Cherokee County Music Society Plans Holiday Gathering, Song Critique December 6th
For immediate release
November 9, 2009
Woodstock, GA - The Cherokee County Music Society is proud to present its 2009 Holiday Gathering Sunday, December 6th, 2009 from 6-9PM at the Woodstock Coffee House, 1428 Towne Lake Parkway, Woodstock, GA 30189. At 7PM after an hour of networking, CCMS members are invited to perform and test market a new song at a song critique session where attendees can critique new music presented to them in the singer/songwriter format. Critique ballots will be distributed, completed anonymously and then given to the songwriter after each song performance. A vote for the best song will take place after all critiques conclude with the best song winning a door prize. Sign-up for the critique sessions will take place at the event.
The CCMS invites the general public to attend, and would especially like to see Cherokee County's music industry professionals, musicians, singers, and songwriters attend this event. CCMS merchandise and member CDs will be available to purchase for discounted prices throughout the duration of the event.
The purpose of the CCMS showcase is to create more public and music business awareness for some of the finest talent originating in Cherokee County. The CCMS has already sponsored several highly successful Songwriters Nights and Band Showcases at venues in Cherokee County. The CCMS plans to expand into Cobb County beginning in 2010.
The Cherokee County Music Society's mission statement is to create opportunities for musicians, songwriters, industry professionals, and music-related merchants within Cherokee County by developing more opportunities to increase visibility while preserving integrity and striving for excellence in the music community; to create more awareness about the music community within Cherokee County; and to create more educational opportunities for songwriters and musicians within Cherokee County.
The Cherokee County Music Society was formed in January, 2007 by founding members Sandy Serge and Mark Waterbury, both Cherokee County, Georgia residents. Both founding members have been active in the music industry for a significant number of years and work for the Serge Entertainment Group, a Cherokee County music business.
Cherokee County musicians and music industry professionals are invited to sign up for the Cherokee County Music Society mailing list at http://www.cherokeecountymusicsociety.org.
CCMS Member Ellen Aldridge asked me to inform you of a contest her publication Target Audience is sponsoring. This is a band contest and you could win a photo shoot! Info is at the link below.

CCMS members must show their membership cards at the door for free admission. The guest list is suspended for this show.
Ways to help us promote this show:
1. List on myspace and facebook
2. Include in emailers and newsletters to friends, family & fans
3. Put flyers in the places you frequent and post jpegs on the net
4. Word of mouth - tell everyone you know about it and ask for their support
5. Contact your media friends and ask them to list the show or ask for an interview or a preview - and of course invite them to the show
6. Anything else you can think of that is legal - lol!
We will get a jpeg flyer for you to post everywhere you want on the net.
I will be selling CCMS merchandise at the show at discounted prices. If you have t-shirts or CDs or other merch you would like me to sell, I'd be happy to do that for you. If so, please have documented how many merch items you have for me to sell and their price. Please make sure your name is on the list you give to me. I have an example below.
YOUR NAME
ITEMS
CDS - TITLE OF CD - # OF CDS FOR SALE - PRICE
T-SHIRTS - # OF T-SHIRTS FOR SALE - PRICE
I will document how many items are sold. If you would like to donate a portion of your merch sales to the CCMS, we would be truly grateful.
Please encourage your friends and fans to attend this show to support our Society and the music scene in Cherokee County in general. Also, this is a wonderful place to have dinner! One of the finest restaurants in our county, so please encourage your friends and family to have dinner here during the show. Let's pack the place (like we usually do)! :-) Most of all, let's have FUN!
The big announcement is that we are expanding our reach to Cobb County! A press release will go out in a few weeks about it.
Also Ellen from Target Audience has offered us space in her webzine for a CCMS newsletter. We are planning to publish a newsletter in pdf format on a quarterly basis. Thank you, Ellen!
In the meantime we are planning our Songwriters Series for Sunday, September 27th, beginning at 6PM. We will not have a visiting songwriter this time so the show will consist of singer/songwriters who are members of the CCMS. If you would like to perform, please send me an email by Wednesday, Sept. 2nd so I can coordinate the lineup and start promoting the event. Again, if you would like to perform, you must be a CCMS and bring 10 people to the show. The event will be held at the Winchester Woodfire Grill in Canton which is an exquisite fine dining restaurant that hosts live entertainment on weekends. They are hosting live entertainment on Sunday the 27th specifically for the CCMS. I will send more info once I have the performers confirmed. We already have Bob Patterson and Marc Lawson confirmed to perform on the 27th.
Greetings, everyone:

