Hi gang...

Well, we had another great week last week playing some of the greatest barberhop and acappella music from the studios of WVRM VillageRadio in Upper Montclair, NJ.  We had an evening of music from some of the artists that are on "Rotation" in the library.

Hey, you know what, we have been perusing the postings from the Harmonet on the various Regional SAI and Division SPEBS Contests, as well as the Int'l Pre-Lim contests in SPEBS and finally the Harmony Sweepstakes and the NCCA Finals, and we have been noticing that we do NOT have music from a lot of the groups that are scoring in the top eschelons of their Region/District/Division/Showcases.  And that makes us sad : (  Soooo, we want to invite all of the wonderful groups who are out there in the acappella world to review our Playlists for the last 4 or 5 weeks at our website: www.harmonize.com/applauseshow    there is a button on the  home page called "Music Submission"...click on there and it will give you all the information you need to get your music played on The "APPLAUSE" Show.  Our audience is a world-wide audience and consisits of singers and fans of barbershop and acappella groups...and they would love to hear your music.

We are still trying to finalize a date with the town for the acappella project featuring talented acappella and barbershop groups.  We hope to be able to report the "final" date to you in the next week.  Thanks for your patience regarding this Fund-Raiser for WVRM/APPLAUSE SHOW.

Hi there guys and gals!

Tonight we have dedicated the evening to "Requests" from our listeners.  The show goes on the air at www.villageradio.com at 6:30pm eastern time.  I will be on "leave" tonight, but TJ will be in the studio and would love to have the show programmed by you, our listeners and fans.
Making a request to the show is as easy as sending an email to:
applause@...   Give us the group and the song...T J will search the library and play the song you want.

We are moving forward on two projects...the Fundraising for the 24/7 365 day "Live"/"Pre-recorded" Format conversion.  More on that on our website.  Also, securing the date for the "Acappella Project" in Montclair which will feature great acappella and barbershop groups from all over the country.

We thank all of the groups who have sent music to us...the Playlist for the 3rd will be posted by tomorrow evening...

Also congratulations to all of the competitors at the New York Regional  Harmony Sweepstakes...Cadence from Toronto, Canada were the winners with an incredibly energetic and audience friendly performance.  Pieces of Eight from New York City were second and Moondance, SAI Reg 15 quartet were third place finishers.  All eight groups, including "in studio" artists, The Fonic, were really great.   Townsend Belisle did another wonderful job in producing this contest.

Have a great evening tonight with T J... I'll be back in the studio next week on the 17th.  By best to all of you

Hi there fans of barbershop and acappella music;

We celebrate TWO Birthdays this week.  April 11th was the date the Barbershop Harmony was founded on the rooftop of the Alvin Hotel in Tulsa Oklahoma.  26 men gathered and started the evening's songfest with a rendition of "Down Mobile".  This week we celebrate the 65th birthday of that historic meeting.

This is also the week that marks the 6th year I have been bringing you the best in acappella and barbershop music on the radio as the host of The "APPLAUSE" Show.  Most of you know I started the "APPLAUSE" Show in April of 1997 at a public radio station in Hunterdon County, N.J., and moved the show to WVRM in January of 2001.  I am proud to be the originator of the show and the continuing host of what has become one of the most popular radio shows throughout the acappella world.  I want to thank all of the artists that have made this radio broadcast possible.  And I want to thank all of our loyal listeners who have stayed with the show  during all of our growth and changes.  We are currently the longest single radio time-slot with a dshow featuring barbershop harmony and accappella music.  WVRM and it's owner, Regional Broadcasting Services are committed to the long term promotion of our kind of music.  So Happy Birthday to the show and your 6 years of support.

