Four shows in Georgia and Florida with
packed houses and lots of Celtic music fans.

As much fun as it was I'm happy to be home. My next CD, "Irish
Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers" will officially be released on
October 25th, and I have a lot of preparation to do before the
CDs start arriving.

Meanwhile, I'm pretty excited to be back to my Irish and Celtic
Music Podcast. I met up with Emerald Rose at DragonCon and look
forward to sharing some of their new CD which is now available.

In the meantime, I'd like to introduce you to a fairly new Celtic
Punk band in the same vein as The Pogues. This band is The Black
Irish. I haven't heard them live yet, but they're based in Austin
so hopefully that'll happen soon enough. The free downloads they
offer are awesome!

Cairde na Gael is the second featured band this week with a fun
pub performance of that classic song "Take Me Up to Monto". If
you like pub songs, their new album released today, sounds like
a great addition to your collection.

Mreow! Slainte!

PADDY ROCK RADIO COMPILATION CD
http://www.paddyrock.com/
In the past, most Paddy Rock bands like The Pogues, The Saw
Doctors, Black 47, and more were thought to be nothing more than
music played on St. Patrick's Day or in some corner Irish pub. In
the late 90's, John Bowles put together a web radio community
where the music of local and independent artists could be heard
worldwide. With new blood like The Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly,
and The Tossers coming into the national spotlight and developing
a huge underground buzz for their Paddy Rock & Punk sound.

On June 1, 2005, Paddy Rock Radio celebrated our five year
anniversary in style with the release of our first compilation
"Paddy Rock Radio Volume 1". On this CD, which is sold directly
through Paddyrock.com, you will find the sounds of US bands Flatfoot
56 (Illinois), Switchback (Illinois), The Killigans (Nebraska),
The Broken Shillelaghs (New Jersey), Ice Wagon Flu (New Jersey),
The Prodigals (New York), Jackdaw (New York), The Bloody Irish Boys
(Ohio)… and international bands The Go Set (Australia),
The Scuttlers (Australia), The Mahones (Canada), The Peelers
(Canada), and The Greenland Whalefishers (Norway).

Paddy Rock Radio's audience has grown from the US to Germany,
Netherlands, UK, Canada, Denmark, Sweden, and is now taking in over
6000 listeners a month. Be sure to tune in to paddyrock.com's Paddy
Rock Radio show today to hear what the buzz is all about.

CELTIC BAND FEATURE #1
=========================

"And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda" by The Black Irish

The Black Irish (Austin, Texas) began in November 2004. Irish
Punkabilly that will make you want to smash someone over the
head with a Guinness bottle and cry for Willy McBride (who died
in the great Irish war of 1916) while combing back your pompadour.
The Black Irish is influenced by numerous genres mostly driving
Traditional Irish punk rock with a hint of hillbilly American
flavor. "There's nothing in this town like you guys. This is
like a breath of fresh air... You are exactly what this town
needs."- Chris Grady -Austin booking agent/producer.

In short (or long) Are you ready to rock Austin!?!? The Black
Irish now playing in a venue near you. From residencies at nation
wide Irish pub chain Fado, to legendary punk rock bar Beerland,
Tiki bar Headhunters, and Austin's Spill dance club, To reggae
bar Flamingo Cantina... These guys can't go wrong. They have
enjoyed much success as an Austin household name and plan to
continue rocking hard. Look for where they are playing soon.
This hard working band will surely be hard to miss!

CELTIC CD FEATURE
=========================

"The Road to Santiago" by Heather Dale
by J. Wallace

Artist: Heather Dale
  http://www.heatherdale.com/
Album: "The Road to Santiago"
Year produced: 2005

Canadian Heather Dale's fifth release is an excellent find. The
Road to Santiago finds her in top form, with confident and often
sassy vocals. The album has some fine Celtic textures including
good double fiddle on The Greyhound, and just the right amount
of guitar on the nearly a capella Holly, Ivy and Yew.