Press Release
Surgeland Records Sets August 28th Release Date for Paris Keeling CD End of Week Release for Paris Keeling's End of Ride Revisited CD
August 7, 2009
For Immediate Release
Atlanta, GA - Surgeland Records, a division of Serge Entertainment Group LLC, has announced an unconventional release date of August 28th for "End of Ride Revisited" by rock band Paris Keeling. The release date falls on a Friday rather than the standard Tuesday release date protocol the larger labels follow. The 16-song set features songs previously released on the 2006 Paris Keeling CD "End of Ride" along with bonus tracks and remixes, and contains the renowned vocal talents of Kelly Keeling (Baton Rouge, Michael Schenker Group, Blue Murder, Carmine Appice's Guitar Zeus, King Kobra, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, O'2L) and the lauded guitar and production work of Marty Paris (The Marty Paris Band, Permanent Reverse) along with several celebrity musicians. The collaboration between Paris and Keeling began several years ago with the culmination of their songwriting styles blossoming into melodic rock/pop political and relationship-based songs.
"This album has come together very nicely," explains Sandy Serge, Surgeland Records' president. "We decided to be a bit unconventional and opted for an end of week release, It goes well with the album title. Both the music, which features some of the most heralded musicians on the music scene today, and the artwork, are phenomenal. Our graphics designer Gary Kelley at Creative Ninjas did a superb job at developing our concept. We hope Paris Keeling friends and fans will be very pleased."
All presales orders will be shipped and the CD will be available online on the 28th at http://www.pariskeeling.com and http://www.kellykeeling.net. It will also be available digitally shortly thereafter through iTunes and other digital download sites.
Numerous celebrity musicians were recruited for this CD including Carmine Appice, George Lynch, Don Dokken, Al Pitrelli, Shane Gaalaas, Erik Norlander, Nate Howell, and The Aevia Trio featuring Diane Cox, Maud Kelley, and Juli Roach, with the core band consisting of Rick van Benschoten, Matt Goeke, Gintas Janusonis, Marty Paris, and Kelly Keeling.
CD presales orders are available on the web site at http://www.pariskeeling.com for a discounted price up until the 28th.

We have some opportunities for you to perform live.
Canton has started a farmers market that runs from 9:00am-1:00pm every Saturday through October. It is held in downtown Canton, on Main Street, at the gazebo. We are looking for musicians to perform at the gazebo, which does have electricity. They do not have a budget to pay anyone, but would work towards that if there is some interest. This could also lead to bigger, more profitable gigs for musicians that perform.
Start time to perform is 9:30AM and they would like you to perform until 12:30-1:00 or 3 hours. You can take 15 minute breaks per hour of performance. You must provide your own PA, but you don't really need much. Any types of music are fine except heavy metal so folk, country, light rock, jazz, AC, contemporary Christian, bluegrass, singer/songwriter genres or similar are all welcome. This is for local musicians preferably - Cherokee County residents.
Please contact me at SergeEnt@... with the following information if you would like to perform.
Name of act:
Date preference (please list one date and an alternate date - Saturdays now through October)
Address:
City/state/zip:
Phone:
:
URL with music:
Remember you must provide your own PA. You must be there at 9-9:15AM to load in so you can begin to perform at 9:30 and you must perform until 12:30 or 1PM.
Thank you.
Best regards,
Sandy Serge

The Tunes and Tapas Songwriters Series was a smashing success! The place was packed and the music was superb! The food was fantastic at Decio's and we want to thank Kevin and Velda for hosting our event. We have been invited back!
Special thanks to John Brightwell and Kevin Carlson for their phenomenal performances and also to our visiting songwriter Julius Curcio who came all the way from Philadelphia to join us. He put on an amazing performance as well!
The next Tunes & Tapas Songwriters Series will be in September. If you would like to perform at the next Songwriters Series, please send in your request to me now. You must be a member of the CCMS to perform at our shows. We are already talking to several possible visiting songwriters and have some really great people in mind for the next show. An announcement will be made in a month or two so stay tuned.
I was saddened to see that not even one CCMS member came to watch the show on the 25th. I was hoping that more of you could find the time to support your fellow CCMS members/musicians, and also to stop by to say hello to us. I hope to see all of you and your friends at the next Songwriters Series event.
The CCMS will be on hiatus for the summer so we want to wish everyone a safe and fun summertime.
See you in September :-).