My goal as a broadcast promoter is to create a network which will bring you LIVE radio shows from around the world ...every day of the week.  You know, there are almost 80,000 people in the world that call themselves "acappella and barbershop" singers.  The barbershop and acappella communities have organized groups in cities and towns throughout the world, on all time zones, and we believe there is an interest in hearing live shows throughout the week from all around the world.  WVRM is poised to bring this kind of broadcast variety to you.  Imagine, being able to turn on your computer and hear live radio shows and events from around the world.  Imagine emailing, or calling your favorite "personality" in another part of the country or around the world and interracting with that host about their show.  And finally, how great would it be to be able to hear great barbershop and acappella events, like the Harmony Sweepstakes Finals, or maybe the Bolton Landing or the Buckeye Barbershop Festivals, or maybe the annual show of your favorite chorus, or even a performance of your favorite acappella artists during a tour in a part of the country our of your traveling reach........a full Acappella Network there to present great music to you, the audience that appreciates this type of music.

And how surprised would you be if I told you that we could create that kind of network for less than $1.00 per year from all of those 80,000 people who are registered as members of their respective harmony organizations.  But that is the reality... we are working right now to build the financial base to get the Network up and running.  If your group, chapter, or you as an individual would like information on how to help in this effort, please go to our website at:
www.harmonize.com/applauseshow to find out the ways you can support this effort.

We debited a feature on the show this week called "The Great Quartets" which highlights the life and music of great quartets and acappella groups.  Grady Kerr and Strawhat Productions in Dalls have made this feature possible.

Dear friends of Golosa, the University of Chicago Russian Choir,

This list has been quiet for a while, but now I'm writing to announce that
we will be performing a concert of Russian choral music in Joseph Bond
Chapel on the campus of the University of Chicago at 7:30 pm on Wednesday,
May 14.

There is no charge for admission, though there will be a suggested
donation of $5. Our CD "Songs from the Selenga" will also be available.

This year we are proud to present a selection of liturgical pieces by some
of Russia's most illustrious composers, followed in the second half of the
concert by some of our (and your!) favorite Siberian folksongs.

The University of Chicago is located on Chicago's south side. The best
approach from the north is via Lake Shore Drive. Exit at 53rd street or
57th street. The campus is a few blocks west of the lake, bordered by 57th
and 59th streets on the north and south, and by University and Ellis
avenues on the east and west.

For directions to Bond Chapel, please visit:

http://www.uchicago.edu/docs/maps/mainquad/bond.html

If you have any questions about the concert or the choir, please email me.

We hope to see you there!

Hi there netters,

April 24th brought a great mix from the APPLAUSE Show library along with requests from you our audience.  This Thursday we celebrate the start of the Mid Atlantic District Division Contest Cycle with special guests in the studio.  We will welcome the Co-Chairman for the Northern Division Contest, as well as one or two quartets that will be competing in the contest.  We expect to have a real fun time talking "contest" stuff and enjoying the live and recorded performances of the  people involved in the MAD Division contest.  You will have an opportunity to ask the chairman questions about running a contest and to ask the performers about how they feel about the whole contest system.

As you know, we are a listener supported show and the owners of Regional Broadcasting Services would like to change the format of the station from classic rock and roll to acappella and barbershop harmony 24hrs a day/7 days a week/365 days a year.  But in order to do that he needs to have the assurance from our audiences that they will financially support that programming.  Between now and the end of June, we need to raise $5000.00 to implement the change.  To be honest, the support has slowed to a trickle and that is not a good sign.  Our request has been steady... we need individual supporters, group supporters and chapter supporters to make this whole thing happen,  If you, your quartet or your chapter, believes in our show and the possibility of having live broadcasts from all over the world, throughout the week, please consider you financial support today.  Please go to the show's website at:

www.harmonize.com/applauseshow
and you can find out the ways you, your group or your chapter can support the show.  We have a dream that we can develope a network that will present "Live"radio shows from all over the world, filling your days and nights with great music and interesting personalities.  We have the technology to broadcast the major events in the acappella and barbershop worlds over the airwaves for all who are too far away to attend live.  We will be able to simulcast annual shows or performances throughout the world.  But , to do any of this, we need to produce a flow of financial support from those who listen to and support this style of music.

