Greetings, All!

Tomorrow, Friday is our final day of our CCMS garage sale. We need all of you to come out to the sale and encourage your friends and family to attend the sale, too. This is very important as we are trying to raise $1000 to form the 501(c) 3 (government and attorneys fees). Once we get to that point, our donors will start helping us financially and everything will be much easier for us (at least financially).

We have something for everyone at the garage sale. Suprisingly, we don't have musical instruments! I guess everyone is hanging onto those, but we have CDs, stereo equipment, and other assorted electronics, along with plenty of other treasures. Some things are new or like new. This is the 2nd last fundraising event we have for the year. We are hoping that between the garage sale and the December 7th Holiday Event, we will be able to raise enough money for the 501(c)3.

Moms - stop by after you drop your kids off at school
Everyone else - stop by before work or afterwards if you work a shortened day.

Hours are 8AM-2PM.  We will also have hot cider, coffee, Apple Raisin Muffins and Pumpkin Cookies. CCMS members receive a free cup of coffee so please stop by, enjoy some coffee, do some shopping and chat with us.

Once we form our 501(c)3, we will have our own festival and concerts with national recording artists and the CCMS opening for the national artists. These are just some of our goals so let's please, please, please join together to make our dreams a reality. We
need all of you to help.

Thank you for your continuing involvement in the CCMS. We look forward to seeing all of you tomorrow (Friday) at the garage sale!

Keep the faith and our dreams will soon be real! :-)

Greetings, Everyone!

Guess what? We are going to have to change the date, venue and the band lineup for the CCMS Holiday Event. This is highly unfortunate, but Bob Patterson aka Bogey and The Thrillhammers all have prior commitments for the 6th. We tried to change the date to the 13th to accommodate the band only to find out that Downtown Kitchen is booked for other holiday parties on both the 13th and 6th so the venue took the 6th away from us. So we approached The Tavern and the venue is available on Sunday, December 7th.
We are switching the date to Sunday, December 7th and the venue will be The Tavern on Bells Ferry. The event will be earlier again from 6-9PM and then we will have a Holiday Jam, just like last year. We will have raffle tickets for sale and the admission will be $5. We have also asked The Tavern to prohibit smoking in the room where the CCMS event is for our members who prefer a smoke-free environment, at least up until 9PM. The Tavern agreed to do that.

What we need now are bands and singer/songwriters who are available to perform on December 7th. You must be a member (or be in a band that has at least one CCMS member) to perform.
If you would like to perform, please email me ASAP and we will do our best to fit you into the lineup for the night. Sanders will be our soundman once again and he will be providing a PA and backline including a drumkit for us.

And for those who don't know, Sanders hosts an open mic every Monday night at The Tavern. So stop by and see him and sign up to perform at his open mic in Cherokee County.

Thanks for your continuing support. We hope to see all of you at our Holiday Event!

Greetings, Everyone!

The CCMS Fundraiser yard sale is just two days away! If you have not arranged to drop off your contributions for the sale yet, please contact me ASAP. Our schedule is very full with preparations over the next two days so please email me to arrange a time so I can clear my schedule for you.

Best times for drop offs are Thursday between 4-6PM and Friday between 4-6PM. Friday night we will be setting things up and working on the garage to arrange things according to category and create a pleasant shopping atmosphere so it would be great if everything could be delivered by 6PM Friday. Don't fear if you can't make it between the recommended times! We will do what we can to accommodate a time that fits your schedule.

We will be spinning CDs by the CCMS members during the duration of the sale, too.

We already have some great items - par stage lights, microwaves, gutter guards and cleaners, computer monitors, glassware, cds, men's and women's clothing and shoes, books, collectibles (beer signs and other vintage items), a computer speaker system, housewares, crafts, lots more.....Mark will also be selling his photo art which makes great holiday gifts!

Remember to label everything with your initials if you are placing your items in the sale on consignment. Also, we will have a form for you to fill out to let us know if we can barter on the item.

Also, remember that if you want to contribute baked goods, that would be appreciated. I hope to make muffins and pumpkin cookies (time permitting). We will have coffee, hot cider (weather forecast is predicting 63 degrees for a high on Saturday so we will need it to keep warm!) and water as well.