We are looking for bands for the May 3rd showcase at The Tavern. Showtime starts at 6PM so it will be an early night. We generally end the show around 9, and then have a jam for musicians who are interested. We need bands who will bring their fans out so please email me and let me know if any of you are interested. At least one member in the band must belong to the Cherokee County Music Society to perform at the showcase.
Sound is provided and each band receives a door split dependent on how many fans/family/friends they bring out. Your fans must tell our door person they are at the show to see you.
I hope to hear from you ASAP so we can start promoting the event.

I hope all of you are doing well. It's time to step up the promotion for the upcoming Cherokee County Music Society Tunes and Tapas Songwriters Series show on April 25th featuring CCMS members John Brightwell and Kevin Carlson, and visiting songwriter from Philadelphia Julius Curcio. This is our first major event of the year. Many more are in the works.
I have included the code for the flyer below. If you would like the jpeg, please email me and I will send it to you.
CCMS members receive an admission discount so they would only have to pay $5 with your membership card. Decio's food is reasonably priced so come have dinner with us and/or have a few glasses of wine. This promises to be a very entertaining evening and we really need people to show up for this so we can have our Series again at Decio's every month or two. This would be a regular event for the CCMS to help us earn money for the organization and all the big plans we have.
More about all the other things going on soon...
In the meantime, won't you please help us promote this by:
1. Posting this flyer on your myspace page and/or official web sites?
2. Printing out copies to leave at retailers, colleges and schools in your area?
3. Inviting all of your friends and family members to join is for a night of fine food and entertainment?
What a great way to spend a Saturday night! Show time is at 9PM. Please call for reservations at 770-926-9743 for reserved seating.
We have already submitted a press release to the media.

Looking for someone to teach beginning guitar lessons to a needy student. Her mother works in our cafeteria, and we are helping them out anonymously with Christmas gifts for the girl, and food for the family.
thanks,

Press Release
Cherokee County Music Society Plans Holiday Event December 7th The Tavern at Bells Ferry hosts holiday celebration featuring raffles, awards, giveaways, entertainment and an open jam including some of Cherokee County's finest musicians
For immediate release
November 18, 2008
Woodstock, GA - The Cherokee County Music Society is proud to present its Holiday Event Sunday, December 7th, 2008 beginning at 6PM at The Tavern at Bells Ferry, 5735 Bells Ferry Road, Woodstock, GA 30188. This major Cherokee County event is also a CCMS fundraiser to help support the Society and its mission statement, and also to support the Cherokee County Music Foundation. The Foundation's first project is to sponsor and mentor a child to help his/her musical dreams come true by providing a musical instrument, lessons, songwriting and recording studio seminars, plus guidance to becoming successful in the music business. The Society and Foundation are planning to acquire a non-profit status in 2009.
The CCMS will also sponsor an open jam later in the evening with some surprise special guests. Musicians from Cherokee County are invited to jam with other residents of our community during the jam session. An awards presentation preceding the jam will honor four CCMS members for their outstanding achievement during 2008.
$5 raffle tickets for products and services donated by numerous Cherokee County merchants will be available to purchase at the event to assist with fundraising. Merchants sponsoring this event include Woodstock Coffee House, Decio's Italian Kitchen, Jaw's Guitars, Photoartstorm, Gold's Gym, Bob O's Hamburgers and Chili, Donley's Music, Serge Entertainment Group, plus many others. Items to be raffled off include microwaves, gift certificates, CD/DVD packages, photo art, glassware, housewares, and much more.
The purpose of the CCMS showcase is to create more public and music business awareness for some of the finest talent originating in Cherokee County. The CCMS has already sponsored several highly successful Songwriters Nights and Band Showcases at venues in Cherokee County.