Well, here is the playlist for the 24th.  Check it out to find your favorite groups:

"The "APPLAUSE" Show is presented to you through the financial contributions of barbershop harmony singers and chapters, acappella music fans, and listeners from all over the world.  We are proud to be a part of Regional Broadcasting Services, Village Radio, who has provided you with the longest time slot (4 1/2 hours) of radio broadcasting featuring barbershop and acappella music in the world"

Hi There Netters!

Last week we had a great show with a "live" performance from a guest quartet, some interviews with convention execs and the song favorites of the members of the "Somertones", the Somerset Hills Chapter of the men's Society.  The Somertones had provided the funding for 1 week of broadcasting of The "APPLAUSE" Show, for that donation, they became the "PROGRAM DIRECTOR" for the show for one night.

If your chapter, your acappella group, your quartet, or you as an individual, would like to sponsor one night of programming, the amount of the donation is $175.00.  After we receive your donation, we will forward you a list of the CD's in our library and you will have the opportunity to lay out the 70-75 songs we would play during "YOUR" night of the show.

This is just one way you can support the show.  We need continuing funding throughout the year to stay on the air.  Check out our web-site at :
www.harmonize.com/applauseshow
It will give you all the information on the many ways that you can help us continue bringing you the finest of the music in our library.  And we thank everyone for their support to date.

This past weekend began the round of Division Contests in the Mid Atlantic District.  We were pleased to have Bill VanderHaar and Win Winter from the Somertones who were hosting the convention.  They both gave us some insight as to the behind the scenes activity and committee work that goes into bringing barbershop audiences the annual Division and District contests and conventions.  In addition, HARMONY SQUARE, a quartet from the Northern Division , was in the studio to sing for you.  We thank Tim Snyder, Don Reckenbeil, Art Cole and Bill VanderHaar for bringing us the insight into their contest preparation and for bringing us their music.

We have scheduled live performances for some upcoming shows and invite you to mark your calendars for May 15th, when we will welcome a wonderful High School DooWop group called the Austinaires, who were one of the groups who were considered for the "Best of High School Acappella" groups this year.  Father Ron Hamady and his 5 student members of the group will be in the studio on the 15th.  We are also awaiting the acceptance of our invitation from Moonlighting, a great quartet from the Atlantic Division of the Mid Atlantic District of SPEBSQSA.  We will be announcing the dates as soon as we confirm with the quartet.

CHICAGO A CAPPELLA ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS

Chicago a cappella is seeking to expand the pool of singers who serve on its Alternate Roster. The nine-voice ensemble’s Primary Roster performs the majority of the ensemble’s musical activities. Members of the Alternate Roster may be offered work when a primary-roster singer is not available. Possible work for alternates includes rehearsals and performances on the ensemble’s subscription concert series; recording sessions for demo CDs of choral music; and, more rarely, “run-out,” broadcast, or out-of-town tour performances. The ensemble maintains long-term relationships with its primary and alternate singers through challenging, rewarding musical experiences and competitive compensation.

Audition Date: Wednesday, May 28, 2003.

Audition Times: First audition at 2:00pm; last audition ends at 5:00pm (15-minute time slots)

Location: Green Room (lower level), Symphony Center, 220 S. Michigan Avenue, Chicago

Level of performing experience required: Unusually strong sight-reading skills; significant experience (5+ years) singing both Renaissance and contemporary music, preferably in small ensembles or one-to-a-part; experience and ease with just intonation in early music; ability to sing both full-voiced (with healthy vibrato) and with no vibrato at all, the latter often for extended periods in performance or rehearsal; prowess at holding a vocal line individually with a group of up to 8 others doing the same thing; strong stage presence; adaptability to an unusually wide range of musical styles; a strong ear for picking up new styles that may be unfamiliar; superb language skills (familiarity with IPA recommended); strong solo technique and emotionally compelling delivery.

