First off, HAPPY NEW YEAR. Greg Vaden from elmoTHUMM here. Still
looking for Midwest groups wanting to get involved with AcappellaFest
held in Schaumburg, IL.

We are still hoping to expand the event into multiple shows with
multiple performers if we can find the right groups for the job (I use
"job" figuratively(?) here).

Let us know what's up and send us your thoughts and ideas. GV, eT

Oh what a night! AcappellaFest 2007 was a hit -- thanks to all of the
support we received from fans around Chicagoland and a few that
trekked across the country. The show also would not have been possible
without the teamwork of the entire production staff. elmoTHUMM, Almost
Recess, Home Free and Vocal Chaos truly put on a wonderful show that
kept the audience smiling, clapping and asking for more. The song
selection was oustanding, a few vocal percussionists showcased their
talents and several prizes were given away. Scott Leonard was a guest
who exemplified grace and kindness. From his vocal acrobatics on Stand
By Me to his face time with fans, Scott made AcappellaFest 2007 a
night to remember.

Subject: Seeking Singers for Quartet!
spgvp
Send Email Send Email

Hello a cappella fans!

I'm looking to form an a cappella quartet!  All voice-types welcome!  Here's the info!

About the group:

My hope is to form a professional-grade a cappella quartet that performs a wide variety of music!  Doo Wop, Motown, jazz, contemporary, maybe even originals if we write any!  I would like to get it up and running relatively quickly and actively start seeking paid gigs.  I already have leads on some gigs that are well-paid and possibly long-term, though may require a bit of travel!

About the singers:

First, must be able to hold their own easily against other voices.  Must also be able to blend and solo well.  I'm not looking for fantastic sight-readers or someone who can pick out an augmented major seventh when they hear it.  But I would like you to be able to just learn quickly and be dedicated.  Nothing too hard, just have the basic skills to sing a cappella music!  Easy, right?  Flexible schedules would be helpful to get things moving as far as rehearsing and perfoming.

About me:

I'm a bass/baritone.  i have quite a bit of a cappella experience.  I've been performing semi-professionally and professionally for about 4 years now.  It's kind of a goal of mine to try and officially make a living doing this.  I'm also a vocal percussionist.  I've hired myself out to groups and events in the area as a VP and also teach vocal percussion lessons.

Let's see...what else?  Well, if you want to know more, send me and e-mail at spgvp@... !

Take care!

perform in their next season's shows.

As a special consideration to a cappella groups there is a way that
groups can schedule a private audition time without having to go thru
the usual "cattle call".

Hey all,

Just a quick heads-up that there are still good seats available for next week's Nylons show at the Arcada Theater in downtown St. Charles.  I've heard rumors of time off and retirements, so catch them now while you still can.  I was at last December's show in Elgin and it might possibly be the best they've sounded in the 16 years I've been going to see them.  If you haven't checked out their new bass, Tyrone Gabriel, now's your chance; this guy is fantastic.

Here's the link!

Be well,

Hello All - Greg from elmoTHUMM here. I made the trip to Chicago
this weekend and thought I'd fill everyone in on a few things.

1) Western Michigan University held their invitational this
weekend. For those into vocal jazz, it was amazing! Steve Zegree
will again be hosting a seminar later in the year. If you're a jazz-
head - GO. He and his program (Gold Company)are the best in the
country.

2) Congrats to 5One for winning Sweeps this weekend. Andrew was
kind enough to let me sit in on sound checks. Nice job everyone.

3) I was asked to participate as a judge at this years ICCA Midwest
Semi-finals held at Northwestern THIS WEEKEND. (Notice a theme here,
everything happened this weekend) Northwestern's own Purple Haze won
that event. They're off to New York for Nationals. Good luck to
them. I was disappointed our 3 Michigan representitives didn't place
but better luck next year.

4) AcappellaFest has been awarded a grant. Jeff and I are very
pleased and want to thank everyone for their continued support as we
work to get AcappellaFest 08 up and running. Announcements will be
made shortly.

Thanks:

Hey Gang,

An origional pewter grouping of a Barbershop Quartet, "The Un-named Four" by Michael Ricker, is now on EBAY.  The Item number: 260227269507.  The link to the item is the following:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260227269507

This is an original one of a kind commissioned piece done in 1991 by the sculptor from his "PARK CITY - AMERICANA REMEMBERED" series.  After the artist did the original for me in 1991, two years later, the Society offered a similar grouping for saly through the Harmonizer.  The "copies" were not the full size figures in this piece, and the base of Walnut was designed for this piece by the sculptor.