Heather Dale has been compared to Loreena McKennitt and Sarah
McLachlan, but her interest in Arthurian legends and Native
American imagery gives the music an added dimension that's a
joy to discover. The Road To Santiago has its roots set firmly
in Gaeldom, but there are many influences at work including a
taste of piano blues on Confession, and on Sedna, there's a
hint of Australian aboriginal sounds that would fall flat in
lesser hands. On this CD it works quite well.

Medusa is one of the best songs on the CD, and probably one with
a good deal of commercial potential. Heather Dale puts herself
on par with Tori Amos here-no easy feat-but this song rises to
its own category. The energy running through Medusa is worth the
price of the entire album.

Dale is getting some much-deserved attention. Her tours have
extended beyond Canada into the UK and America, and the singer's
popularity is growing fast. After hearing The Road To Santiago,
it's easy to understand. Her confidence and skill behind the
microphone make it easy to forget you're listening to a studio
album instead of a live performance. This could be one of the
best Celtic-influenced CDs of the year.

CELTIC BAND FEATURE #2
=========================

"Take Me Up to Monto" by Cairde na Gael

What is Cairde na Gael? In Irish, it's pronounced (kar-djuh nuh
gayl) and it means "Friends of the Gaelic (Irish/Scot)". O'kie
Irish Music is a little play on words describing our particular
style of Irish music. Our music is based on the styles of great
Irish bands such as The Dubliners, The Clancys, and The Wolftones.
We just add a pinch of "Oklahoma" to get O'kie Irish Music.

The band grew from a weekly session band. In Ireland various
musicians gather at the pubs and have open sessions or jam nights.
Cairde na Gael began from just such a musician's session, right in
downtown Tulsa at Arnie's Irish Bar. What began as an open session
group became a band. Cairde na Gael can still be found playing at
Arnie's Irish Bar.

The members of the band include Frank Smreker (guitar, harmonica
and vocals), Kelly Lamb (vocals), Mike Roohan (vocals and drum),
Rusty Starbuck (banjo and mandolin), Todd McDonald (penny whistle
and pipes), Jon McClure (bass), and our tie to all our Irish
pasts, Phil Duffy (button accordion) all the way from County
Cavan Ireland.

Our tunes include, traditional dance tunes, pub songs, ballads,
and sing-a-longs. The band has played at various Irish Festivals
and Pubs, Tulsa's Oktoberfest, and the Cherokee Resort & Casino
in Catoosa. The band released it's debut CD, titled "Cairde na
Gael", in August of 2005.

1. Celtic Music News
=========================

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,

I've had a busy couple o'weeks. Self-imposed of course. I found
I REALLY Like podcasting. I want to do MORE of it. So what did
I do? Last week, I released the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast #3.
I think I'm gonna up the episodes to every other week. I think
I can pull that off. Plus, I have access to sooo much music I
want to share and that a weekly ezine doesn't allow me to do.
So I'm gonna aim for an hour-long show of Celtic music that you
can listen to again and again and find the great music.

In case you missed the news, The Rogues have a brand new CD out
called RogueTrip. Plus, they have an all new lineup that includes
EJ Jones, formerly of the Texas Celtic supergroup, Clandestine.
That's important because on Rogues 5.0, the band featured "Bonnie
Portmore" with an amazing arrangement that included brass horns.
This time, EJ Jones is leading a new popular arrangement of the
song on flute. It is breath-taking. The Rogues are also the
latest addition to Song Henge.

After The Rogues is Highland Fling. I highlighted Donna Germano
a few years back when she was on MP3.com. She's back with a new
duo with her on hammer dulcimer and Susan Kidney on fiddle with
a beautiful set of Irish tunes that I featured this week in the
podcast #3. What a great combination.

CELTIC BAND FEATURE #1
=========================

"Bonny Portmore" by The Rogues

Smokin' bagpipes and driving percussion only begins to describe
a Rogues performance. Heart stirring music, performed like only
The Rogues can, will make your experience unforgettable.
Everyone becomes a Scot during a Rogues' show, and watch out,
you might be moved to jump up and dance before it's over. Through
their high-spirited and moving music, humour, and the best set
of knees this side of the Tweed, The Rogues create a Celtic
joyride with their blend of Scottish bagpipes and drums.