Audition requirements: Auditionees will be asked to perform two contrasting solos. An accompanist will be provided; singers must provide an accompanist’s copy of both songs. One piece should be from the standard “classical” repertoire (i.e. opera, oratorio, art song); the second piece should show complete contrast, and should NOT be “classical” in nature (i.e. jazz, show tune, pop, spiritual, R&B, folk song). Sight-reading will also be a part of the audition, possibly with another singer on a different voice part. Call-backs will include rehearsing with a larger group for purposes of blend within and among sections.

Call-backs will be held on Tuesday, June 3
rd, from 10:00am-1:00pm, same location.

Chicago a cappella (CAC) is a classical vocal ensemble that moves heart and spirit with fun, innovative concerts. Led by founder Jonathan Miller, the group performs an astonishing range of repertoire with “wit, imagination, flawless intonation, and an easy, idiomatic way with music of every period, from medieval to jazz, swing and gospel” (Chicago Tribune). CAC presents an annual four-program subscription series in Chicago, Oak Park, and Evanston and has been heard in venues from Symphony Center to Mexico. The ensemble has been acclaimed in publications ranging from the Chicago Reader to Fanfare, American Record Guide and Alte Musik Aktuell. The group’s music video was produced by WTTW-Channel 11 for the Illinois Arts Council. Further information on the group’s accomplishments and performing activities is available on its website, www.chicagoacappella.org

Singers of all voice parts (soprano, alto, tenor, baritone, bass) are encouraged to audition. Falsettists are not being sought at this time.

We are thrilled to tell you that tomorrow night, The "APPLAUSE" Show will welcome the Austin Aires to the studio.  This high school doo-wop group hails from the southern part of New Jersey and has been in existance for about 2 years.  Father Ron Hamaday and five students from St. Augustine Prep School make up the "Austin-Aires".   These young men have recorded a promotional CD and they will be performing songs from that CD live in the WVRM Studios.

So tune in tomorrow night (Thursday) from 6:30 -11:00pm and be read to enjoy these wonderful young singers.

We had a great night last week bringing you music that was rotated from the library of the show. We heard from some artists that have been in the "wings" for a while... and from some of the "regular" artists.  We want to thank the folks
that sent in requests...we love to get them!

If you haven't become a financial supporter of the show , we really need your help.  Go to the show's website at www.harmonize.com/applauseshow  and find out how you can support our efforts to bring you the best of the barbershop world each and every week.

Occasionally, I'm cast in the unenviable role of disseminating to the
Chicago/Midwest A Cappella listserv sad news about the passing of a
prominent contributor to our mode of singing. My colleagues in
barbershop harmony have many contacts in the greater a cappella
community, & the following news just came in over the Harmonet
(http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bbshop) . . .

Subject: Re:Chordettes' loss

Hello all:

I just learned, with great sadness, that Jinny Janis, founder and
original tenor of the Chordettes, passed away last night from lung
cancer. Jinny's father was King Cole, once President of SPEBSQSA.
When Jinny left in June 1953 to have a baby, she allowed me to take
her place, and let me have all the perks that went with it including
recording with the Chordettes. I got to sing "Mr. Sandman" instead of
her.

When I retired in 1956, Jinny came back and sang with the gals until
they retired in the early '60's. Jinny loved to sing and especially
woodshed...as the [barbershop] Pioneers group will confirm. A little
anecdote about our friendship: in 1992, when I broke my hip while
playing tennis, and Walter was already handicapped with a stroke from
the year before, we needed help. First Lynn, the lead of the
Chordettes, came to take care of us (for two weeks), and when
Jinny found out about it, she flew from Palm Springs to take over.
She stayed for ten days, and went back home on Christmas Day, and she
wouldn't even let us pay for her airfare! Jinny was a beautiful gal
with a beautiful voice and a dry sense of humor. We will miss her so
much.

Sincerely,
Marjorie Latzko

[A little historical trivia: For those of you who don't know, Walter
Latzko is a legendary barbershop arranger. Remember the Buffalo
Bills, of "The Music Man" fame? Walt wrote many of their best
arrangements. He also wrote some terrific charts for the Suntones,
the quartet that used to appear on Jackie Gleason's TV show in
the '60s. Both quartets were past international champions of
SPEBSQSA.]

