Hi gang,

I want to thank the following folks who have stepped up to the plate and made donations to our Fund Raising Drive.  This brings us to 23 out of the 175 people or groups we need to meet our goals. We are frustrated that the donations have not been more.  Our deadline is approaching (August 15th) and if we can not reach our goal by that time, we will continue to broadcast as long as we can and then we will have to close down the Network.

Thanks with all our heart to this week's Building Blocks:
    Tom Meier
The Frazer Family, Chuck, Judy, Colin and Blaire (Colin sings with the Rahway Valley Jerseyaires in NJ)
    Lloyd Ellen Thomas
Doug Brown, President of Paradigm Associates, Rahway, NJ
    Christine White, Albuquerque, N.M.

I promised to keep you aware of where THN...The Harmony Network was in their current drive to raise $8500.00 to meet the challenge of broadcasting 24 hours a day/7 days a week, to purchase some needed equipment and to improve the quality of the broadcasts to you, our listening audience.  If you believe in what we are doing, we need to ask you to make your donations now.

We need a total of 175 people to make a donation of $50.00 or more during this drive.  We have written to the members of 11 discussion groups (you have been included) that are oriented to acappella music.  We have appealed to more than 450 groups that have had their music featured on our broadcasts (Are you or your group among them). And we have sent personal emails to the leaders of The Barbershop Harmony Society and the Regional Management Teams of the Sweet Adelines International(Are you one of those people?) More than  4500 people have read this appeal, and we thank the 23 who have responded.

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT NOW...WON'T YOU BECOME ONE OF THE "175" THAT WILL ALLOW US TO MEET OUR GOALS AND BECOME YOUR SOURCE FOR LIVE ACAPPELLA RADIO SHOWS?

Please send your Tax Deductible Gift to THN...The Harmony Network, 41 Watchung Plaza #222, Montclair, NJ 07042; or go to www.paypal.com and send your gift to the2004thn@aol.com as the sending address.

Having seen all of these groups live, I highly recommend going to
see this show. It's rare that the Upper Midwest gets a show like
this, so don't miss your chance to see these great groups if you're

With all due respect, Upper Midwest seems to be a relative term.

Don't suppose you'd all like to swing by the Twin Cities after the show for an encore?

Hi Gang,

Tonight we will be a continuation of our show last week when we explored some of the great music contained in the famous "Book" as the THN staff affectionately calls it.  This is the historical compilation of music from the Historical Project of the Southwestern District of the Barbershop Harmony Society.  This compilation completed in 2003 has some music that has never been released before and we assure you all that you will enjoy the music from this collection.

Everyone who listens in can thank Grady Kerr from Dallas who completed this project for the District in 2003 and who shared a copy of the project with THN...The Harmony Network.  So join us tonight at www.villageradio.com from 7PM to 11PM Eastern time for this week's edition of The "APPLAUSE" Show.

THN...The Harmony Network is a listener supported venture.  We are in the middle of a fund drive where we need to raise $8500.00 to meet the financial and operational goals of the Network.  We are looking for 175 people to donate $50.00 or more and to date, we have received donations from 24 people and have reached a total of $4200.00.  We have been able to pay our past due bills and pay part of the fee we owe to Regional Broadcasting Corporation, our landlord.  If we are unsuccessful in raising the remaining $4000.00, we will broadcast our shows until the money runs out and then have to shut the Network down.

Won't you take time today and make a donation to THN...The Harmony Network.  All donations are tax deductible because the Network is a 501C3 organization.  We believe there are at least 175 people, groups, acappella ensembles, choruses, chapters, districts, regions or barbershop execeutives who can see the value in what we are doing.  Won't you join those who have already donated and help THN move ahead to a 24/7 broadcast?

You can donate through Paypal at www.paypal.com and use the address of the2004thn@aol as the address to which you are sending the donation, or you can mail your check or money order to :THN...The Harmony Network, 41 Watchung Plaza #222, Montclair, NJ 07042.  All gifts are gratefully appreciated and acknowledged.

Thanks for tuning in.  Our TOLL-FREE Phone Number is 1-877-846-7664 and you can join the chatroom at www.starchat.net and then accessing the BBSHOP chat room.

In Harmony,

Rich Taylor, Host of The "APPLAUSE" Show

hello, my name is alex...i've been the music director for Underground

time i still haven't found what i'm looking for (go U2)...anyways..

i have a small syndicate of voices that i'm ready to pool together for
a start-up acappella group but as always...tenors are hard to find,
wouldn't mind finding a low alto either, or a vocal percussionist
perhaps...

you know what?..i don't care what voice part you are or if you don't
have experience or don't even know what acappella is...i want you to
come talk to me and help me figure out how you can help this thing get
started...passionate musicians with a business flair are doubly good...

Oh what a night! AcappellaFest 2007 was a hit -- thanks to all of the
support we received from fans around Chicagoland and a few that
trekked across the country. The show also would not have been possible
without the teamwork of the entire production staff. elmoTHUMM, Almost
Recess, Home Free and Vocal Chaos truly put on a wonderful show that
kept the audience smiling, clapping and asking for more. The song
selection was oustanding, a few vocal percussionists showcased their
talents and several prizes were given away. Scott Leonard was a guest
who exemplified grace and kindness. From his vocal acrobatics on Stand

Subject: 2008 Chicago Harmony Sweepstakes - get those entries ready!
chicago_voic...
Send Email Send Email

Greetings!

The 2008 Chicago Harmony Sweepstakes is coming up in March, and we're starting to gather information about eligible a cappella groups.  This e-mail is going out to as many Midwest groups as we know of, and we're trying to fill in the gaps in our "knowledge base".  Some groups may have changed their contact information - please forward this e-mail to your main contact, and let us know their name and e-mail address.  Some groups may have changed e-mail addresses, or added a new website (or MySpace page) - we'd like to know about that.  And a few groups, sadly, may no longer be together - in that case, let us know if you'd like us to remove your e-mail address from our list.

Note:  the Sweeps will now accept groups up to EIGHT members!  In years past, we could only accept up to 7, which eliminated a lot of mixed groups (SSAATTBB).  With the new higher limit, I'm hoping we'll see all sorts of new groups come out of the woodwork!

A more official entry form will be following this e-mail, but here's a few things you should know in the meantime:

  • The show is Saturday, March 15th, 2008 at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie, IL, at 7:30 pm.
  • The deadline for receiving entries is January 4th, 2008.
  • All groups will need to submit an audition recording with at least two songs. (CDs or MP3s strongly preferred)
  • Groups must have at least three and no more than EIGHT members.
About 8 or 9 groups will be selected from the entries to perform in the March regional contest.  If your entry is selected, we will need a picture of your group, and an entry fee of $10 per person per group.

If you've entered the Sweeps before and your information hasn't changed, you're all set.  But if you're new to the Sweeps, or if you'd like to update your group contact information in any way, please reply to this e-mail.  We try to do as much via e-mail as possible (thus the importance of digital recordings).  And spread the word to any other a cappella groups you know - the more the merrier!

    HEY, CHICAGO VOCAL MUSIC FANS!!!!

Last week I posted about The Bobs' upcoming shows at the Lakeshore Theater 10/25 and 10/26.

Since then, we've been informed that folks from Montreal's prestigious International Comedy Festival, JUST FOR LAUGHS  will be attending the Chicago show on Thursday, 10/25 to see the band.

The new tunes (about 80% of the show) are AMAZING and if you haven't heard Dan Bob Schumacher, ya need to!!!