This piece would be an exciting table piece for any living room, den or office.

Yours in Harmony,

Rich Taylor, former Host of The APPLAUSE Show
President of THN...The Harmony Network

Hi everybody -

I hope you're all doing well. My name is Drew Dahan. I'm a former member of
the
Chicagoland groups Vocal Chaos and An Octave Above, and I just finished my
Masters
Degree in jazz pedagogy at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL. As some
of you
may know, the jazz voice program at UM is among the finest in the country.

This year, the group (which just co-won a DownBeat award for best jazz vocal
ensemble
in the country) is taking a trip to Chicago to do some recruiting at a few high
schools in
the area. There's one public concert that we're doing that we wanted to make
you aware
of.

Next Thursday night, May 15th, Jazz Vocal Ensemble 1 (JV1) will be performing at
Niles
North High School in Skokie, IL. The concert is at 7:30 pm, and admission will
be $3.00,
which will go to a charity sponsored by Niles North HS. The concert will also
feature Niles
North's top vocal jazz ensemble, "Take One," opening for the group.

I know this isn't quite a cappella, but some of the stuff we do is a cappella,
and a good
chunk of our tunes are more contemporary, and something I think a lot of you
would
enjoy. Again, here's the information on the performance. Also, if any of you
are looking
into MIami's music school, or have kids/friends/relatives that are doing so,
we'll have
some brochures and stuff about the programs at UMiami.

Who: University of Miami JV1 (feat. Niles North HS "Take One")

We are looking for diversity.  All ages, races, and religions welcome.  Gospel singing experience not required, but a minimal singing proficiency is expected.   A positive spirit is a must.

We are Chicago's One Accord, a successful gospel music ensemble directed by Walter Cunningham who is also the director of the Dartmouth College Gospel Choir. We call the music we sing "Gospel Fusion!"  Music of the traditional black gospel experience uniquely infused with borrowings from other music genre ... the high energy of pop and rock, the heart of jazz, the soul of rhythm and blues, and the refinement of a contemporary choral ensemble.  Our multiracial membership is extremely diverse with members coming from many different religious backgrounds and beliefs.  Though much of our music is Christian based, we do not focus on doctrine, but instead choose to focus on our commonalities and the universal messages of love, faith and inspiration.

Currently, the group consists of about 18 members and due to the increasing number of requests for our performances locally as well as nationally and internationally, we are hoping to double the size.  Accordingly, we are hosting an open rehearsal next Sunday, June 15th from 3pm to 6pm at Unity in Chicago located at 1925 W. Thome, Chicago, IL (one block south of Devon Ave. and 1 block west of Ridge Road in the Edgewater/Rodgers Park neighborhood).

If you interested in joining a talented ensemble on the cutting edge of the gospel music genre this is an excellent opportunity to check us out.  Please feel free to email or call me for additional information and/or to RSVP so we know how many people to plan on for our rehearsal.  You can also check out our website: http://waltcunningham.net

Also, please do not hesitate to contact me if for some reason you are not able to attend this rehearsal, but are still interested in joining.

Hello all!

I am looking for all voice parts to build a pop/jazz/rock a cappella
group here in the city. To begin this adventure, I need to find people
are not only interested in helping me create the group, but also help
with running it. As for myself, I am an experienced Bari/Tenor,
arranger, composer and director. I can read and write music and have
comparable piano skills. I am highly motivated to arrange/direct an a
cappella group here in Chicago, I just need the voices and a little
help. That's where you come in!

Past a cappella experience, piano skills, arranging skills,
sightreading skills, basketball skills are all helpful but not necessary!

Please pass this message along to anyone living in or relocating to
Chicago who would be a good fit for us!

Todah rabah,
Loren
----
Shircago, Chicago's premier Jewish a cappella ensemble, is seeking a
talented female singer to replace a long-time departing member.

Shircago has been around for 12 years. We have performed throughout
Chicagoland and beyond, including the East Coast. We have recorded a
studio album and have been selected to appear on the first-ever Best
of Jewish A Cappella (BOJAC) album. We have reached the semifinals of
the National Harmony Sweepstakes twice.

The ideal auditionee should have a good solo voice, be comfortable
performing, be at least somewhat familiar with Jewish music, and be at
least somewhat familiar with a cappella music.

If you'd like to sing new and traditional Jewish music, have some fun,
and make a few bucks doing it, drop us a line!

For more information, check out our website at
http://www.shircago.com/, reply to this message, or call us at
773-665-1234.