Thanks again to all of you for your much-needed support! I hope to see all of you and your friends and family on Saturday!

We will rock the foundation (LOL)! :-),

Greetings, Everyone:

Here is the info regarding the yard sale again for you. We are prepping for the yard sale and would really like your help with promoting it. Load up your van with friends and family, and come on out and do some holiday shopping, too. Who knows what treasures you will find!

Also, below is the flyer code for your myspace profiles and web sites...please post it ASAP and help us get the word out. Please email me if you prefer the actual jpeg and I will email it to you.

<a href="http://s75.photobucket.com/albums/i293/ssserge1/?action=view&current=YardSale.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i293/ssserge1/YardSale.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Below are the guidelines which have changed just a bit.

• The hours for the sale will be
8AM-2PM and the sale will be at 6918 Heritage Place in Acworth, 30102. It is located just of Kellogg Creek Road, not too far from Bells Ferry Road. The house is small, but the yard is large and there is a side lot that is available and a pretty long driveway that we can line with tables and displays.

We need volunteers throughout the day to assist with selling merchandise. If you have a retail background, we would love your help. You can work all day or just for 2-3 hours, whichever suits your schedule.  Please email SergeEnt@... and let me know what time you would like to help us out. So far Kevin Carlson, Margaret Swarts, David McBee, Mark Waterbury, Carol Cloud and myself will be there to help.

• We will setup at 7AM so we are ready to start selling at 8AM. We will not accept early birds; sales begin at 8AM. We will need volunteers to help with setup and breakdown as well. See above.

• We also need volunteers to help spread the word around the internet and to distribute physical flyers around Cherokee County. The jpeg flyer code is above. We ask that you please post our information on your myspace pages, and internet garage/yard sale web sites. If you would like a jpeg instead of the code, please email me and I will send it to you. The jpeg will be printable so you can create your own flyers and put them in strategic places in your neighborhood and workplace. Keep in mind that we could potentially have 15 or more families involved in this sale! So there will be plenty of items to choose from. And with the economy the way it is right now, a yard sale is good place to find treasures at a bargain. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

Please donate or consign your items for this yard sale. Items for the yard sale can be dropped off at 6918 Heritage Place the week of October 20th - late afternoon or evening hours. Please email me at SergeEnt@... to schedule a time to drop off your items. You may donate your items to the CCMS; or you may place them on consignment in the yard sale and donate 10% (or more - whatever you designate) of the selling price to the CCMS. Items can be anything from books to clothes (baby clothes sell very well) to furniture to musical equipment to computer equipment to housewares, etc.. Anything that is in good condition. Items that are donated do not need to be tagged but any consignment items you drop off must be tagged with the selling price and your 3 initials on the same tag with the selling price. When you drop off your items, we will ask you to sign a release statement for us. If you prefer, please bring a list of your items and we will attach it to the release form. Please indicate on your list if the prices on the priced items are fixed or if we can barter.

• If any of you would like to bake and donate baked goods (cookies, candies, bars, pies, cakes. etc.), we can also sell these at the sale. Each item must be individually wrapped as a whole or in individual servings and priced with your initials. We will have hot cider, coffee and water available as well. Again, if you prefer to donate the items, great! If you want to make some money, then all we ask is that you donate 10% to the CCMS, and we will pay you the difference for any of the baked goods we sell.

• Any items you consign for the yard sale that are not sold must be picked up the week of October 27th and must be off the premises before October 31st or they will be taken and donated to a charity such as The Cherokee County Humane Society or Good Will; OR they will be disposed of as the board members see fit. Musical equipment may be donated to a music charity.

• Restrooms for the yard sale will only be available for CCMS members who volunteer to help. Customers and others must use the gas station down the street (this is for everyone's protection).

• We encourage you to please tell your friends about the yard sale and ask them to support us. All monies we earn from this will go toward the CCMS compilation CD (after expenses are deducted). We are running a classified ad in the Cherokee Tribune. We will also strategically place yard sale signs nearby. Flyers have been placed particularly in Woodstock and Acworth by us. We have decided to use the money we make to first form our 501 c 3 as we have two people who want to donate sums of money to help us.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for all your help!