"Harp and Shamrock" by Cady Finlayson

by Catherine L. Tully

Artist: Cady Finlayson
  http://www.violincady.com/
Album: "Harp and Shamrock"
Year produced: 2004

After hearing Cady Finlayson's gorgeous fiddle-playing on the CD
Take Two (with Sean McCabe) my expectations for Harp and Shamrock
were high, and I was not disappointed. Cady's latest effort is
terrific and I found my only disappointment was that the CD had
to end!

With a good mix of music, Cady's band is every bit as skilled as
she is. You'll hear everything from hornpipe music to a waltz to
a song called Going to Milwaukee which is a fun, easy listen.
Don't miss the title track, Harp and Shamrock/Crock of Gold for
a funky, unique musical arrangement that still somehow manages
to have a traditional thread running through it.

There is enough going on in this CD to keep things interesting
without too much of a departure from the good stuff that people
expect in a Celtic album. You'll hear the reels and jigs, but
this is not background music. Save it for a day that you can
listen to it uninterrupted so you can enjoy it fully. It is
just that good.

CELTIC BAND FEATURE #2
=========================

"Jack Broke the Prison Door" by Highland Fling

The echoes of a fiddle ringing through the mists of the Scottish
Highlands travel through time to the Blue Ridge Mountains of
North Carolina. Susan Kidney on fiddle and Donna Germano on
Celtic harp bring a combination of traditional Scottish melodies
and new compositions to celebrate the beauty of two mountain
ranges united by a common heritage. Highland Fling combines
Celtic harp and fiddle, as well as guitar and hammered dulcimer,
to interpret lively dance tunes and haunting melodies of the
Scottish masters. Inspired by the beauty of the Blue Ridge
Mountains, Susan has written tunes named after such local areas
as Devil's Courthouse and Graveyard Fields, showing the close
relationship between her own Scottish heritage and the music of
those who have settled in the Southern Highlands. Donna's Celtic
harp and hammered dulcimer provide both a compliment and contrast
to the strains of the fiddle in lively dance tunes and beautiful
airs alike.

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,

Well so far, Song Henge is getting an amazing response. The new
subscribers who've responded said they Loved it. That makes me
happy, and of course, makes it worthwhile to run. I still have
a lot of updating which I haven't had a chance to do this past
week, what with the recording I've been at with the Brobdingnagian
Bards. I should have more time this coming week.

SONG HENGE
http://www.celticmp3s.com/members/

I also got the second Irish & Celtic Music Podcast up and
running. I'm really pleased how it's sounding. Hopefully, we'll
soon have a network of Celtic music podcasts if I can get
together with Aaron Drake of the Celtic Music News Podcast and
Michael Murphy with the Irish Music Podcast.

Irish & Celtic Music Podcast
http://www.celticmp3s.com/podcast/

I don't remember if I mentioned the Irish Music Podcast. It
started up a few weeks back. It's an awesome podcast with Irish
music, news and entertainment. I particularly love their "This
Week in Beer" feature. Always fun.

Irish Music Podcast
http://www.irishmusicpodcast.com/

Michael Murphy also has a band--Michael Murphy and the Shannon
River Band. I hadn't heard of his group before I found the
podcast, but I am loving what I am hearing now. The group has
a wonderful traditional sound with sharp harmonies and a some
killer fun music.

Raymond McCullough is an Irish gem. I've wanted to feature this
talented Irish songwriter for a long time ago. Raymond combines
traditional Celtic music with contemporary songwriting while
fusing musical styles from China and Israel with Celtic Christian
themes. He has a totally unique musical style that's had him
topping the charts on various Celtic Christian internet radio
stations.