And now a follow-up note from Lynn Hauldren, barbershop baritone
extraordinaire, founder of Chicago Natural Gas & Chordiac Arrest,
Empire Carpet pitchman of late-nite TV renown, & one of my best
barbershop buddies . . .

This sad news came today from Kaye, the daughter of Jinny Cole Janis.
Jinny was the tenor of the famous Chordettes, and the daughter of
King Cole, past Society president. More than a professional group
singer, Jinny was a fine barbershopper and an excellent woodshedder
who rarely missed a SPEBSQSA International. She was a true lady and
loved by everyone who knew her.

> Dearest Friends and Family,

> This is Jinny's daughter, Kaye. I wanted to let you know that mom
> passed away early this morning after a very short bout with lung
> cancer. She left this world as she lived it; never depressed, never
> afraid or regretful. She said that she viewed this diagnosis as a
> gift from God: much more preferable than dragging around an oxygen
> tank for another 10 years. She told me repeatedly over the past 25
> days that she'd had a wonderful life, and she was so grateful to
> each of you for helping it be so. She was ready - even eager -
> to go and meet her Lord.

> We have not yet finalized the memorial service plans. If any of you
> would like information when we are done with them please contact me
> at thunt1@d... [sorry it's truncated, thanx to Yahoo--that's how I
> received it] and I will let you know.

> Thank you for playing important parts in Mom's life...both large and
small.

> Love,
> Kaye

Just a personal note . . . one of the highlights of my barbershopping
experience was hearing the original Chordettes get together & sing
all their old pop hits during the 1992 SPEBSQSA International
Convention in New Orleans. They sounded as good as on the records I
grew up with. What a great bunch of gals!

"The "APPLAUSE" Show is presented to you through the financial contributions of barbershop harmony singers and chapters, acappella music fans, and listeners from all over the world.  We are proud to be a part of Regional Broadcasting Services, Village Radio, who has provided you with the longest time slot (4 1/2 hours) of radio broadcasting featuring barbershop and acappella music in the world"
Hi there netters,

You know, T.J and I were remarking last week in the studio that we have the absolutely best part time jobs in the world.  Although we are not paid in dollars for our work, your support, emails and notes to us are the most rewarding "pay" that anyone could ever want.  Last week, as a lot of you know, when we went on the air with the show that would feature the young voices of The Austin Aires, the normal amoaunt of streams to the station were max'd out from about 10 minutes into the show.  We contacted our providerand they opened up the band to accompdate all of you who were listening and the streams (5 times our normal, were max'd out for the entire night.  That means more than 500 of you were listening in and we really thank you for that.
We were thrilled to have "live",  in the studio, the group called the Austin Aires.  They are a high school doo-wop groups from St. Augustine Preparatory School in Richland, NJ.  These four young men, along with there advisor and fellow singer, Father Ron Hamaday, traveled for more than 2 hours to appear on the show.  These young men, 3 of whom are seniors and headed for college, were spontaneous, engaging, and a great pleasure to have with us.  Their music was the music of the great doo-wop groupd of the late 50's through the late 60's.  The Austin Aires were one of the groups that were considered for the "Best Of High School Acappella" CD produced by Varsity Vocals in 2003.

We also had in the studio Delroy Souden, a christian gospel international recording artist who is interested in acappella music and participating in the production of the show.  Del was there to look us over and learn about the production of the APPLAUSE Show.

Well, we are heading into an important period for the show.  We will be loading in the CD playlist for the 24/7 format that will be up and running shortly.  With the number of people that were logging  onto the siteThursday night, we need to move to an unlimited bandwidth.  The provider we have chosen will cost $250.00 per month and this will be an additional cost that has not been planned or budgeted.  We are reaching out to you to see if we can locate a chapter, or group, or individual that would support the show by covering the cost of the new provider  for 6 months.....a total gift of $1500.00 .  The alternative would be to ask 6 groups, each to cover one month's cost for the show.  Once we have the commitment for the provider costs, we will be able to give you 24 hour a day barbershop and acappella music, with the possibility of bringing you "LIVE" broadcasts from all over the world.  So please consider how you can help the show.  Go to our website at www.harmonize.com/applauseshow  and find out how you can send your support to the show.