• We will have live entertainment during the sale for singer/songwriters and you can sell your CDs and other merch, too. Please contact me if you would like to perform for an hour or so. We will start the entertainment around 11AM. Bob Patterson will provide the PA for us. (Thanks, Bob!)

• Items for the yard sale can be dropped off at 6918 Heritage Place the week of October 20th - late afternoon or evening hours. Please email me at SergeEnt@... to schedule a time to drop off your items. You may donate your items to the CCMS; or you may place them on consignment in the yard sale and donate 10% (or more - whatever you designate) of the selling price to the CCMS. Items can be anything from books to clothes (baby clothes sell very well) to furniture to musical equipment to computer equipment, etc.. Anything that is in good condition. Items that are donated do not need to be tagged
but any consignment items you drop off must be tagged with the selling price and your 3 initials on the same tag with the selling price.

• If you wish to participate in the yard sale, we encourage you to please tell your friends about it and ask them to support us. All monies we earn from this will go toward the CCMS compilation CD (after expenses are deducted). We plan to advertise this event probably in the Cherokee Tribune. We will also strategically place yard sale signs nearby. Any money leftover will go toward pursuing our non-profit status. We need the fee to pay the government and also attorneys' fees to help us create it.

• Rain date: Sunday, October 26th.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for all your help!

Best regards,

Hi, Everyone!

• We had a VERY SUCCESSFUL EVENT at Downtown Kitchen. Special thanks to Zach for allowing us to use the venue. We made a decent amount of money thanks to the admission fee so all the performers will be PAID! Your checks will go in the mail this week. And we will have some leftover money for the CCMS, too, to help pay for the recent merchandise we purchased to promote the Society. THIS IS GREAT NEWS!

• I want to take time to thank our excellent performers - Blake Cloud, Bob Patterson aka Bogey, The Thrillhammers who backed up Bob, Kevin Carlson, and newbies to the Society The Set Connection aka Coltrane Blue Band. Also, thanks to Mark Waterbury for emceeing the event. Everyone sounded GREAT, and I think that the audience loved the music and had a great time, too.

• We also recruited some new members to the Society. Welcome! We are growing and working hard to reach the 100 member mark by the end of the year so please steer all of your music industry, singer/songwriter and musician friends our way. We are all of us doing really well!! And it inspires me to work harder for the organization. I hope it inspires you, too. Everyone can join up on our site at
http://www.cherokeecountymusicsociety.org.

• NEW WEBSTORE! All of our merchandise is now available on the CCMS web site! The store is still new and we plan to put photos of the merch up there, too, but as of last week, the store is up and open. Special pricing for CCMS members is available, too.

• The next event will be our
meeting on September 14 (Sunday) at Woodstock Coffee House at 1428 Towne Lake Parkway from 7-9PM. We have alot to discuss because in October we are going to have a CCMS Garage and Bake Goods Sale Fundraiser in my garage and yard. I have a good sized front yard and side lot and a big garage, too. The tentative date for the event is Saturday, October 11th. So start looking through your homes for things you want to get rid of. You can sell them at the Garage sale and make some money. All we ask is you donate 10% of your total sales to the CCMS. We plan to have singer/songwriters perform throughout the day, too, so we will have live entertainment! Singer/songwriters can sell their CDs and merch, too. We will discuss more about this at the meeting. We want all of our members to be involved with this to help gain more awareness about all the wonderful original talent we have in Cherokee County. This is our revolution and we are going to win!
:-)

We hope to see all of you at the meeting on Sept. 14th. Remember to bring your friends. You don't have to be a member to come to the meetings. We invite everyone to join us at meetings to see what we are all about. The CCMS is a great way to get involved with your community to help make it a better place.

Thanks again for all the support. Remember to join our group at meetup.com (Thanks, Margaret!) so you can communicate with each other. Also, remember our yahoogroup. Feel free to sign up there, too.

See everyone on Sept. 14th!

Greetings, CCMS Supporters!

I hope you are all enjoying the summer months.