CELTIC BAND FEATURE #1
=========================

"Whisky You're the Devil" by Michael Murphy and the Shannon
River Band

Michael Murphy and the Shannon River Band offers a high-energy
display of their Celtic roots, blended with leading-edge
elements of bluegrass and jam-rock styles. The band's original
and traditional music blends sounds from the Dubliners,
Wolfetones, Bill Monroe, Ricky Scaggs, Phish and Dave Mathews.
Both old and young, traditional and modern can't resist this
rhythm and improvisation-infused approach to traditional
Celtic music.

This connection with audiences through music comes through loud
and clear on the band's 2004 self-titled release. Music from the
album has been featured on-air, with consistent play on WEDO
810AM. Host Diane Byrnes calls the group, "The area's brightest
new talent … This disc is a must-have for your music library!"
The effort has also been featured in 2004 St. Patrick's Day
on-air and live event promotions for WRRK 96.9FM.

"Highland Fling" by Highland Fling

by Catherine L. Tully

Artist: Highland Fling
  http://classictouchmusic.com/
Album: "Highland Fling"
Year produced: 2005

Simple, pleasant Celtic music combining the sound of the harp,
fiddle and hammered dulcimer, this is a lovely CD. Susan Kidney's
fiddle playing meshes beautifully with the harp music of Donna
Germano. There is a mix of traditional Scottish tunes and new
music here, so everyone should be pleased.

The music on the CD spans all tempos, with selections arranged
well to compliment each other. The range of sounds that both
artists can elicit from their instruments shows their expertise
and makes the music a pleasure to sit back and listen to. Don't
miss the sweet sounds of track 5, Graveyard Fields or Hector the
Hero, track 9 which has spoken lyrics in addition to the music;
a nice listen.

This album is one to sit back and enjoy. Lament for the Mountains
was my favorite track, and is an original of Susan Kidney's.
There are 13 tracks with a wide range of sound for only a few
instruments! This is a pairing of talent that is something worth
listening to.

1. Celtic Music News
=========================

Greetings Celtic Music Lovers,

This month marks the five year anniversary for the Celtic MP3s
Music Magazine. When the magazine started, I planned to feature
the Brobdingnagian Bards in every issue. But as I heard all the
great music out there, I changed my mind. I decided to help
Celtic groups reach Celtic music fans.

But before I go into all that, I want to introduce you to this
week's bands. A couple o'weeks ago, I shared Celtic music from
Croatia. This week, I'd like to share some Celtic music from
Rome, Italy from Contea. After that, you can enjoy the fun
music of The Barley Boys, complete with awesome harmonies and
a lot of spirit.

Introducing Song Henge

Our community is just way too small. It's not very profitable
and time-consuming to run a free weekly magazine. That's why
such popular sites as Ceolas the CelticMusic.com have good
information, but they are now outdated. Other websites, charge
you a fee to access the great information. I never wanted to do
that.

My goal was to offer free Celtic music and to rely on your
benevolence to support the artists you love. And you do that.

However, it got me thinking. This newsletter and website costs
me far more than the amount of time I put into it. I wonder if
there is a special service I can offer you that might help me
to continue this magazine while giving you a value-added access
to the great music you love to listen to.

With my five-year anniversary upon me, I thought it was now
fitting to introduce Song Henge, the quick and easy guide to the
music and bands found in the Celtic MP3s Music Magazine.

I'm sure some of you have tried digging around the CelticMP3s.com
website trying to find out if your favorite band offers free
music. In the process, you found some more great music, but it
was really rather inconsistent.

Well, I decided to make that easier with Song Henge. This is a
comprehensive guide of Celtic music features, reviews, and sites
with the best free Celtic MP3s that were featured in the Celtic
MP3s Music Magazine. Like this newsletter, there are no illegal
Celtic MP3s, but there are currently over a hundred and twenty
bands with 300+ MP3s that you are allowed to download. Plus,
you will find information about each group, or find out what
happened to these groups.

The site is still under construction. I hope to do a full-release
in September when I will release annual memberships. Until then,
I decided to release a limited number of Lifetime Memberships at
well-over 50% off the regular price.

This is your chance to show your support for the work I do on
this magazine and to easily access the bands that you enjoy
listening to.