Now on to the playlist for the 15th... wonderful music from the very best of the barbershop and acappella worlds.

Before we close out this week's playlist, I want to make a correction to last week's list.  We had the pleasure of playing "The Flintstones", a wonderful collection of songs by those crazy cartoon characters, Fred and Wilma Flintstone and Barney and Betty Rubble, creations of the Hanna Barbera studios.  This episode was when Fred won the right to represent the lodge in the "National Barbershop Quartet Contest"....  This marvelous piece of history is part of what we at the APPLAUSE Show affectionately call the "BOOK".  a compilation of more than 45 CD's which are the Southwestern District's Historical Preservation Project.  We thank our webmaster Grady Kerr for this incredible part of barbershop history.

Again, we ask you for your financial support and thank you for considering making us part of your giving to support having barbershop and acappella music on the air with live broadcasts froma all over the world.
We hope to have you with us tomorrow night.

AMERICAN STAR MUSIC & COMEDY SHOWCASES
are not talent competitions. they are performance showcases.
It is exactly the opposite of both the FOX 11 AMERICAN IDOL or the
STAR SEARCH television talent competition.

There are no cattle-call open parking lot auditions or elimination rounds or public voting. There is no big Show final and competition to select only one to win.

This is a 60-day,  2-month long Music Festival featuring new and independent artists performing every imaginable genre for independent and syndicated television presentation beginning in the Fall of 2003.

The people coming to Los Angeles for the primary Show Cast are coming to participate in the process of learning how to be professional performers and entertainers from pros in music, acting, and support services.
They'll learn the real steps in getting auditions, prepared for look-sees and getting representation. How to get into classes, meet instructors and coaches, managers, get an agent or register with Casting companies. How to be an "Extra Actor" in Los Angeles and much, much more .

Each Music and Comedy entrant is going to participate in actual live performance Showcases each week, not a small group staying multiple weeks and being voted off by the mysterious public. Everyone who is accepted and registered will be featured on the TV Show broadcasts and perform live in the weekly Showcase events.

Each week, during July and August, Saturday and Sunday, each entrant will have the opportunity to either perform musically to a live audience and be video taped and interviewed for presentation as a new artist. they will be able to present and sell there CD's or promo their show schedules, etc.

"Are you an amazine singer, dancer, musician or performer of any kind looking for your big break?"

This is becoming the largest individual independent talent presentation in Los Angeles for hundreds of people who will get to perform and be seen and talk with on camera, not just a 2 or 3 minure audition in a city and sent home after hours or days of waiting.

New info is being updted on the site daily. In Chicago, Philly, atlanta, Denver and several other cities,  people will be able to audition and, if invited to be on the Showcase Show, perform there in their regional cities, without travel problems. We will produce their performances there in July and August.
Actors, for on-camera Hosts and Spokesmodels should send in a video tape or email a digital tape of them doing intros (of performers) and exits (to commercials). they will be scheduled for on-camera "cold-Readings" to review their personality, dress and style, attitude and competance with people and the interviewing and presentation process.

Musical performers can audition and perform at the Chicago Showcase (extension) in early July and we'll cut it in with the L.A. footage for the fall.
Other cities will follow in July and through August.

What you need to bring to any live audition:
* a pen
* two recent photos of yourself (one full body and one close-up)
* your state-issued photo ID
* your high school or college yearbooks, if you still have them.
Instructions for Home Video Submissions

Hi gang,

Seems like the year is flying by...all of the preliminary contests for the barbershop societies have almost been completed to choose the performers at the next level.  The 2003 Harmony Sweepstakes and the collegiate ICCA Championships have been completed.  A ton of chapters and acappella groups have had their "Spring" performances, and thousands of college groups have had their final performance of the year.  We head into the summer...yeah, can you believe it SUMMER season which will include many acappella performances along with the annual International Contest and Convention of the men's Barbershop Society in Montreal Canada.