Our showcase is less than three weeks away and we would greatly appreciate it if everyone would help us promote it by doing 3 things:

1. Posting the showcase flyer on your web sites and on your myspace profile, events and bulletins
2. Telling everyone you know about the showcase, encouraging them to attend, and asking them to post our flyer
3. Placing the CCMS in your Top Friends on myspace

This helps the Society and the event secure more exposure. It's never too early to start promoting this event so please do this now while it's right in front of you. That way people can adjust their schedules so they can attend the show!

The code for the Downtown Kitchen August 9th showcase flyer is:
<a href="http://s75.photobucket.com/albums/i293/ssserge1/?action=view&current=CCMS8-9Show.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i293/ssserge1/CCMS8-9Show.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

If you would like the flyer jpeg, please email me off list and I will send it to you.

We greatly appreciate your help and support. Please help us make our event a success! We hope to see all of you at the showcase.

Thank you.

Greetings, Everyone!

Our wonderful CCMS member Margaret Swarts has set up a meetup.com site for everyone in the CCMS and also those who are just interested in finding out more about our events. You can easily join at
http://musicians.meetup.com/431/

This way everyone will be able to communicate with each other and it will help promote our events and meetings in the area.

Special thanks to Bob Patterson aka Bogey and Margaret Swarts for helping us in our booth on July 4th. Everything went well. We met alot of new prospects and even acquired a new member to the Society - Joe Rucker. Welcome, Joe! Bob performed in our booth and sold a CD or two. He sounded great as usual! Margaret helped generate interest for the society and stayed with us for a few hours. It was great to have her help. And if I do say so myself, our booth looked by far the best with our banner and all the merch we had for sale - t-shirts, bumper stickers, buttons and CDs! It was long day and rather hot, but we were able to keep cool with a fan. So thanks to all who stopped by the booth and supported us. Special thanks to Mark Waterbury for setting up the tent the night before to make my job easier.

New web site addition - We have a member directory online now. We now have 33 members. We are growing, guys! This is great news. Our goal is to hit 100 by December 31st. Let's do it! Also, we now have t-shirts for sale. I hope that everyone will buy one. I will have them at all events and meetings. They are a discounted price of $10 for members. Buttons and bumper stickers are 50 each for members. All proceeds go to the Society so we can release our compilation CD before the end of the year. Together we can make this happen! Strength in numbers.

Remember to help promote the August 9th event. If you did not receive the flyer code or the jpeg and would like the information, please email me and I will send the info to you. This is going to be so much fun. Downtown Kitchen has some of the best food around so please bring your families and friends for dinner and some of the finest entertainment in Cherokee County.

Thanks for your dedication and support. The CCMS appreciates all of you!

Greetings, All!

We are trying to establish the performance lineup for the August 9th event at Downtown Kitchen. Several of you are trying to make it work and some have bowed out entirely so we have some open slots. If any bands or singer/songwriters that are members of the CCMS are interested in a performance slot, please contact me immediately. We need to get the promotion engine roaring on this, but first I need to finalize the lineup for the event.

So far we have:
Kevin Carlson
Blake Cloud
Spatula

The above three are confirmed.

If you are interested in performing (bands and singer/songwriters) and you are not on the above list, please contact me ASAP. I would like at least one more full band. We are charging a cover charge for the Downtown Kitchen event and plan to split the take (if it's over $30) with the performers.

Thanks.

Greetings, Everyone!

Just a reminder to attend the meeting tomorrow Sunday June 8th at 7PM at Woodstock Coffee House on Towne Lake Parkway.

Also, if you want us to sell CDs for you at the July 4th Freedom Fest, you must bring your CDs to the meeting to give to us. The CCMS would like you to donate at least 10% of the CD sales to the CCMS for the cause! But we are happy to sell CDs for you at this event if you give them to us at the meeting. We will return unsold CDs and the money for your CD sales to you after the event.

Greetings, Everyone:

Just a reminder:

The Cherokee County Music Society has scheduled its next meeting for Sunday, June 8th, 2008 at Woodstock Coffee House, 1428 Towne Lake Parkway, Woodstock, GA 30189 from 7-9PM. Phone 770-928-2901. The meeting is open to all musicians, songwriters, industry professionals, journalists covering the music scene, venues/events/festivals, and any businesses or merchants located in Cherokee County involved directly or indirectly in the music business. Bands who have one or more members located in Cherokee County are also invited to attend. This meeting is the final CCMS meeting for the summer months. Meetings will reconvene in September.