As a Lifetime Member of Song Henge, you will also get access to
free CDs, some exclusive Celtic MP3 downloads, and an exclusive
Song Henge monthly mailing list, where I will notify you about
the latest Song Henge gifts.

I put hundreds of hours into compiling this information, writing
these features, reviews, and building this directory. It is a
massive project that is still under construction. I could easily
charge $150 for a lifetime membership.

When it's released, it will cost you $49, but this month only,
you can join Song Henge for just $29. For the price of two CDs,
you can access five years of research.

CELTIC BAND FEATURE #1
=========================

"Me Father's Shoes" by The Barley Boys

The Barley Boys have taken their live performances from the local
bar scene to the festival stages across the nation. This band has
reached a new presence in the Celtic Music scene of today. Without
a doubt, these five not only entertain, but also excite and
re-kindle the Celtic spirit.

The Barley Boys' renowned style and professionalism is combined
like no other. They bring you a timeless recipe of traditional
Irish music and Maritime favorites with new arrangements that are
complimented with original songs written by lead vocalist Mike
Babick. The lively lowland fiddling' of Glen Borden blends with
the soothing voice of Dublin's own Robbie Murphy. The foot
stompin' rhythm section featuring Joe Gherity and Brian Fanning
bring it all together in a powerful sound they call their own.
The Barley Boys' colorful harmonies and tastefulness are not
to be forgotten; instead, they are remembered in the hearts
and souls of those who join them.

"The High Road" by Cluan

by Joe Wallace

Artist: Cluan
  http://www.cluan.com/
Album: The High Road
Year produced: 2004

Cluan mix up reels, jigs and songs to good effect on The High
Road. The Texas sextet's fifty-minute studio album lives up to
its name with plenty of high quality sounds from Ireland and
beyond. Singer Erin Bobruk adds just the right touch of emotion
on the opening jilted-lover song The Blacksmith. More
impressively, Bobruk handles the tongue-twisting Bímse Féin ag
lascaireacht with considerable skill and grace.

Cluan stick with what some call the all-natural sound; they
don't try to spruce up the mix with electrified sounds, heavy
echo or other studio tricks. The acoustic guitar, bouzouki, and
two fiddles are expertly recorded; The High Road has a
spontaneous quality difficult to capture on a studio album.

It's obvious the band put much thought into the flow of this
release as a long-play experience. With plenty of variety from
track to track, the music ebbs and flows from the mellow Green
Grows The Laurel to the spirited jigs of The Butlers of Glen
Avenue. The finale, Aly's Waltz, rounds out the album well, its
easygoing tempo a nice contrast to the energetic Skidoo, Johnny
Allen's, and Farewell To Whisky.

For a group only in existence for a few years, the group already
has an impressive selection of quality work. Cluan have three
releases under their belts now, the six-song The Buck Stops Here,
and the longer-playing Night Out. After getting a taste of The
High Road, the other two titles are very tempting. Sadly, The
Buck Stops Here is unavailable, but Night Out is still in print,
featuring the same skilled guitar and good fiddle playing that's
found on The High Road.

CELTIC BAND FEATURE #2
=========================

"March of the King of Laois" by Contea - Modern European Folk

The band was formed in 1998, as a folk laboratory, to study and
perform fok music from all europe, with music wink from asia
(with some using of tabla or tampura). The choice of songs was
always been directed on rebel music from all europe. This kind
of choice lead the band to a studio work in 2004, "Il Campo dei
Ribelli" (the Rebel Camp), with music from all those people that
fought against the first ideas of imperialism in europe, there
are songs from Scotland, Vandea, South of Italy and Russia.
In top af all we love Irish music and we play it a lot!

For those who can't read Italian:
Also know as "Rory O'Moore" and "Rory of the Hills, this old
melody was always assocaited with the O'Moore family and was
composed as a homage to Ruairi Og O Mordha, who was the head
ohousehold in the sixteenth century and a famous hero of the
anti-English resistance at that time. The Laois word is
pronounced "Lish".

Hometown: Roma, Italy