The Sunday, December 7th Holiday Event is only several days away and we want to encourage all of you to come out to support Cherokee County Music! We have a great entertainment lineup as most of you know with everything from folk to heavy metal! So there is something for everyone at this show.
Just a few reminders:
• Admission is $5 and the show kicks off promptly at 6PM
• Children 12 and under receive free admission until 9PM. After 9PM, the venue is 21+
• CCMS Members receive free admission - you must show your membership card at the door so be sure to bring it with you
• One free raffle ticket with each paid admission. Otherwise, raffle tickets are available for purchase at $5 each. We have plenty of items and gift certificates to raffle off at this event.
• The guest list for performers will be suspended
Remember our goal is to make at least $1500. There are expenses that went into this show that need to be covered first and we do want to pay the bands & singer/songwriters something as well for their performances. Anything leftover after paying the bands and expenses, will go toward forming the 501(c)3. Once that is formed, we will be able to secure our much-needed donors, release our CD compilation, hold big events, and finally start helping a child with his/her music career!
Please tell all of your friends and family to attend and to give generously to our great cause - supporting Cherokee County Music! Everyone who attends will receive free giveaways including free candy and CDs. Remember to tell your musician friends to bring their instruments for our open jam which will commense immediately after the awards presentation.

We had a good meeting on Sunday night, although attendance could have been better.
As a result, we have decided to have membership meetings on a quarterly basis rather than monthly and we will have Team Leader meetings on a monthly basis.
New Team Leaders for 2009 were appointed and are as follows:
Foundation Team - Mark Waterbury - SrgVPMedia@...
Fundraising Team - Kevin Carlson - kevinc@...
Membership Team - Callie Bartos - callie@...
Merchant Sponsor/Donations - Sandy Serge - SergeEnt@...
Visibility Team - Carol Cloud - scnbcloud@...
These five people will meet once a month to discuss new proposals, issues and action items within the organization. Each leader is responsible for recruiting CCMS members to be a part of their teams. If any of you would like to sign up or volunteer to be a team member, please email the individual team leaders to offer your assistance. We need all of you to become involved to reach the goals of your Society. Team leaders may also schedule their own meetings as they see fit with their team members.
We also discussed numerous events for next year and have some things in the works. Once we form the 501(c)3, the first thing on the agenda is the CCMS compilation CD.
We will also have another Songwriter's Night we are planning for January. A date and venue will be announced later.
Also watch for the following in 2009:
• More Band Showcases and Songwriters Nights - possibly in Cobb County as well as Cherokee
• CCMS Festival
• CCMS Concert Series
• CCMS Tennis Fundraising Tournament
• CCMS-Sponsored Open Mics
• CCMS Events partnered with other charities
Special thanks to the above team leaders and their contributions to the Society.
Make a difference in your music community. Get involved with the CCMS!
We hope everyone is having a great week. Please take moment to reflect on the patriotic duties of our Veterans. Thank a Vet for preserving our freedom!

Just a quick reminder about our last meeting of 2009 Sunday, November 9th at Woodstock Coffee House, 1428 Towne Lake Parkway from 7-9PM.
And it's membership renewal time! It's almost a new year and all dues are due on January 1st, 2009. Pay your 2009 renewal dues at the meeting and receive a free CCMS button and bumper sticker! Also, we will have t-shirts for sale at the meeting. And if you renew at the meeting, you will receive one dollar off a t-shirt if purchased with your renewal. These make great gifts for family members, too! Let's sell these out. The next batch will be black. But we need to sell these first. Our goal is to exceed $1000 to form the 501 (c) 3 and then things are really going to happen for us! But we need your help to get there. We have our meeting and the December 7th event to meet our fiscal goal so please break out your piggy bank and support your local music scene and your organization with your renewals and your merchandise purchases.
The above offers are only good at this meeting, November 9th.
Thanks for all your support. See you at the meeting!

We have formulated the band lineup for the event on December 7th. All performers will get a 30 minute set.
6PM - Kevin Carlson - 30 minutes (acoustic folk rock singer/songwriter)
6:35PM - Noonday Blue - 30 minutes (classic rock/blues/acoustic pop)
7:05PM - Mike Alton - 30 minutes (acoustic alt rock singer/songwriter)
7:45PM - Rizer - 30 minutes (rock/alt/Christian)
8:30PM - Shadowmatter - 30 minutes (progressive metal)
Backline (including a drumkit with cymbals) will be provided along with the PA by our trusty soundman Sanders.
Bands: Please be there by 5PM if you want a soundcheck. There is very little time between sets and we have lot of ground to cover since we have 3 bands and 2 singer/songwriters performing. Anyone who misses this event will be VERY SORRY :-).....we are fortunate to have some of the best talent in Cherokee County and even Atlanta performing at this very special holiday event. Please help us promote this show by listing it on your myspace profiles and your official web sites. We have a flyer that is ready as well and will be sending the code and a jpeg soon. We have one month to really get things going so please tell everyone you know about our event and encourage them to attend.
Raffle prizes and awards will be distributed and announced at 9PM and then we go right into the open jam which should be a BLAST!
We have TWO new bands performing at this event. So let's all welcome Noonday Blue and Shadowmatter into the fold. Callie Bartos of Noonday Blue and David McBee of Shadowmatter are both new CCMS Members.
This show will be one of our best to date!
Please email me if you have any questions.
Thanks again to everyone for your much-needed support.