Kevin Carlson, a prominent Cherokee County singer/songwriter, will provide a presentation to meeting attendees. He will speak about promoting shows and how to utilize a variety of tools to encourage friends and fans to attend shows and support musicians. He will also speak about strategies to increase membership and motivational techniques. Most of you already know Kevin. Kevin has always been very successful with encouraging his friends, family and fans to attend any songwriters nights he is a part of and he will share his strategies with us at the meeting.

Along with Kevin's presentation, the June 8th meeting agenda topics include:
- Membership Drive
- July 4th Woodstock Event
- Merchandising
- CCMS Compilation CD
- Downtown Kitchen August 9th Event
- Team Leader Reports
- Networking Session

Please be sure to attend this meeting so we can discuss how everyone can become involved in the various aspects of the Society. We also need your help with recruiting new members. If you would like to attend the meeting, please RSVP to SergeEnt@... or call 678/445-0006.

We invite anyone involved in the music community - directly and indirectly - to get involved and attend a meeting to find out what the CCMS is all about.

Greetings, everyone!

We had a great meeting on May 12th...special thanks to Mark Ericson from Viking Lodge Music for the seminar about the music biz. It was very informative and I hope our attendees learned a thing or two about how to have a successful career.

Congratulations to Len Simonis! He signed up two of his daughters for CCMS membership so he is the one to beat for the Decio's gift certificate. Thanks, Len! The gift certificate will be presented to the person who brings in the most members by
our next meeting which will be at Woodstock Coffee House on Towne Lake Parkway on Sunday, June 8th from 7-9PM. They are going to reserve the front of the coffee house for us right by the window which will be a better area for us. And if it's nice enough, we could even move outside to the tables in front of the coffee house. The meeting on June 8th will be our final meeting for the summer months so it is mandatory that everyone attend as we have much to discuss. The first Fall meeting will be in September most likely the weekend after Labor Day.

Btw, the winner of the buttons and stickers contest was lil' ol' me! Those were actually my suggestions (I am blushing) so I am glad that people liked them. We may have a raffle for the dvd/cds or I may just hold onto them for another contest.

Although we will not have anymore meetings after the June 8th meeting until September, we do have two events we will need your assistance with.
The first event is July 4th at the Woodstock 4th of July Festival which will be held in downtown Woodstock. We have decided to forego the parade and will be sponsoring a booth at the event instead. We plan to feature our singer/songwriters in the booth throughout the day and also we will play our members music on a boombox. We can sell your CDs for you with 10% of the sales going to the CCMS so if you want us to do that, please bring 10 CDs to the meeting on June 8th. We will open one of them to play on the boombox. We will make arrangements to return any unsold CDs to you after the event. If you want to perform at this event, please email me with your name and link to your music. Also, send me your requested time slot. The event is from 10AM-5PM. The length of your set will depend on how many people sign up. We will also need members to help us man the booth throughout the day. If you would like to volunteer to help us with that, please send me an email stating so.

Remember that you must be a member to perform at our events. It's only $25/year - $15 for students -  and you can sign up easily online with paypal at
http://www.cherokeecountymusic.org.

Our 2nd event will be showcasing bands and singer/songwriters on Saturday, August 9th at Downtown Kitchen in Canton. A $5 cover will be charged at the event. We can have the whole night for this one and we plan to have bands with our singer/songwriters performing between the band's sets. We require that all performers stay throughout the night to support your fellow CCMS members and it's important that you bring at least 10-15 people (fans, friends, family) to the event. We will be asking at the door who attendees are there to see. CCMS members enter free as do children 12 and under. We have one band so far that has volunteered to perform (Translucent) so they are already on the schedule. For this particular show, we will have to steer clear of metal music (unless metal bands want to perform an acoustic set).

Bands and singer/songwriters - if you would like to perform, please email me with a link to your music and specify which event you would like to perform at - July 4th or August 9th or both.

Remember that you must be a member of the CCMS to perform at our events.