Phil DeBar and I will have the pleasure of being the "lead" broadcasters for the convention's Webcast in Montreal. We hope you will help us in our "historical" research for all of the competitors.  Here is our request:

If you have an anecdotal story or a "little known" fact about any of
the competitors, quartet or chorus, the "big-boys" or the Collegiates,
or just a greeting that you would like us to consider for the webcast,
email me at RMTMUSIC@... giving us your name, your
relationship with the competitor, the competitor's name and the
story.  We hope to accumulate some very interesting information
that will be interesting to our audience during the webcast segments.

Thank you for helping the SPEBSQSA 2003 Webcast to be as successful as it can be.  If you are in Montreal, and you listen to the show, please seek me out and say HELLO!  There is nothing more rewarding to a broadcaster than to meet the folks who are on the other end of the "stream".

Well, here we go....another show featuring the wonderful music of those performers who have sent their music to the show.  Whuch reminds me, if YOUR group has a CD and it hasn't been heard on The "APPLAUSE" Show, it means one ond ONLY one thing......WE DON"T HAVE YOR MUSIC!  Oops, was I getting excited..... <grin>  But I do get frustrated when folks request music from certain groups and those groups have not sent their music to the show.  SOOOO if you know folks in the groups aforementioned <g>  please point them to the APPLAUSE Show website: www.harmonize.com/applauseshow
and they will find all the information they need  under "Music Submission"

And now for the 5/22 Playlist:

BARITENOR needed for the JOHN LINK VOCAL QUINTET

BARITENOR (low E to high A) needed to complete the JOHN LINK VOCAL QUINTET, which sings my wordless vocal arrangements of instrumental compositions by such composers as Beethoven, Chopin, Chick Corea, Miles Davis, Debussy, Bill Evans, Pat Metheny, Ennio Andrea Morricone, Mussorgsky, Satie, Scriabin, and Earl Zindars, as well as my original compositions. I am looking for a talented and committed musician to join us in using our voices as instruments.

To hear recordings of the John Link Vocal Quintet visit the following sites:
http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/JohnLink

I am looking for a baritenor with the ability to sing music from various genres without creating a caricature of each of the genres, with the ability to improvise, and with the desire and ability to make this group a priority.

So that the ensemble will perform at the highest level, rehearsals include Awareness Through Movement lessons (http://www.mp3.com/JohnLinkFeldenkrais) and ensemble singing lessons.

Rehearsals are held Monday evenings on West 26th Street in Manhattan. If you think you have what it takes to be part of this innovative group, call (212)463-7102 to schedule an audition.

The rock group Phish will sing Val Hicks' barbershop arrangement
of "The Star-Spangled Banner" before Game Four of the NBA Finals on
Wednesday, June 11, 2003.

Phish, whose eclectic repertoire fuses rock, jazz, funk, R&B,
bluegrass and just about everything else, has been performing
barbershop in concert for many years, and has previously sung the
Hicks arrangement at various sporting events.

In their earliest years, the Burlington, Vermont-based band were
coached by their landlord, the late John Austin, a noted
barbershopper from the Northeast District and former Society Board
member. Their affinity for the barbershop style and regular use of
barbershop repertoire led to 1999 Quartet Champs FRED covering a song
for the 2001 Phish tribute album, Sharin' in the Groove.

Hi Gang,

We are catching up on our missed playlist for the week of 5/29/03. We apologize to the artists who have given us their music and ask that you check out the songs and groups played.  These artists make it possible for T.J. and I to bring you the greatest 4 1/2 hours each week in radio braodcasting.  If your group has a CD out and we are not playing your music, the ONLY reason is that we do not have the CD.  Go to our website at WWW.HARMONIZE.COM.APPLAUSESHOW  and scroll down to the "Music Submission" tab and you will find out how you can get your music on The "APPLAUSE" Show.  We are always receiving new music and we thank all the artists that make our show possible.