Just a reminder that our next CCMS meeting is this Sunday, November 9th from 7-9PM at Woodstock Coffee House, 1428 Towne Lake Parkway, Woodstock GA. We hope to see everyone there. We will be electing new team leaders, signing up for committees, discussing the December 7th Holiday Event and planning for next year. We need all of you to please attend this meeting. We want your input and we need your help to put the ideas into action. This is the last meeting of the year with our next meeting scheduled for January. We have great things coming in the New Year!

Our second garage sale was only slightly more successful than the first one. We essentially were just short of covering the expenses incurred for the ad and signs so we didn't make a profit. We almost broke even. I don't know if it's the state of the economy, but people just weren't buying. I think we had a good selection of things and I was told it was very well organized. We slashed prices for the second sale hoping we would sell more, and we did sell a bit more, but nothing like we had hoped.
So, we have an idea: some of the things donated to the garage sale were either brand new or very much like new. We were thinking that we might raffle them off at the Holiday Party on December 7th. We have two complete computer systems; a brand new George Forman Grill; a set of pewter shot glasses; a set of Currier & Ives mugs; some collectible Blatz pilsner glasses; a PC projector; microwave ovens; and several other things that would make great prizes at a raffle. We will also get gift certificates like last year, but this way we will have more of a variety.
We are still working on the lineup for the night. So far confirmed performers are Mike Alton, Kevin Carlson, Shadowmatter, and Rizer. We are waiting for one more band to confirm. And we will get the full lineup in order of appearance to you as soon as we hear from that band. And we will most definitely have the open jam again after the performers so that should be fun.
The next meeting is Sunday, November 9th at 7PM at Woodstock Coffee House in Towne Lake. We will be electing new Team Leaders and have team signup sheets at that time so it is imperative that all of you please try to attend, OK? That is the main item on the agenda. We will also start planning events for next year and discuss the upcoming Holiday Event, and things we can do to make our event really fun and entertaining. Remember, that we need all of you to make this work. This is your organization and it's a fun one to be a part of!
Hope to see all of you at the meeting on Sunday, November 9th from 7-9PM. It's our last meeting of 2008!

Tomorrow, Friday is our final day of our CCMS garage sale. We need all of you to come out to the sale and encourage your friends and family to attend the sale, too. This is very important as we are trying to raise $1000 to form the 501(c) 3 (government and attorneys fees). Once we get to that point, our donors will start helping us financially and everything will be much easier for us (at least financially).
We have something for everyone at the garage sale. Suprisingly, we don't have musical instruments! I guess everyone is hanging onto those, but we have CDs, stereo equipment, and other assorted electronics, along with plenty of other treasures. Some things are new or like new. This is the 2nd last fundraising event we have for the year. We are hoping that between the garage sale and the December 7th Holiday Event, we will be able to raise enough money for the 501(c)3.
Moms - stop by after you drop your kids off at school
Everyone else - stop by before work or afterwards if you work a shortened day.
Hours are 8AM-2PM. We will also have hot cider, coffee, Apple Raisin Muffins and Pumpkin Cookies. CCMS members receive a free cup of coffee so please stop by, enjoy some coffee, do some shopping and chat with us.
Once we form our 501(c)3, we will have our own festival and concerts with national recording artists and the CCMS opening for the national artists. These are just some of our goals so let's please, please, please join together to make our dreams a reality. We need all of you to help.
Thank you for your continuing involvement in the CCMS. We look forward to seeing all of you tomorrow (Friday) at the garage sale!
Keep the faith and our dreams will soon be real! :-)