Throughout the summer months, it is very important that all of you talk about the CCMS to all the people in the music biz you know - musicians, venues, fests, merchants - anyone who you think might be interested. And please try to encourage your friends and acquaintances who either work or live in Cherokee County to sign up for membership. There are downloadable member applications on the CCMS site if you would rather not signup electronically. We need your help. We can't do this alone. This is your organization so let's make it the best that it can be together, as a team. The CCMS benefits YOU! We have our events that provide you with more exposure. We promote our events to the media and always include your name if you are a performer. Members qualify for discounts at numerous merchants throughout Cherokee County which our posted on our web site. Merchants have stickers in their windows stating they are a member of our merchant discount program so look for the stickers, too. We sponsor educational seminars and provide you with news about any opportunities throughout Cherokee County we are informed of or aware of.

Thanks to everyone for your continuing support. Being involved in the CCMS allows us to continue as an organization. Without members, we are unable to forge the path to bring music to the forefront in Cherokee County so please get involved! See you all at the meeting June 8th!

Have a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend!

Greetings, Everyone!

We've completed the CCMS Slogan final tabulation and have decided to use the top two highest scoring slogans for the buttons and stickers. Not many of you voted, but below are the tabulations:

1 - Cherokee County Music - Local & Amazingly Good - 0
2 - I Support Cherokee County Music - 4
3 - Cherokee County Music - Forging Forward - 0
4 - Building the Music Scene in Cherokee County - 3
5 - Where Music Happens - 1
6 - Music That Matters - 0
7 - Music Be Original - 0
8 - Tune Into Local Talent - 1
9 - Sing it! - 0
10 - Music is Life! - 1
11 - Your Music, Your Life - 2
12 - Love That Cherokee Drumbeat -0

The two highest scorers were:
I Support Cherokee County Music (buttons)
and
Building the Music Scene in Cherokee County (stickers).

So I will go ahead and get these printed up. We want to give "Your Music, Your Life" an honorable mention and may at some point use that slogan as well.

We will also be getting t-shirts screenprinted soon. The t-shirts will be white and have our logo and web site URL on them. If any of you have any additional suggestions regarding anything else we should include on the t-shirts, please email your suggestions to me and as long as it is cost effective, we will consider it.

Thanks to everyone who contributed suggestions and also to those who voted.

Get involved! :-)

Mark Ericson, President of Viking Lodge Music will provide a presentation to meeting attendees.
Presentation Synopsis
If you trust you possess the gift of talent, the motivation and tenacity to become a world famous performing artist, there are many important steps toward that ambition.  There are many old myths, there are many swindlers with truthless guarantees looking to take your money, and there are many unrealistic presumptions about the industry. Mark's presentation provides a brief sketch of what measures and actions to take, what to watch for and what to avoid.  Included will be details such as budgetary needs and suggestions for acquiring money. Production, promotion, publicity, image creation, distribution and performing are all important elements that will be touched on. Excerpts from the legendary Robert Metzgar’s “Artist Survival Guide” are provided as reference information.

Greetings, Everyone:

It's very important that everyone attend the showcase at Wild West on April 27th to help make this event a success. This is a huge place - capacity: 1000 - and we need to fill it up...this is an all ages show.

• Performing bands - please promote this show on myspace and on your email lists. Please hand out flyers in your area and email the jpeg and code to your fan base. Are all of you doing that?
Please be there by 5PM for load in, especially if you want a soundcheck. The stage is large enough so drumkits can be set up prior to the show.

Stronghold; Would you please allow us to use your drumkit for the open jam right after your set?

• CCMS members and future members: please let all of your friends and family know about this. A Sunday night is a good family night so your friends can bring their entire families and eat at Wild West. Please let them know about it. If you have a myspace page, please promote it on your myspace pages.

The code for the flyer is:
<a href="http://s75.photobucket.com/albums/i293/ssserge1/?action=view&current=4-27flyer.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i293/ssserge1/4-27flyer.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

We have sent out a press release, been promoting the show on myspace, invited our friends, and have placed fliers all over the county.

We need your help to make this a success. If we get enough people at this show, the CCMS will be able to pick up the bill for the compilation CD, but we will need to fill up Wild West in order to do that and pay the bands, too. We will have our own bouncer at the door for this event.

I hope to see all of you at the show on Sunday, the 27th. We start promptly at 6PM.

Thanks for all your help.

Sandy
